Sensing, Digital, and Management Strategies to Enhance the Built Environment Resilience in Cities

    No full text
Supporting the resilience of living environments is pivotal in a rapidly changing world, which has to co-exist with more and more frequent disruptive events. In order to cope with diverse hazards (e.g., earthquakes, landslides, blackouts, etc.), different technologies can contribute to develop a multidomain monitoring platform with a holistic perspective. Interoperability and modularity are fundamental to be able to regularly update and improve this tool according to the evolving needs of the whole ecosystem, considering living environments as well as citizens. This paper summarizes the innovative solutions developed by Universià Politecnica delle Marche within the framework of the reCITY project, including sensing, digital, and urban planning technologies, hence providing a versatile smart monitoring platform able to support emergency management and decision-making processes

Prigionieri del labirinto? Amore, affettività e conferimento di senso

    No full text

Is COVID-19 infection a risk factor for death in patients presenting acute cholecystitis? The ChoCO-W global study post-hoc analysis.

    No full text
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic witnessed a surge in acute cholecystitis (AC) cases, with potential correlations to SARS-CoV-2 infection. The ChoCO-W global prospective study reported a higher incidence of gangrenous cholecystitis and adverse outcomes in COVID-19 patients compared with non-COVID patients. The ChoCO-W2 study aims to investigate factors associated with mortality among patients admitted with AC during the COVID-19 pandemic

Fine-Tuning a Pre-Trained Wav2Vec2 Model for Automatic Speech Recognition: Experiments with de zahrar sproche

    No full text
We present the results of an Automatic Speech Recognition system developed to support linguistic documentation efforts. The test case is the zahrar sproche language, a Southern Bavarian variety spoken in the language island of Sauris/Zahre in Italy. We collected a dataset of 9,000 words and approximately 80 minutes of speech. The goal is to reduce the transcription workload of field linguists. The method used is a deep learning approach based on the language-specific tuning of a generic pre-trained representation model, XLS-R. The transcription quality of the experiments on the collected dataset is promising. We test the model's performance on some fieldwork historical recordings, report the results, and evaluate them qualitatively. Finally, we indicate possibilities for improvement in this challenging task

Surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRF): the WSES and CWIS position paper

    No full text
Background: Rib fractures are one of the most common traumatic injuries and may result in significant morbidity and mortality. Despite growing evidence, technological advances and increasing acceptance, surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRF) remains not uniformly considered in trauma centers. Indications, contraindications, appropriate timing, surgical approaches and utilized implants are part of an ongoing debate. The present position paper, which is endorsed by the World Society of Emergency Surgery (WSES), and supported by the Chest Wall Injury Society, aims to provide a review of the literature investigating the use of SSRF in rib fracture management to develop graded position statements, providing an updated guide and reference for SSRF. Methods: This position paper was developed according to the WSES methodology. A steering committee performed the literature review and drafted the position paper. An international panel of experts then critically revised the manuscript and discussed it in detail, to develop a consensus on the position statements. Results: A total of 287 studies (systematic reviews, randomized clinical trial, prospective and retrospective comparative studies, case series, original articles) have been selected from an initial pool of 9928 studies. Thirty-nine graded position statements were put forward to address eight crucial aspects of SSRF: surgical indications, contraindications, optimal timing of surgery, preoperative imaging evaluation, rib fracture sites for surgical fixation, management of concurrent thoracic injuries, surgical approach, stabilization methods and material selection. Conclusion: This consensus document addresses the key focus questions on surgical treatment of rib fractures. The expert recommendations clarify current evidences on SSRF indications, timing, operative planning, approaches and techniques, with the aim to guide clinicians in optimizing the management of rib fractures, to improve patient outcomes and direct future research
