    No full text
This volume collects selected short papers presented at the 3rd Italian Conference on Economic Statistics (ICES), held at the University of Naples Parthenope (Italy) on 13-14 February 2025. The contributions offer an overview of recent developments and applications of statistical methodologies in the analysis of economic phenomena, with a particular focus on the themes of sustainability, innovation, and digitalization. These dimensions, central to contemporary social and policy agendas, call for the adoption of advanced methods and robust analytical tools to support informed, data-driven decision-making. In this context, the integration of new data sources and the use of cutting-edge techniques open new opportunities and improve the accuracy and timeliness of economic forecasts and policy assessments. The conference explored these challenges, focusing on the latest innovations in technological development and productivity while addressing the labour market, sustainability, and digitalization. The papers included in this volume reflect the richness of the conference program, covering topics such as: innovation, technological development, and productivity; labour market, entrepreneurship, and digitalization; big data for economic, financial, and business decision-making; advances in spatial data analysis for economics; statistical models and deep learning methods for time-series in economics and finance; tourism and overtourism; advanced statistical models for policy impact assessment; data and indicators for sustainability analysis

The Effect of Exercise-Based Interventions on Health-Related Quality of Life of Patients with Hematological Malignancies: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    No full text
Hematological cancers encompass a collection of heterogeneous conditions. The need for repeated treatments and prolonged hospitalization leads to a decrease in health-related quality of life. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluate the effect of exercise interventions on functioning scales, global health status, and symptoms in patients with hematological cancers. Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases were systematically screened, and randomized controlled trials were included. The primary outcome was health-related quality of life assessed through the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life questionnaire. Meta-analysis was performed using a random-effects model and 95% confidence intervals. Results: A total of 14 trials involving 837 patients with mixed cancer types were included. Most studies evaluated exercise interventions during hospitalization, with aerobic and resistance training at moderate intensity being the most common modalities and adherence rates ranging from 28% to 100%. Exercise programs significantly improved physical (SMD Healthcare 2025, 13, 467 https://doi.org/10.3390/healthcare13050467 Healthcare 2025, 13, 467 2 of 21 0.23; 95% CI: 0.06 to 0.40; p = 0.008), emotional (SMD 0.19; 95% CI: 0.03 to 0.36; p = 0.020) and cognitive functioning (SMD 0.20; 95% CI: 0.02 to 0.37; p = 0.026), and global health status (SMD 0.24; 95% CI: 0.03 to 0.46; p = 0.027). Significant reductions were observed in fatigue (SMD −0.33; 95% CI: −0.52 to −0.14; p = 0.001), pain (SMD −0.34; 95% CI: −0.53 to −0.15; p = 0.000), and insomnia (SMD −0.22; 95% CI: −0.41 to −0.03; p = 0.024). Heterogeneity was minimal across most domains, suggesting consistent findings. Conclusions: Exercise interventions are effective in enhancing functioning scales and global health status and reducing symptom burden in patients receiving intensive treatments. Future research is required to explore the long-term effects of exercise and develop tailored programs for specific hematologic malignancies and treatment settings

Does It Pay Off to Disclose Sustainability Information? The Effect of ESG Disclosure on ESG Controversies in European Banks

    No full text
This paper empirically investigates the relationship between specific dimensions of ESG disclosure and ESG controversies. Weanalyze an unbalanced panel sample of European banks between 2015 and 2022, implementing the GMM-SYS version of theArellano-Bond estimator for dynamic panels. The study results indicate that banks disclosing full information are more likelyto face scandals. In addition, EU membership has a positive impact on the ESG controversies. Overall, our research suggeststhat while transparency is intended to enhance accountability, it may also lead to heightened scrutiny and the exposure of morecontroversies. Our study, therefore, sheds new light on current knowledge on ESG disclosure and controversies, integrating the-oretical, practical, policy, and investor perspective

Sustainable finance literacy and financial well-being: a literature review

    No full text
Sustainable finance transforms financial markets by changing what it takes to achieve a pre-defined outcome. The existing literature on consumer finance examines the relationship between financial literacy and financial well-being. However, the literature on sustainable finance literacy is limited. This chapter aims to review the existing literature on sustainable finance literacy and financial well-being. Firstly, a bibliometric review is been conducted by searching for relevant literature in an online database (Scopus) for over two decades (2000–2024) to account for the theories on financial literacy and financial well-being that emerged in consumer finance. Secondly, a narrative analysis is been conducted using the Theory, Context, and Methodology (TCM) framework (Paul et al., 2017) to identify potential avenues for further research. Future research needs to: i) deepen the difference between financial literacy and sustainable finance literacy, While the former does not appear to be significantly correlated with the likelihood of owning a sustainable finance product, the latter may potentially exhibit some correlation with certain dimensions of financial well-being; ii) demonstrate the benefits of a standard for sustainable finance products to contrast greenwashing and greenhushing; iii) deepen the methodological implications of open-ended questions and endogeneity; and iv) finally, close the gap between what investors perceive their investment to be and the actual product they have invested in

Treatment response assessment of acute pyelonephritis: A multi-reader DWI-based MRI approach

    No full text
Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of a structured reporting score (SRS) in treatment response assessment for acute pyelonephritis (APN) using a diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) -based MRI approach. Additionally, we explored the influence of reader experience on the interpretation of SRS and DWI, including lesion conspicuity and measurements of Apparent Diffusion Coefficient (ADC) maps. Methods: Follow-up DWI-based MRIs of 36 patients treated for APN between September 2021 and June 2023 were retrospectively reviewed by three readers. Follow-up blood inflammatory markers were used as reference standard. Treatment response was assessed using a structured reporting score (SRS). Each reader assigned a score from 1 to 3 to the "conspicuity" of the residual disease on DWI. Quantitative ADC measurements were compared with the Mann-Whitney U test. Descriptive statistics and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) were calculated. Results: The diagnostic accuracy of SRS was 80.6 %, 76.9 %, and 72.2 % for the Reader 1, 2, and 3 respectively. ICC decreased from 0.82 (Reader 1 and 2), to 0.68 when considering all readers. The average conspicuity varied between 2.3 and 2.7. ADC values were significantly higher in complete responders for Reader 1 and 2 (153.5-154.5 vs 107.7-116.2, p < 0.001). The ICC was good (0.89) for Reader 1 and 2 and moderate (0.60) when considering all readers. Conclusions: Treatment response of pyelonephritis can be accurately assessed by a DWI-based MRI, potentially avoiding unnecessary contrast agent administration and radiation exposure. SRS and DWI analysis showed a good inter-observer agreement but a certain learning curve may be necessary for less expert readers
