L’educazione riflessiva e l’integralità della formazione: una prospettiva per lo sviluppo delle competenze professionali in sanità
L’articolo affronta il tema della formazione dei medici specialisti, evidenziando la necessità di integrare competenze tecnico-scientifiche con capacità etiche e relazionali. In particolare, il progetto PIONEERS ECOS, sviluppato attraverso una collaborazione tra Italia e Pakistan, si propone di mettere a confronto i diversi approcci formativi nel campo della Radioterapia, al fine di perfezionare il percorso di specializzazione medica. Tale progetto, infatti, incentiva lo scambio pedagogico di esperienze e metodologie mediante l’istituzione di un Tumor Board intercontinentale, favorendo così l’acquisizione di competenze non solo tecniche, ma anche relazionali e interpersonali. Inoltre, viene sottolineata l’importanza di una formazione continua e riflessiva, finalizzata allo sviluppo di una consapevolezza critica riguardo alle implicazioni etiche e sociali delle innovazioni scientifiche nel contesto medico. Al contempo, la narrazione biografica rappresenta uno strumento privilegiato per esplorare l’identità professionale e promuovere pedagogicamente una crescita personale, favorendo una pratica medica più consapevole e orientata alla cura integrale del paziente. Infine, tale processo riflessivo e relazionale si rivela imprescindibile per costruire una prassi medica più umanizzata e responsabile

Automatic Generation of Job Safety Reports with Explainable RAG-Based LLMs
Monitoring workplace activities is critical for ensuring job safety. Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen-AI) and Human-centered Artificial Intelligence (Hum-AI) can suggest new trustworthy solutions to automate these monitoring procedures, ensuring improved work accident prevention. In this paper, we present a novel framework that combines Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) with explainable LLMs to automatically generate job safety reports from unstructured accident descriptions. Our method integrates embeddings like BERT and SciBERT and explainable AI exploiting Layer-Wise Relevance Propagation (LRP) to highlight root causes of accidents within the generated reports. We evaluate multiple LLMs, including LLaMA 3.1, Mixtral-8x7B, and DeepSeek v2, on the Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS) dataset. Results show that our best configuration (Mixtral-8x7B with SciBERT) achieves F1-scores up to 0.909 and GLEU and METEOR scores above 0.3 and 0.2. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness and interpretability of the proposed system in real-world job safety contexts and how the proposed approach could assist safety experts or inspectors more explicitly
Reduction of oxytocin plasma levels in borderline personality disorder and normalization induced by psychotherapies
Background: Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a severe mental disorder characterized by emotional dysregulation, impulsive behaviors, and difficulties in interpersonal relationships. Despite the poor understanding of the underlying biological processes, the oxytocin (OXT) system may be involved in and mediate some of BPD's symptomatic and behavioral aspects. To clarify OXT's role in BPD, we assessed its plasma levels and modulations induced by psychotherapies in patients. Methods: Fifty BPD patients and 28 healthy controls (HC) participated in the study; patients were randomly assigned to two psychotherapeutic treatments: metacognitive interpersonal therapy and structured clinical management. Clinical and psychometric measures were assessed, and plasma was collected at baseline (T0) and in patients after 6 (T6) and 12 (T12) months of treatment. OXT was quantified by a radioimmunoassay technique. Results: BPD patients showed lower plasma OXT at T0 than HC (p = 0.002), and a correlation was observed (r = -0.36, p = 0.017) between low OXT concentrations and high Attachment Style Questionnaire - Italian Version-Preoccupation with Relationships subscale scores. OXT changed significantly over time in patients (p = 0.049) with an increase particularly evident from baseline to T6 (p = 0.022), without significant difference between treatment groups. OXT changes (T0 - T12) inversely correlated with symptom improvement as changes in the Zanarini Rating Scale for borderline personality disorder (r = 0.387, p = 0.006) and the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (r = 0.387, p = 0.005) scores during treatment. Conclusions: OXT alteration in BPD patients and the regularizing effect of long-term psychotherapies support an involvement of the OXT system in the disease and in treatment impact. More research is needed to fully understand the underlying causal mechanisms linking OXT with pathogenesis and psychotherapy outcomes
Exploring Acclimation Time in Test-Room Environments via Physiological Indicators: Evolving Human-Centric Personalized Comfort Measurement Procedures
Comfort research in indoor environments often adopts climate chamber to ensure precision control and measurements’ accuracy while tracking human preferences. A critical step to guarantee that subjects’ answers reflect actual exposure conditions, unaffected prior experiences, is to dedicate an “acclimation time”. However, there is still debate within the scientific community regarding its optimum duration and calculation methods. This study proposes a novel approach to define acclimation time for comfort tests based on the analysis of physiological signals. Physiological and environmental signals from three different experimental campaigns, conducted in the Next.Room, were gathered in different thermal conditions to establish via data analysis procedures when subjects start stabilizing signals for Heart Rate (HR), Skin Temperature (ST) and tonic Electrodermal Activity (EDAt). Subjects were exposed to conditions from 20–30 °C, with durations of 60–110 min. Linear interpolations of data subgroups determined acclimation time as the point when the angular coefficient's standard deviation was below the group average for at least 3 min. A 25 min general threshold was defined to assure the acclimation of at least 75 % of the subjects, balancing differences between people and the prevention of subjects’ fatigue/boredom. A 40-minute-long acclimation period can be used when aiming at more accuracy in non-ideal conditions (close to or far from outdoor conditions). Real-time personalized acclimation methods could enhance experimental designs but may extend durations impractically. Physiological signals play an important role in defining the stability of each subjects’ conditions in different environmental setups, supporting a reliable experimental design process

Empowering school-community synergy through reading promotion: Focus on the experience of the library “Biblioteca di Villa
School-Community partnership is one of the strategic dimensions through which it's possible to qualify the educational processes and pursue one of the goals of the Agenda2030 for Sustainable Development, namely to promote an education that is qualified, inclusive and accessible for everyone, also through the involvement of local institutions and organizations.
In today’s complex era, it's crucial to strengthen the work of formal education contexts with initiatives promoted in the territory, which involve children, teenagers and families in the accomplishments of meaningful activities for the development of core competencies for active citizenship.
In the Italian educational landscape, the importance of extracurricular activities is also confirmed by the increasing focus on the so-called horizontal curriculum, aimed at integrating the educational offer connected to teaching-learning activities within the schools, with initiatives involving other institutions, such as cultural associations, libraries or museums.
One of the areas in which School-Community Synergy appears to be particularly active is reading promotion. Especially in relation to early childhood, this dimension seems to enable an active dialogue between families and educational institutions. Paths designed in this sense can therefore empower the relationship among formal, non-formal, and informal education actors, creating opportunities for personal, cultural, and social development.
The paper presents the main results of an exploratory study conducted in the context of the educational and cultural initiatives promoted by the Library of Villa San Sebastiano (Biblioteca di Villa), a small Italian village. The experience of this Library is particularly significant in the context of School-Community Synergy, as it has been actively collaborating with a pedagogist and nursery director to design reading promotion paths since 2019. These paths are aimed at promoting greater family awareness of the importance of reading from an early age; they are also meant to organize extra school initiatives to involve children and young people in activities to promote both their engagement in reading and their motivation to read.
The main objective of the study was to deepen the project experience of the Villa Library in order to identify organizational and methodological strategies useful for design reading promotion initiatives outside formal education environments. To do this, the research focused on the initiatives planned over the years, on their organizational structure and on the activities proposed, including readings in public spaces, and individual and peer tutoring workshops. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and questionnaires, administered to the library’s director and staff, the pedagogical supervisor, and participating families.
The main outcomes confirm that local organizations can be a useful resource for enriching learning and cultural promotion opportunities in non-formal and informal education contexts, especially if they design and manage activities that are constant and consistent over time. The families involved appreciated the educational initiatives and the way they have been enriched over the years. Furthermore, the active and enthusiastic participation of children made it clear that the educational-didactic practices investigated are effective. It is possible to think of future exploitation and adaptation of such practices in further contexts
