Non-linear heat-transport equation beyond the Fourier law: The influence of non-linear effects in steady states

    No full text
In the framework of Extended Irreversible Thermodynamics and in agreement with the second law of thermodynamics, in this paper we derive a heat-transport equation which generalizes the classical Fourier law and contains non-local and non-linear contributions related to the heat flux. In order to delve mainly into the possible influence of the non-linear effects on the heat transfer at nanoscale, only meant as the direct consequence of the non-linear terms appearing in the heat-transport equation, we focus on the longitudinal propagation of heat flux in a thin layer in steady states. The analysis is performed by also employing enhanced boundary conditions which allow to account for the phonon-boundary scattering. A comparison with the results arising from another non-local and non-linear proposal of heat-transport equation is performed as well

    No full text

    No full text
Form, understood primarily as corporeality, but also as the mode of being of a thought or expression, provides an opportunity to consider a material study of law. Behind ideas such as text and fiction, this monograph offers an alternative reading of the history of legal thought. On the ideas of Pierre Legendre, we will attempt to open up reflection on the possibilities of fiction, its presence in legal discourse, and the institution as a linguistic construct and as a possibility of law. Therefore, it will be useful to move beyond the material dimension of law, beyond the form understood by legal formalists and positivists, which is limited to the possible ways in which law validly takes shape and prevails. Finally, we will propose an intellectual path through the textuality of law and its history of historical, literary, and linguistic modulations.

Teaching Software Engineering for Artificial Intelligence: An Experience Report

    No full text
As Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes integral to modern software systems, the software engineering (SE) research community has been actively developing methods, tools, and frameworks to address software quality assurance of AI-enabled systems across critical dimensions such as robustness, ethics, security, and sustainability. These contributions are designed to tackle the complexity of AI systems, such as their probabilistic nature, data dependencies, and societal impact, ensuring they meet the standards of modern software engineering. These advances have, in turn, inspired educators to introduce Software Engineering for Artificial Intelligence (SE4AI) courses aimed at preparing the next generation of software engineers, with notable success examples already reported in the literature. In this experience report, we contribute to the field of SE4AI education by sharing lessons learned in designing and teaching a course that addresses the unique characteristics of AI-enabled systems. Drawing on insights gathered over four iterations of the course, we discuss how students perceive and apply key software engineering concepts, the challenges they encounter with tools and techniques, and how project-based learning bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. Furthermore, we address the broader educational challenges, such as interdisciplinary barriers and the integration of rapidly evolving AI technologies, and provide recommendations to enhance SE4AI education. By reflecting on these experiences, we aim to offer insights and strategies for improving the teaching of SE4AI topics

Innovative porous sulfonated poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene)oxide nanoporous crystalline films: A novel adsorbent to remove cationic dyes from wastewater

    No full text
Sulfonated Poly(phenylene oxide) (sPPO) films with both macroporous hydrophilic sulfonated amorphous phase and hydrophobic nanoporous crystalline (NC) α phase were prepared by solid-state sulfonation and widely characterized. These semicrystalline porous sPPO films exhibiting both macro and microporosity were tested as a novel adsorbent for the adsorption of one of the most common cationic dye, the crystal violet (CV), from wastewater. Nanoporous crystalline sulfonated PPO (NC-sPPO) films evidenced a removal of CV definitively higher, close to 99 %, than the amorphous sulfonated film (R=25 %) and the NC un-sulfonated film (R=10 %). The adsorption kinetic was well explained through a second order model and, according to Langmuir model, a qm = 141 mg/g was obtained. The selective removal of NC sPPO films toward a cationic dyes mixture, made of CV, methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (RhB) molecules was also performed, showing an almost complete removal of all components of the mixture in a few hours. Reusability of NC sPPO films was also studied, obtaining a removal efficiency of 97 % after four cycles of film regeneration

Partial Cubes and Fibonacci Dimension: Insights and Perspectives

    No full text
A partial cube is a graph G that can be isometrically embedded into a hypercube Qk, with the minimum of such k called the isometric dimension, idim(G), of G. A Fibonacci cubeΓk excludes strings containing 11 from the vertices. Any partial cube G embeds into some Γd, defining Fibonacci dimension, fdim(G), as the minimum of such d. It holds idim(G)≤fdim(G)≤2·idim(G)-1. While idim(G) is computable in polynomial time, check whether idim(G)=fdim(G) is NP-complete. We survey the properties of partial cubes and Generalized Fibonacci Cubes and present a new family of graphs G for which idim(G)=fdim(G). We conclude with some open problems

Transparentes.

    No full text

Doing more with less: the role of institutional quality in enhancing energy efficiency in Italy’s “hard-to-abate” sectors

    No full text
This paper investigates the role of institutional quality in enhancing energy efficiency within Italy’s “hard-to-abate” industrial sectors, which include cement and lime, glass and ceramics, metal, pulp and paper, and refineries. These sectors account for a significant share of global energy consumption and CO2 emissions and face unique challenges in decarbonization. Using a novel dataset from the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), covering 329 Italian plants from 2013 to 2019, the study applies the Directional Distance Function (DDF) to measure energy efficiency and explores the impact of institutional quality on energy performance through Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and Two-Stage Least Squares (2SLS) regression. The analysis highlights greater energy efficiency among multi-plant firms, firms in the pulp and paper sector, and firms located in Central Italy. Regression results further show that institutional quality has a significant positive effect on energy efficiency, especially in competitive markets, among multi-plant and non-innovative firms, in Northern regions, and in the glass and ceramics and metal sectors. This paper contributes to the literature by underscoring the importance of institutional quality in driving energy efficiency in energy-intensive sectors and offers policy implications for promoting industrial decarbonization
