Fundamentals of a Search and Matching Model (Chapter 1)
Search and matching models originate in the labour market. Hence, it is crucial to start from the labour market to understand search and matching models correctly. Furthermore, the book focuses on the interplay between housing and labour market outcomes. Therefore, the meaning of better labour market outcomes need to be correctly understood
The Otoacoustic Emissions in the Universal Neonatal Hearing Screening: A Scoping Review Update on the African Data (2004 to 2024)
Background: The reported data on African universal neonatal hearing screening (UNHS) practices tend to be quite scarce, despite the developments in hearing screening the last two decades. The objective of this systematic review was (a) to identify the most recent (in a 20-year span) literature information about NHS/UNHS programs in Africa and (b) to provide data on the procedures used to assess the population, the intervention policies, and on the estimated prevalence of congenital hearing loss with an emphasis on bilateral hearing loss cases. Methods: Queries were conducted via the PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases for the time window of 2004–2024. The mesh terms used were “OAE”, “universal neonatal hearing screening”, “congenital hearing loss”, “well babies”, and “Africa”. Only research articles and review papers were considered as good candidates. The standard English language filter was not used, to identify information from non-English-speaking scientific communities and groups. Results: Data from 15 papers were considered, reflecting the neonatal hearing practices of nine African states. No country-wide NHS programs were reported. The various screening realities are implemented within big urban centers, leaving the residents of rural areas unassisted. For the latter, proposals based on tele-medicine protocols have been suggested. The data on HL prevalence are also incomplete, but the available data refer to rates from 3 to 360 subjects per 1000. These data cannot be taken at face value but within the small sample size context in which they were acquired. Regarding the causes of HL, very few data have been reported; consanguinity is the most attributed factor, at least in the Sub-Saharan African states. For the majority of the programs, no data were reported on hearing loss prevalence/incidence or on any strategies to restore hearing. Conclusions: The information on the African neonatal hearing screening are quite scarce, and it is an urgent need to convince audiologists from the African localized programs to publish their hearing screening dat
Unveiling user intentions: an integrated analysis of hedonic motivation and service quality in e-grocery technology acceptance
Purpose – This study aims to extend the Technology Acceptance Model 2 (TAM2) by incorporating hedonic
motivation and service quality and exploring their collective impact on users’ continuance intention in the
context of e-grocery. The purpose is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing
e-grocery technology acceptance.
Design/methodology/approach – The empirical analysis follows a cross-sectional design, using data collected
in Italy from January to March 2023. The survey, utilizing the convenience sampling method, focuses on users
who have made online grocery purchases in the previous six months. Data analysis employs partial least squares
structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM), which enables causal-predictive model assessment.
Findings – The research reveals significant relationships among hedonic motivation, service quality, perceived
ease of use, perceived usefulness and continuance intention. Hedonic motivation positively impacts perceived
usefulness but not perceived ease of use. Service quality significantly influences both perceived ease of use and
perceived usefulness. Additionally, perceived ease of use positively influences perceived usefulness and
continuance intention, while perceived usefulness significantly impacts continuance intention.
Research limitations/implications – The cross-sectional design could limit the study’s ability to capture the
evolution of users’ continuance intention over time. Cultural influences on users’ perceptions could be explored
further to develop context-specific strategies.
Practical implications – The findings emphasize the importance of hedonic motivation, service quality, ease of
use and perceived usefulness in shaping users’ intentions to continue using online grocery services. Practitioners
are encouraged to focus on enhancing hedonic elements for increased user loyalty and invest in service quality,
particularly in customer care and checkout processes, to improve user perception and ease of use.
Originality/value – This study contributes to the existing literature by integrating hedonic motivation and
service quality into TAM2, offering a novel perspective on their combined impact on technology acceptance.
The inclusion of these factors enhances the model’s applicability in understanding user behaviour in the
adoption of technology, specifically in the e-grocery sector
Information Entropy in Chimera States of Human Dynamics
In human dynamics, functioning relies on intricate coordination patterns. Networks
of synchronized oscillators in various biological and semiotic fields shape these
dynamics. We have observed stability, instability, and transitions at multiple levels, indicating
that coordination happens on all scales. We have examined coordination models
for simplified and complex dynamics. In empirical research, we can frequently observe
chimera states as the coexistence of coherence and incoherence, even in homogeneous networks.
They are more evident in the heterogenous networks’ standard in human dynamics,
where oscillators and nodes are mixed as different types. This paper proposes a simplified
and overarching model for mixed chimeras. We discuss the information dynamics
in these types of networks and their pattern transitions
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT, INCLUSION AND ATTENTION FOR DIVERSITY: PARTICIPANTS’ REFLECTIONS AT THE IRIDI START COURSE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TURIN
Universities are increasingly responsible for promoting equitable access and learning opportunities, accommodating diverse backgrounds, and meeting students’ needs. Teaching methods and assessments should be inclusive, sensitive to differences in culture, gender, age, and other factors, in order to ensure the success of all students. It is essential to review and monitor assessment processes to reduce biases and prevent discrimination based on stereotypes. To support this, Faculty Development initiatives can enhance student-centered and inclusive teaching practices.
Such training fosters intercultural competence and inclusion awareness,
positively impacting teachers’ attitudes and sensitivity to students’ needs. This inclusive approach not only helps vulnerable students express their needs but also improves overall transparency and accessibility in the classroom. This paper examines the IRIDI program at the University of Turin, specifically the START course for researchers, which includes a module on inclusivity. Reflections from participants were analysed through the text analysis software NVivo 11 in order to identify faculty attitudes and challenges, thus guiding future strategies to support inclusive teaching practices
Reducing Stigma, Enhancing Psychological Well-Being and Identity in Multiple Sclerosis: A Narrative Review of Current Practices and Future Directions
