Inference on diffusion processes related to a general growth model
No full textThis paper considers two stochastic diffusion processes associated with a general growth curve that includes a wide family of growth phenomena. The resulting processes are lognormal and Gaussian, and for them inference is addressed by means of the maximum likelihood method. The complexity of the resulting system of equations requires the use of metaheuristic techniques. The limitation of the parameter space, typically required by all metaheuristic techniques, is also provided by means of a suitable strategy. Several simulation studies are performed to evaluate to goodness of the proposed methodology, and an application to real data is described

Dye removal from wastewater using nanostructured chitosan aerogels produced by supercritical CO2 drying
No full textBackground: Dyes abundance in wastewaters poses environmental threats, and a cost-effective strategy to remediate dyed water is adsorption: this process could be enhanced using nanostructured sorbents, that expose high surface areas. Methods: In this work, chitosan aerogel adsorbents were produced by supercritical CO2 assisted drying, working at 200 bar, 35 °C, and CO2 mass flow rate of 0.8 kg/h. FESEM images proved that the delicate biopolymeric network was intact thanks to near-zero surface tension at the interface between CO2 and the liquid, and large supercritical fluid diffusivity. Methyl Orange (MO) and Crystal Violet (CV) were used as model anionic and cationic dyes, respectively. Significant findings: Changing dye initial concentration, chitosan aerogel showed different behavior at low and large driving forces, for both CV and MO. Adsorption experiments proved that MO could be not completely removed by aqueous solutions: whereas, CV removal was successful with removal efficiencies up to 89.0 ± 1.1 % from a 10 ppm solution, using 50 mg of aerogel. FT-IR analysis proved that chitosan active sites were more effectively involved with CV rather than MO. Kinetic analysis, carried out for both dyes, showed that the process follows a pseudo-second order kinetics, related to internal mass transfer resistances and diffusion phenomena

La Corte ha stabilito che la Consob non può ritenersi responsabile per il solo fatto della falsità da prospetto, per fondare la sua responsabilità va accertata la presenza di un atteggiamento imputabile a titolo di colpa, nei casi in cui la falsità delle informazioni contenute nel prospetto sia manifesta oppure quando non siano stati svolti gli approfondimenti necessari in presenza di segnalazioni specifiche che denuncino tali falsità. L'argomento va considerato anche alla luce delle novità apportate dalla "Legge Capitali"

Embedding Informality into Sustainable Development Indices for Europe
No full textThis paper proposes a new sustainable development index incorporating informality measures for 36 European countries from 2010 to 2022. This index is estimated via a combination of national accounting, macroestimates of informality, and survey data through partial least squares (PLS) regression, drawing on Eurostat, MIMIC method, and Eurobarometer data. The index is assessed within three specifications: a baseline using standard sustainable development indicators and two alternative specifications that include the informal economy and informal employment. The findings indicate that countries with larger informal economy tend to perform comparatively weaker in sustainable development metrics than those with smaller informal economy do, underscoring the importance of policies that address informality to achieve inclusive and comprehensive sustainable development
