    Interior a priori estimates for higher order elliptic systems in Orlicz spaces

    We study singular integral operators with variable Calderón--Zygmund kernels and their commutators with VMOVMO functions in the framework of Orlicz spaces. After revisiting the classical LpL^p theory, we establish boundedness results in LΦL^\Phi under standard Δ2\Delta_2 and 2\nabla_2 conditions on the Young function. The proofs rely on decomposition techniques and weak-type estimates. As an application, these results provide a functional-analytic foundation for a priori estimates and interior regularity of solutions to higher-order elliptic operators with discontinuous coefficients

    Electroformation of Giant Unilamellar vesicles: Novel electrode design and parameters for enhanced GUVs production

    : The formation of Giant Unilamellar Vesicles (GUVs) is a critical technology with applications in drug delivery and the study of cellular membranes. This work presents optimized electrode designs and parameters for the electroformation of GUVs. Conventional indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes are fragile and have limited lifespans. Meanwhile, stainless steel offers mechanical robustness, reusability, and chemical stability due to its chromium oxide layer, particularly in aqueous buffers at near-neutral pH. Here, stainless steel electrodes with different geometries were tested as a cost-effective alternative. The influence of electrode shape, alternating current (AC) frequency, and applied voltage on vesicle yield and size was systematically investigated. Four chamber configurations were evaluated and optimized for electrical resistance. Broad stainless steel mesh 30 electrodes produced the highest vesicle yield, associated with larger surface area and favorable voltage-frequency combinations. Results indicate that electrode shape and electroformation parameters significantly affect GUV characteristics. Stainless steel electrodes can replace ITO electrodes, enabling robust and scalable GUV production. This approach supports applications in biophysics, drug delivery, and biosensor development while reducing material costs and improving operational durability

    Grapevine cultivation is one of the most relevant economic drivers of the Mediterranean basin, benefiting from favorable climate conditions, characterized by dry summers and wet winters. However, climate change poses new challenges that must be addressed and, thus, traditional farming expertise is no longer sufficient to ensure optimal wine productivity and quality. Among the key factors influencing grapevines, soil moisture plays a crucial role since it affects plant health, grape composition, and overall wine quality. Optimizing water management through advanced monitoring techniques is therefore essential for enhancing vineyard sustainability. The geomatic techniques, leveraging geospatial big data and information and communications technology, have emerged as powerful tools for monitoring vineyard health and optimizing wine productivity, quality, and sustainability. This paper presents the latest technological advancements in vineyard monitoring for soil moisture assessment, providing a comprehensive analysis of their strengths and weaknesses. The research methodology is structured into two key sections: the former focuses on monitoring technologies, while the latter describes the effectiveness and efficiency of these approaches, with particulat emphasis on machine learning applications and data fusion strategies to improve accuracy and decision-making in vineyard management. Up to now, most approaches have prioritized data acquisition and dissemination, leaving their full potential underexplored. This study outlines that integrating advanced earth observation techniques can lead to more data-driven, efficient, and sustainable viticulture

    Digital Consumption and Digital Emotions. A Netnographic Analysis of Emotions on Twitch: Technology and Society: The Process of Digitizing Emotions

    The role of new technologies has become prominent within society; however, little research addresses the impact of emotions found within entertainment activities on the internet. There are many platforms on which to create one’s own work, such as YouTube, Instagram, Twitch, OnlyFans, and so forth (Auriemma 2023a). The research that has been conducted has been limited to critical views toward certain contexts, such as Twitch (Hilderbrand 2007). New media approaches, however, do not only change people’s tastes and habits but also actions, affectations, and languages (Richard 2017). Subsequently, it is crucial to analyze the emotions that develop out of the relationships and interactions that occur within this cross-section of the world as well. This chapter analyzes the emotions occurring within the chats of a selected sample of famous Italian content creators on Twitch to understand the role of these new technologies. Twitch has been prominent in recent years as a live streaming platform, yet there is still little research examining it. This study focuses on culture and language; while it is similar to Auriemma (2023b), which focused on emotional capitalism found in the OnlyFans platform, it differs in form and content. This current study and Auriemma (2023b) both analyze existing subcultures but differ in the emotional compartment (emotional subtraction and emotional evocation)1 put into the field. The few studies that exist merely emphasize, in a critical way, the role of digital work, by analyzing the generational context almost as if it were something to be demonized (Laser 2020). These studies only focus on a few social media sites that offer a certain type of entertainment, such as that of OnlyFans. Instead, our goal is to make people understand the need for media literacy, delving into the role of online subcultures and their analysis (Crespi, 2002); Auriemma, 2024). Going beyond the critique of certain contexts, this study takes the cue for an analysis of emotions, with an empathetic stance toward the live streams of some famous Italian streamers on Twitch

    Controlling Ultrafast Excitations in Germanium: The Role of Pump-Pulse Parameters and Multi-Photon Resonances

    We employ the Dynamical Projective Operatorial Approach (DPOA) to investigate the ultrafast optical excitations of germanium under intense, ultrashort pump pulses. The method has very low resource demand relative to many other available approaches and enables detailed calculation of the residual electron and hole populations induced by the pump pulse. It provides direct access to the energy distribution of excited carriers and to the total energy transferred to the system. By decomposing the response into contributions from different multi-photon resonant processes, we systematically study the dependence of excited-carrier density and absorbed energy on key pump-pulse parameters: duration, amplitude, and photon energy. Our results reveal a complex interplay between these parameters, governed by resonant Rabi-like dynamics and competition between different multi-photon absorption channels. For the studied germanium setup, we find that two-photon processes are generally dominant, while one- and three-photon channels become significant under specific conditions of pump-pulse frequency, duration, and intensity. This comprehensive analysis offers practical insights for optimizing ultrafast optical control in semiconductors by targeting specific multi-photon pathways

    A lex Fabia, enacted in the 1st century bce, introduced the crime of plagium, which sanctioned the abduction, sale, or unauthorized control of Roman citizens or slaves. The law imposed fines and, later, capital punishment for these acts. Over time, the definition of plagium and its prosecution evolved, thanks to numerous imperial constitutions and juristic interpretation. By the 3rd century ce, jurisdiction over plagium cases shifted to various Roman officials, leading to procedural changes. The term plagium and its derivatives is likely to have become associated with the crime during the Classical period

    Event-Scale Assessment of the Effectiveness of SuDS in the Quantitative Control of CSOs

    The European Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) promotes an integrated approach to water management, recognizing water as a shared resource and defining quality objectives. Within this framework, Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) provide effective solutions to improve water quality, control runoff, mitigate hydrogeological risk, and enhance urban resilience. This study investigates the application of SuDS for quantitative stormwater management in a 290-ha industrial district within the Metropolitan City of Milan. Using a synthetic design storm as a benchmark, the study provides event-scale evidence of the performance of SuDS under observed rainfall events, a topic often underrepresented in the literature. Two hydrologic–hydraulic models were developed using SWMM ver. 5.2: a baseline model representing current conditions and a design model integrating SuDS across 24 hectares. Simulations were performed for four rainfall events representative of typical conditions and for a synthetic 10-year return period design event. Results show that, under observed events, SuDS reduce total CSO volumes by 44% and peak flows by 47%, while decreasing overflow activation by around 11%, with the highest effectiveness during ordinary rainfall conditions. Compared with the synthetic 10-year design event, SuDS exhibit similar volume reductions but lower peak-flow attenuation and overflow frequency reduction, highlighting different system responses under real and design rainfalls

    La doble extrañeza del italiano emigrado a Venezuela

    La migración italiana a Venezuela presenta una característica muy particular porque se desarrolla después de la segunda guerra mundial y se concentra en poco más de una década, entre 1947 y enero de 1958. Es por eso mismo que, hasta hace muy pocos años, había migrantes de primera generación que contaban su propia experiencia y las condiciones materiales, morales y psicológicas de vivir como extraños en un país extranjero. Como todas las primeras generaciones de migrantes, los italianos no se integraron totalmente en la sociedad de acogida, por falta de conocimiento del idioma, por costumbres diferentes, por el deseo de regresar a su patria. Además, las transformaciones muy rápidas de la sociedad italiana de los 50 y las dificultades para viajar a menudo a Italia “impidieron” a los migrantes regresados reconocer el país de donde salieron. Se determinó una condición de doble extrañeza en la que vivía el migrante italiano: fue un extranjero en el país latinoamericano y no hubo reencuentro con su pueblito, con sus amigos partidos hacia otros destinos, con la sociedad rural que había sobrevivido hasta la segunda guerra mundial. El artículo retoma las entrevistas a los inmigrados italianos de un pequeño pueblo de la provincia de Salerno para subrayar esta particular condición de doble extrañeza, su modificación entre primera y segunda generación (y las expectativas por la tercera) y unos aspectos culturales como el diferente utilizo de los idiomas italiano y castellano, y del dialecto en las familias de un grupo de emigrados a Venezuela

    Governing the Digital Audience: Donald Trump’s Political Communication Across Platforms and Influence Networks

    This article examines how the role of digital platforms is reshaping political communication and consensus-building in contemporary societies. It questions how algorithmic architectures are transforming the relationship between leadership, audiences, and power. Drawing on an empirical analysis of online interaction data, the study analyses Donald Trump’s political communication during the August 2025 summit with Putin in Alaska, presenting it as a paradigmatic example of networked leadership. The study focuses on the dynamics of mobilisation, polarisation, and identity construction within digital ecologies. The findings show that the leader’s centrality derives not only from traditional party structures, but also from the ability to coordinate heterogeneous communication flows as well as activate processes of affective and symbolic resonance. The article proposes a theoretical model that conceptualises Trump’s audience as a cognitive and emotional power device, highlighting the convergence of post-organisational populism, algorithmic mediatisation, and communicative governance. This leadership expresses forms of “algorithmic charisma” that redefine the modalities of political legitimacy. Methodologically, the study highlights the value of data-driven interpretive approaches, while also addressing their limitations related to algorithmic transparency and replicability. In conclusion, the article offers a critical reflection on emerging ecologies of consensus and the democratic implications of the ongoing “platformisation” of the public sphere

    The Interplay Between Insulin Resistance, Affective Dysregulation, and Binge Eating in Obesity: Toward an Integrated Biopsychosocial Treatment Model

    Background: Obesity is increasingly recognized as a complex condition characterized by the convergence of metabolic dysregulation and psychological vulnerability. Insulin resistance (IR) has been identified as a biological bridge linking metabolic imbalance with affective symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and disordered eating behaviors. Methods: Fifteen obese adults (mean age = 25 ± 4.3 years) were evaluated through clinical examination, anthropometric assessment (BMI), biochemical assays (fasting insulin, AST, ALT), and standardized psychological assessments (STAI, BDI-II). In parallel, a rapid systematic review (2019–2025) synthesized evidence on the association between IR, affective dysregulation, binge eating disorder (BED), and the clinical role of insulin-sensitizing or incretin-based therapies. Results: Participants exhibited marked hyperinsulinemia (M = 79 μU/mL, SD = 6.61) and elevated anxiety (STAI-Trait = 54.22 ± 22.4) and depression scores (BDI-II = 21.6 ± 7.5). Liver enzymes were within normal limits. Literature synthesis confirmed consistent associations between IR, mood symptoms, and BED, associated with biological processes including inflammation, HPA axis hyperactivity, and dopaminergic imbalance. Integrated treatment approaches combining cognitive-behavioral therapy, medical nutrition therapy, and insulin-sensitizing agents (metformin, GLP-1RA, and GLP-1/GIP RA) were supported as effective and safe options. Conclusions: The coexistence of insulin resistance and emotional dysregulation in obesity is consistent with the hypothesis of a bidirectional metabolic–emotional axis. Early, integrated interventions addressing both metabolic and psychological domains may improve clinical outcomes and reduce progression toward chronic metabolic and psychiatric comorbidity
