A Bonsai Tree
Get PDFThe art piece, “A Bonsai Tree“, was created by hand out of paper, with a wire understructure, and wood as a base. The tree trunk is robust and strong, which demonstrates stability, while the bushels on the branches create this sense of bursting life. The wooden base is covered with little bushels of grass. While there is not much variety in color there are different shapes and textures that play off of each other and the light which creates little moments of movement.
Contrary to popular belief, the Bonsai tree originated from the Chinese empire. It is an art form of growing and shaping miniature trees to display in containers. Different techniques such as pinching buds, pruning, and wiring branches are used to restrict the growth of an otherwise normal size tree.
The Bonsai tree is a perfect illustration of how God trims and prunes us to become more like Him and shapes us to be steadfast in our faith. He lets us grow and takes care of us, giving us everything we need. Just as the Bonsai must be pruned and tripped in order to show endurance and steadfastness. We too are called to be steadfast in our trials in James 1:12. “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
Earl V. Willetts [1901-1990]
No full textEarl Willetts, an ordained minister for 50 years, was first associated with Cedarville College through the Baptist Bible Institute of Cleveland where he was a faculty member. He accompanied the team of trustees that first visited the Cedarville campus in 1953 when the Baptists were considering acquiring the college, which was on the verge of closing after 59 years of operation. Once the acquisition was completed, Willetts was one of the original members of the new Cedarville College Board of Trustees, starting in 1953, and he served for more than 30 years. He was named an “Honorary Alumnus” of Cedarville College in 1974. In 1982 when Willetts Hall was named for him, Rev. Willetts could boast that he had had at least one child or grandchild attending the college every year since 1953, a total of 18.

Get PDFWhat started as a capstone project to develop a device that could save a life if the carotid artery is severed for a group of Cedarville University juniors and seniors in 2019 is now extremely close to receiving full FDA approval for manufacturing and distribution on a nationwide scale.
The Arterial Restrictive Clamp (ARC) project began in 2018 when Lauren Edmonson, who graduated in 2019 with a degree in allied health, came to Dr. Tim Norman, distinguished professor of mechanical and biomedical engineering at Cedarville, about a medical void in treating this injury, which she observed during her time as an EMT with the Cedarville Township Volunteer Fire Department. Under Norman’s guidance, Edmonson recruited four mechanical engineering students who were pursuing the biomedical engineering minor —Austin Ballentine, Caleb Williams, Devan Kienitz and Bennett Stouffer — to work on a device that could fill this need and be essential to saving lives

Book Review: Isaiah Dunn Saves the Day
Get PDFThis book review attempts to celebrate and encourage Christian educators to use more diverse books in their middle school classrooms in order to reach all students made in the image of God and especially those students who may not often see themselves in classroom literature. This book review seeks to highlight a book in particular that achieves this goal. This book is no other than “Isaiah Dunn Saves the Day Hardcover” by Kelly J. Baptist. Moreover, this book is filled with substantial gospel-centered teaching moments and conversations that can be held during class discussions or instruction. I would also use this book to spark higher-level learning questions and conversations in a middle school classroom. Overall, I am well pleased with this book and would highly recommend this book to be used in any middle school English Language Arts classroom
