Evaluating the impact of government orientation on the adoption of AI in business: a causal inference study

    No full text
The widespread development and subsequent adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has reshaped global economies and businesses, with factors such as GDP and research & development expenditures identified as important drivers of this transition. However, the influence of political orientation on AI adoption in the industrial sector remains quite underexplored. This study aims to address the causal relationship between government political ideology and AI adoption in European businesses. To this end, the study is constructed within the potential outcome framework, incorporating economic and geographical confounders to account for possible differences. The findings indicates that left-leaning governments exhibit higher AI adoption rates in comparison to right-leaning governments, suggesting that progressive political ideologies may prioritize digitalization and innovation. The estimated Average Treatment Effect (ATE), weighted with respect to the propensity score, shows that right-leaning governments reduce AI adoption. These results emphasize the central role of government policies in enabling technological transformation. Despite the study's limitations, generally related to small sample size and potential bias due to the inability to achieve covariate balance, the study highlights the necessity for policymakers to promote collaborative digital transformation strategies that rise above ideological division, ensuring that the benefits from AI advancements are equitably distributed across Europe

    No full text

Long-Term Impact of Cenobamate on Cognition, Adaptive Behavior, and Quality of Life in Patients with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex

Introduction: Cenobamate is a recent therapeutic option for epilepsy, but few studies have investigated its impact on cognitive and emotional/behavioral functioning. The aim of our study was to assess cognitive function, adaptive behavior, quality of life, and parental stress in late adolescents and young adults with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and drug-resistant epilepsy, treated with add-on cenobamate over a 12-month period using standardized neuropsychological tests. Methods: Our prospective observational study included 22 patients, aged 18 to 24 years with a diagnosis of TSC and drug-resistant epilepsy who started cenobamate add-on therapy for improving seizure control. At baseline and after 3- and 12-month follow-ups, participants completed a neuropsychological standardized assessment of executive functions (Epitrack©), adaptive behavior (VABS-II), quality of life (QOL), and parental stress (PSI). Cognitive functions (WAIS-IV) were reassessed only at the 12-month follow-up. Changes in standardized scores over time were analyzed using Friedman's two-way analysis of variance and post hoc analysis. Relationships between demographic/clinical variables and neuropsychological scores were analyzed using correlation analysis. Results: Our study highlighted a statistically significant improvement in Epitrack, PSI-4-SF, and QOL scores after 3- or 12-month follow-ups (p < 0.05). Stability was maintained for the WAIS and VABS-II scores. The subjects with TSC2 mutations showed significantly lower IQ scores than those carrying TSC1 mutations (p < 0.001). Total parental stress (PSI) was significantly related to the total score of VABS-II at both baseline (p = 0.003) and 12 months (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Our study suggested that cenobamate add-on therapy was effective and generally well tolerated in this cohort. Neuropsychological assessments suggest beneficial effects on executive functions, emotional well-being, social functioning, and quality of life. Furthermore, an improvement in parental stress also emerged. These findings could support clinicians in the decision-making process, evaluating cenobamate as an early treatment option in drug-resistant epilepsy

Musipainter: A music-conditioned generative architecture for artistic image synthesis

    No full text
Generative art is a challenging area of research in deep generative modeling. Exploring AI’s role in human–machine co-creative processes requires understanding machine learning’s potential in the arts. Building on this premise, this paper presents Musipainter, a cross-modal generative framework adapted to create artistic images that are historically and stylistically aligned with 30-second musical inputs, with a focus on creative and semantic coherence. To support this goal, we introduce Museart, a dataset designed explicitly for this research, and GIILS, a creativity-oriented metric that enables us to assess both artistic-semantic consistency and diversity in the generated outputs. The results indicate that Musipainter, supported by the Museart dataset and the exploratory GIILS metric, can offer a foundation for further research on AI’s role in artistic generation, while also highlighting the need for systematic validation and future refinements

    Non-standard schemes for time-fractional reaction–advection–diffusion problems

    No full text
The present paper concerns the numerical solution of time-fractional reaction–advection–diffusion problems. In real applications, an important issue is the preservation of qualitative properties of the analytical solution, such as positivity, which standard methods achieve only for small stepsizes. Here, novel explicit and implicit non-standard finite difference methods are introduced, by treating different terms in the approximations on different time levels, in a way to keep the solution non-negative at all times. A rigorous analysis of the stability and convergence of the proposed schemes is provided, offering robust theoretical results that illustrate their effectiveness in preserving positivity while generating accurate approximations of the solution. Finally, some numerical experiments demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed methods on different benchmark problems

    Baker-Beynon duality beyond semisimplicity

    No full text
Combining tools from category theory, model theory, and non-standard analysis we extend Baker-Beynon dualities to the classes of all Abelian l-groups and all Riesz spaces (also known as vector lattices). The extended dualities have a strong geometrical flavor, as they involve a non-standard version of the category of polyhedral cones and piecewise (homogeneous) linear maps between them. We further show that our dualities are induced by the functor Spec, once it is understood how to endow it with “coordinates” in some ultrapower of . This also allows us to characterize the topological spaces arising as spectra of Abelian l-groups and Riesz spaces as certain subspaces of endowed with the Zariski topology given by definable functions in their respective languages. Furthermore, we provide some applications of the extended duality by characterizing, in geometrical terms, semisimplicity, Archimedeanity, and the existence of weak and strong order-units. Finally, we show that our dualities afford a neat and simpler proof of Panti's celebrated characterization of the prime ideals in free Abelian l-groups and Riesz spaces

Il dilemma dell'eutanasia. Riflessioni a partire da "La grazia" di Paolo Sorrentino

    No full text
Starting from Paolo Sorrentino’s film La grazia, this paper offers a legal reflection on issues related to end-of-life decisions. Through the figure of the President of the Republic, called upon to rule on requests for clemency and on the promulgation of an euthanasia law, the film stages the conflict between the protection of life, individual conscience, self-determination and human dignity. Cinematic narration thus becomes the space in which the Italian regulatory gap, the judiciary’s supplementary role, and the enduring influence of ethical and religious perspectives in the public debate on end-of-life issues emerge
