Measure-X: A Platform for Collecting Network and Energy Metrics in 5G-Based IoT Applications
Measure-X is a flexible measurement platform designed to collect both conventional network KPIs and IoT-centric metrics, such as energy and Age of Information (AoI), within 5G access networks. Measure-X features a central controller, distributed probes, and a RESTful API for experiment configuration and data retrieval. Its design enables the assessment of network performance, energy consumption, and AoI, as well as the analysis of interference from coexisting applications. We validate Measure-X through a case study conducted in a production environment at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT), demonstrating its ability to identify optimal message rates for minimizing AoI and to quantify performance degradation caused by background traffic. Dysfunctional one-carbon metabolism identifies vitamins B6, B9, B12, and choline as neuroprotective in glaucoma
Glaucoma, characterized by the loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), is a leading cause of blindness for which there are no neuroprotective therapies. To explore observations of elevated homocysteine in glaucoma, we elevate vitreous homocysteine, which increases RGC death by 6% following ocular hypertension. Genetic association with higher homocysteine does not affect glaucoma-associated outcomes from the UK Biobank and serum homocysteine levels have no effect on glaucomatous visual field progression. This supports a hypothesis in which elevated homocysteine is a pathogenic, rather than causative, feature of glaucoma. Further exploration of homocysteine metabolism in glaucoma animal models demonstrates early and sustained dysregulation of genes involved in one-carbon metabolism and the interaction of essential cofactors and precursors (B6, B9, B12, and choline) in whole retina and optic nerve head and RGCs. Supplementing these provides neuroprotection in an acute model and prevents neurodegeneration and protects visual function in a chronic model of glaucoma

Pulmonary adenocarcinoma with multiple intracranial metastases in two cats
Case series summary: This case series describes two cases of feline primary pulmonary adenocarcinoma presenting with multiple intracranial metastases. Both cats exhibited acute and severe neurological deterioration characterised by multifocal neurological signs, significant mass effect, herniation and obstructive hydrocephalus identified on MRI. Histopathological analysis confirmed pulmonary adenocarcinoma with extensive intracranial metastatic disease, a rare and poorly documented phenomenon in cats. Relevance and novel information: Intracranial metastatic disease from pulmonary adenocarcinoma is rare in cats, and detailed descriptions of MRI characteristics of multifocal cerebral metastases are scarce. This report provides novel insights by documenting the MRI appearance of numerous ring-enhancing intracranial lesions, severe perilesional oedema, mass effect and obstructive hydrocephalus secondary to pulmonary adenocarcinoma metastasis in two cats. Such findings highlight the aggressive clinical course and emphasise the importance of including metastatic pulmonary adenocarcinoma in the differential diagnoses for cats presenting with multifocal intracranial lesions, even in the absence of obvious respiratory signs
End-user requirements modelling: An experience report from digital agriculture
Context and motivation: End-user development focuses on enabling non-professional programmers to create or extend software applications on their own. However, before beginning the development process, software engineering best practices recommend performing requirements engineering (RE) activities, including requirements modelling.Question/problem: There is limited research on how end-users can model system requirements. Principal ideas/results: In this experience report, we investigate the problem of end-user requirements modelling in an EU-funded project about agricultural digitalisation. Specifically, a team of agronomists was directly involved in the creation of UML, iStar, and BPMN diagrams to model the transformation of socio-technical processes in four different concrete scenarios. They followed a formalisation procedure proposed within an RE method designed to help stakeholders evaluate the impact of agricultural digitalisation. Starting from textual reports including a description of the process as-is and the process-to-be, they followed step-by-step guidelines for model creation. Contribution: This paper reports insights from the experience from the viewpoint of the agronomists and software engineers involved. We identify nine key lessons that highlight the added value of end-user requirements modelling for achieving a shared and in-depth understanding of the socio-technical processes under analysis
Undertreated Volume and Tumor Morphology as Predictors of Outcome Following Thermal Ablation of 3-7-cm Hepatocellular Carcinoma
Purpose: To evaluate the association of 3-dimensional (3D) undertreated volume and tumor features to local recurrence and survival in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with radiofrequency (RF) ablation. Materials and Methods: A total of 556 patients with well-defined solitary large HCC tumors (3–7 cm) treated with RF ablation alone or RF ablation plus ThermoDox from a multicenter trial between 2014 and 2018 were retrospectively considered for this study. Each patient had pre–RF ablation and 28-day post–RF ablation computed tomography (CT) with sufficient quality. Overall, 185 patients (61 years [SD ± 11]; female, 24%) were included in this study. The mean tumor volume was 31.8 cm3 (SD ± 27.6). The percent of the tumor covered by the ablation zone was determined by semimanual 3D tumor and devascularized ablation zone segmentation with subsequent elastic registration. Tumor and ablation zone overlap and tumor morphology were compared with local recurrence and survival by univariate and multivariate statistical analyses. Results: There was a difference between percent overlap volume, with the RF ablation–alone group showing a higher overlap volume compared with RF ablation + ThermoDox group (73% [SD ± 17] vs 66% [SD ± 22], P = .02). Local recurrence was associated with a larger tumor volume (P = .004) and a higher tumor flatness (P = .034). A modest trend existed between survival and a lower absolute overlap volume (P = .068), lower absolute undertreated volume (P = .063), and lower tumor volume (P = .067). Conclusions: The correlations between tumor-ablation zone overlap and local recurrence and survival suggests that 3D preablation and postablation image registration could aid in verification of adequate treatment coverage or to predict recurrence. Image assessment and registration with ablation may support standardization, tailored treatment approaches, and outcome prediction
