In some contexts, however, where the military dimension was not so predominant, hunting service to the lord could serve the same function as social ‘lift’. That is, here venatores had the same opportunities for social advancement that elsewhere were reserved for scutiferi. This also calls for a reconsideration of the importance of hunting both as an aristocratic status symbol and, more importantly, as a seigniorial prerogative, a fact that has partly escaped historiography, which is more attentive to other aspects of domination over men

Wireless Detection of Pressure by Using PDMS Metamaterial Absorber
Pressure sensors are essential across a wide range of application domains, each requiring tailored performance characteristics. In this work, we propose a novel passive and wireless pressure sensor featuring a compact sandwich structure composed of a metasurface (MTS) layer, a compressible polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate, and a metallic ground plane (GP). When pressure is applied, the PDMS layer undergoes mechanical deformation, leading to both a reduction in thickness and an increase in relative permittivity, which in turn causes a measurable shift in the resonant frequency. A detailed theoretical model based on a pressure-dependent Debye formulation is presented to describe the influence of mechanical compression on the electromagnetic response. The model is validated through full-wave simulations and experimental results. The sensor operates around 22 GHz and can be interrogated wirelessly from a distance of up to 25 cm. It is capable of measuring pressures up to 55 kPa, maintaining stable performance across multiple loading cycles. Thanks to its battery-free operation, compact size, and ease of fabrication, the proposed sensor is well-suited for remote pressure monitoring in environments where conventional wired or active sensors may not be viable
Explainable Machine Learning for Environment-Aware Channel State Prediction in UAV-Based 6G Networks
The emergence of 6G networks demands environment-aware communication paradigms to ensure reliable and efficient connectivity, and Channel Knowledge Maps (CKMs) offer a promising solution by mapping spatial locations to detailed channel characteristics for proactive network optimization. In this context, this paper proposes an explainable Machine Learning (ML)-based framework that uses geometrical features to predict receiver state probabilities in UAV-based mmWave communication networks. Geometrical characteristics extracted from the environment surrounding each receiver are used to train ML models, namely Decision Tree (DT), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), and Deep Neural Network (DNN) models, to predict three receiver states probabilities: Line-of-Sight (LOS), No-Line-of-Sight (NLOS), and Blocked. Experimental results show that the DNN model outperforms DT and KNN, achieving higher accuracy across all states, albeit with no inherent explainability. To address this, the SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) method is applied to indicate feature contributions to each state prediction of the black-box DNN model. This improves the interpretability and reliability of the proposed environment-aware framework for 6G UAV-based networks
Methylation reprogramming associated with aggressive prostate cancer and ancestral disparities
frican men are disproportionately impacted by aggressive prostate cancer (PCa). The key to this disparity is both genetic and environmental factors, alluding to epigenetic modifications. However, African-inclusive prostate tumour DNA methylation studies are lacking. Assembling a multi-geo-ancestral prostate tissue cohort, including men with (57 African, 48 European, 23 Asian) or without (65 African) PCa, we interrogate for genome-wide differential methylation. Overall, methylation appears to be driven by ancestry over geography (152 southern Africa, 41 Australia). African tumours show substantial heterogeneity, with universal hypermethylation indicating more pervasive epigenetic silencing, encompassing PCa suppressor genes and enhancer-targeted binding motifs. Conversely, African tumour-associated heterochromatic hypomethylation suggests chromatin relaxation and developmental pathway activation via enhancer targets. Notably, non-prostate lineage elements appeared preferentially exploited in African tumorigenesis, with ancestry potentially influencing the extent of lineage-inappropriate activation, and tumour progression marked by repression of developmental regulators. Together, these findings point to extensive epigenetic plasticity in African tumours, with intergenic regulatory remodelling promoting genomic instability, metastatic potential and aggressive disease phenotypes

This work presents a modular approach for modelling and analysing the effects of data-alteration attacks in co-operative vehicles applications. The approach exploits multi-model simulation and Funtional Mock-Up Interface (FMI)-based co-simulation tools. The system model is extended with an attacker Functional Mockup Unit (FMU) which implements a strategy for the injection of the attack. Koine and Regional Variation in Mycenaean Tableware Pottery: From Theory to Case Study
This contribution discusses koine and regional variation in Mycenaean tableware and examines the importance of these terms for our understanding of cultural and socio-political developments on the Greek mainland during the late formative, mature, and final phases of the Mycenaean palaces. To do so, based on recent theoretical work by M. Dietler, this article proposes a contextual study of drinking and eating vessels from Pylos, Mitrou, and the “Serraglio” on Kos. Located in different areas of the Mycenaean world, these sites represent diverse case studies, including a palatial center from the southwest Peloponnese, a secondary center from central Greece, and a regional center from the southeast Aegean. Throughout this research, analytical emphasis is placed on the critical comparison between these three sites and other important sites in the northeast Peloponnese, the undisputed home of the so-called Mycenaean koine.
While not denying the increased uniformity in tableware vessels during the formative and full Palatial phases of Mycenaean civilization, the case studies examined in this article reveal multifaceted patterns of material interactions. The leadership of Argive workshops in manufacturing a shared vocabulary for Mycenaean eating and drinking practices cannot be overlooked. However, no direct link can be established between this role and the existence of socio-cultural unity under Argive political control. Instead, the evidence suggests different degrees of participation in a shared Mycenaean identity, which appears in the making during LH IIB, at its peak in LH IIIB1, and under challenge during LH IIIB2. It is also clear that each one of the sites examined in this article followed specific individual patterns. This indicates that local agency had an important role and that the social meaning of Mycenaean tableware vessels was continuously negotiated and manipulated according to the agendas of local communities

The article is devoted to the Narrative on the Sign of the Cross by Maximus the
Greek. The text belongs to the first half of the 16th century, a period when Muscovy definitively
asserted itself on the European and Mediterranean chessboard as the third
and last surviving Christian world power. The construction of the Russian Empire
rested on the definition of Russian Christianity. The contribution Maximus made to
this process consisted of revised translations and new translations of sacred texts, of
religious essays, as well as of his engagement in the interconfessional and intercultural
debates of the times. In all these fields, Maximus applied the tools and methods
that he had acquired in Italy under the influence of Humanism. The Narrative offers
a good example of Maximus’ approach: Therein he defends the most ancient sign of
the cross with two fingers by means of the medieval doctrine of the four senses of
the Holy Scriptures. In this way, Maximus not only participated in the definition of
Russian Orthodoxy, safeguarding the local tradition, but also sought to raise Muscovy
to a higher level of cultural and theological competence, creating the condition
for its actual ecclesiastical autonomy
