The anti-viral activity of stem cells: a rational explenation for their use in clinical application
Intra-abdominal infections survival guide: a position statement by the Global Alliance For Infections In Surgery
: Intra-abdominal infections (IAIs) are an important cause of morbidity and mortality in hospital settings worldwide. The cornerstones of IAI management include rapid, accurate diagnostics; timely, adequate source control; appropriate, short-duration antimicrobial therapy administered according to the principles of pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics and antimicrobial stewardship; and hemodynamic and organ functional support with intravenous fluid and adjunctive vasopressor agents for critical illness (sepsis/organ dysfunction or septic shock after correction of hypovolemia). In patients with IAIs, a personalized approach is crucial to optimize outcomes and should be based on multiple aspects that require careful clinical assessment. The anatomic extent of infection, the presumed pathogens involved and risk factors for antimicrobial resistance, the origin and extent of the infection, the patient's clinical condition, and the host's immune status should be assessed continuously to optimize the management of patients with complicated IAIs
Kinesiological Rehabilitation in a Young Adult with Biceps Femoralis Arteriovenous Malformation: A Case Study
Background/Objectives: This case study involved a 24-year-old male with an arteriovenous malformation localized in the long head of the right biceps femoris muscle, with an anterior cruciate ligament injury. The aim was to assess the effects of a five-week kinesiological protocol, which included global postural re-education and strengthening exercises focused on knee stabilization. Methods: The effectiveness of the therapeutic intervention was evaluated using Gait Analysis, clinical examination, and the SF-36 questionnaire to assess the patient’s quality of life. Results: The study revealed significant postural improvements, including the restoration of the spine’s physiological curves, with kyphosis angles measuring 44.7° in indifferent orthostasis and 41.7° in self-corrected standing; and lumbar lordosis measuring 32.8° in indifferent orthostasis and 41.9° in self-corrected standing. Additionally, there was a restoration of the correct knee, hip, and ankle angles, along with a shift in the principal axis of the center of pressure from 7.6° pre-intervention to 12.9° post-intervention. The patient’s perception of physical efficiency also improved, increasing from 60% to 75% over the treatment period. Conclusions: The effectiveness of the kinesiological treatment was confirmed by the improvement in gait stability and overall strengthening. The patient’s active involvement in the treatment process enhanced his confidence in its success, ensuring adherence to the protocols
After outlining the theoretical and methodological developments of Digital Religion Studies, the essay investigates the relationship between the morphology and function of digital religious rituals, focusing on two exemplary cases: prayer and initiation. The contribution discusses whether sacred action – the foundation of ritual – retains the same effectiveness when transferred to virtual environments, applying interpretative models from cognitive science and ritual theor
Current Views About the Link between SARS-CoV-2 and the Liver: Friends or Foe?
The emergence of the novel coronavirus and the pandemic resulting from its spread have led to significant negative impacts on health, economy, relationships, and others. Particularly in the field of hospital care, the need for a greater number of patients has led to a breakdown of the system. Gastrointestinal manifestations are common in SARS-COV 2 patients, while 10% of those who are sick exhibit symptoms only from gastrointestinal without any manifestation on the part of the respiratory tract. The main manifestations are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and anorexia. It is also interesting to note that biochemical liver disorder is a frequent finding and is associated with a worse prognosis and higher probability admission to intensive care. It was also observed that RNA from the virus was found in the stool several days after the tests came back negative pulmonary secretions, while rectal swab virus detection methods were used with a lower but comparable sensitivity to that of nasal swabs. Gastrointestinal symptoms in SARS-COV 2 infection are common and their search should be part of the initial diagnosis approach and have a connection with the gut microbiota dysbiosis and this can lead to an alteration of the gut/liver axis
Educazione, tecnologia, pace.

Mitigating the effect of COVID-19 in a postemergency phase: The role of sense of community and individual resilience
: To identify and confirm patterns of relationships connecting sense of community (SOC) and individual resilience with psychological well-being, via the mediation of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) impacts on life domains. An online survey was conducted with a sample of adults (n = 650) 1 year after the COVID-19 outbreak in Italy and the United States (April-December 2021). Utilizing a Structural Equation Model, we tested a mediation model (n = 563) to identify the associations between SOC and individual resilience and the perceived impacts of the emergency situation and psychological well-being. Results revealed that during the crisis, SOC had an influence on psychological well-being, but only by mediating the effects of COVID-19 impacts on life domains. Independently, individual resilience had a direct influence on psychological well-being. The findings support the importance of the interaction of individual and collective variables that played different roles at different phases of the pandemic. The findings suggest for possible interventions to enhance well-being during crises
