Who should be held accountable in technology-induced medical errors? Evaluating the roles of healthcare providers, technology developers, and hospital systems
Get PDFThe integration of technologies such as artificial intelligence, electronic health records, and automated diagnostic systems has significantly altered clinical practice. While these tools enhance efficiency and diagnostic accuracy, they have also introduced new forms of medical error, raising complex questions about responsibility. This article examines the ethical dimensions of accountability in technology-induced harm by evaluating the roles of healthcare providers, technology developers, and hospital systems. Drawing on the four pillars of medical ethics; autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice, it explores the overlapping responsibilities of each stakeholder and the challenges that arise when harm occurs. Through analysis of the Therac-25 radiation overdoses and algorithmic bias in AI mammography, the discussion illustrates the limitations of attributing blame to a single actor. Instead, it argues for a shared accountability model that emphasises collaboration, transparent design, comprehensive training, and institutional oversight. As healthcare technologies continue to evolve, so too must ethical frameworks for accountability. A collective approach is essential to ensure patient safety, reduce disparities, and maintain trust in technology-driven healthcare
Knighted Pawn\u27s Tour
Get PDFThe Knighted Pawn’s Tour is a variant of the traditional Knight’s Tour problem, whichitself is an instance of the Hamiltonian cycle problem. The deviation from the Knight’s Tour problem is that a pawn begins on any field on the second rank (row), and advances with legal moves that can include captures to the opposite end of the board to become a knight. These fields, used by the pawn on the path to knighthood, are subsequently forbidden for the knight’s return to the starting field. The knight must traverse the rest of the chessboard, visiting each remaining field exactly once before returning to the pawn’s original starting field, thus completing a Hamiltonian cycle. Because of symmetry, only the A-, B-, C-, and D-pawns need to be considered. For these pawns, we have found that a total of 88 advance paths allow for the completion of a Knighted Pawn’s Tour. In the proof, we first rule out certain advance paths with parity and geometric arguments, and then all remaining advance paths are algorithmically generated and tested
Beyond Borders: Branding and Self-Presentation Strategies of US-based Indian Influencers
No full textThe rise of social media influencers has changed digital marketing, creating new opportunities for brand collaborations and audience engagement. Using a quantitative content analysis, this study examines the sponsorship strategies of US-based Indian influencers through the lens of human branding, self-presentation, Taylor’s six-segment strategy wheel, cultural messaging, sponsorship patterns, and user engagement. Sponsorships were classified into three categories: advertisement placements, sponsorship-focused messages, and sponsorship disclosures. The findings demonstrate the varied representation of these influencers and their branding strategies, as well as the impact of cultural identity on self-presentation and engagement, offering insights into cross-cultural influencer marketing
With an Indifference to the Geography of Home
No full textErstwhile explores elegy’s resistance to consolation, faith, and closure, engaging both critically and creatively with the ways grief lingers. At its core, this project is an interrogation of loss—how we speak to the dead, how they speak back, and what remains unresolved in that exchange. My poems, centered on the death of my brother, extend outward to elegies for landscapes, histories, and imagined futures. Nature becomes both witness and participant, reflecting the way grief moves, vast and uncontained. The critical introduction situates my work within the tradition of poets who have wrestled with grief’s shape—John Milton’s formal resolve, Charlotte Smith’s untethered mourning, William Wordsworth’s return to memory, and Ted Kooser’s quiet intimacies of loss. Drawing from Jahan Ramazani’s Poetry of Mourning, I examine how contemporary elegy resists the closure that pastoral elegy once sought. I also question the role of faith in mourning, turning to Donald Revell’s assertion that “religion is what happens when faith becomes routine” to consider where ritual falters and what might take its place. Rather than offering resolution, this dissertation lingers in the spaces grief leaves behind. Through both poetry and critical inquiry, it suggests that elegy is not about letting go but about holding on—about keeping the dead within reach, if only through language
EXAMINING THE MODERATING ROLE OF WORK MODALITY ON EMPLOYEES’ ENGAGEMENT AND PERCEPTIONS OF INCLUSION
Get PDFIn the evolving landscape of work, organizations increasingly adopt diverse modalities, including on-site, remote, and hybrid arrangements. This quantitative correlational study examines the relationship between work modalities, employee engagement, and perceived inclusion, with a focus on the moderating role of work modalities. Recognizing employee engagement as a key driver of organizational performance and perceived inclusion as essential for well-being and innovation, survey data were collected from 402 employees across multiple industries. Results revealed a strong, positive correlation between perceived inclusion and employee engagement (r = 0.789, p \u3c .001). Work modality significantly moderated this relationship, with hybrid workers experiencing a weaker inclusion-engagement link, while remote workers showed no significant moderation effect. Additionally, on-site workers demonstrated a robust inclusion-engagement relationship. Hybrid workers reported higher perceived inclusion scores, though engagement levels remained consistent across modalities. These findings underscore the need for tailored inclusion strategies to optimize employee experiences and enhance organizational effectiveness. This study provides actionable insights for fostering inclusive workplace cultures and improving employee well-being in modality-diverse environments
Those Magnificent Men in their Fighting Machines: An Investigation into the Lives of WWI Tankmen
Get PDFThis thesis will look at the immense backlog of war diaries, journals, personal letters, government documentation, and oral histories left behind by British tank crewmen of the First World War. The purpose of this investigation is mainly to uncover the reasons that individuals were chosen for transferal into the Royal Tank Regiment, where they were transferred from, what their training consisted of before their deployment, and their combat history once they were sent into the battlefields on the Western Front. The goal of this project is to gauge the reaction to the emergence of this crucially important technology on a personal level, specifically from those who had to work in and around them during World War One. This thesis is a probe into the new and unique relation between man and machine that the First World War created.
One of the key findings of this investigation is the unique way that class relations in the British Army were altered by the emergence of mechanized warfare. Working-class soldiers were given significantly more agency through the tank corps, and were able to engage in the sorts of tactical education and decision-making that beforehand would have been reserved for the upper-class corps of officers, as was the case with the infantry. This thesis finds that the training of these tank crewmen and their individual actions and newfound agency in mechanized forces contributed decisively to how well thesis vehicles performed in the field, and how they were remembered after the war had concluded
