Interplay between sex, age, BMI, health-related quality of life, and coping strategies in amateur and professional athletes

    No full text
Background/Objectives: The psychological well-being of athletes has garnered increasing interest due to its strong association with physical performance. While somatic indicators such as Body Mass Index (BMI) are routinely monitored in sports, the role of psychological resources—especially coping strategies—in shaping Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) remains underexplored. This study aimed to investigate the influence of psychological and physical factors on HRQoL among amateur and professional athletes, controlling for sex, age, and BMI. Methods: A cross-sectional design was adopted, involving 537 athletes (326 males, 211 females; mean age = 32.44, SD = 13.64), aged 18–76 years. Participants were recruited via online platforms and sports organizations and completed a battery of self-report questionnaires, including the SF-36 to assess HRQoL and the COPE-NVI-25 to evaluate coping strategies. BMI was calculated from self-reported height and weight. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses were performed to assess the relative contributions of demographic, anthropometric, and psychological variables to HRQoL. Results: Demographic variables and BMI explained a limited proportion of the variance in HRQoL. In contrast, coping strategies significantly contributed to HRQoL outcomes, accounting for up to 22.5% of the variance in the global SF-36 score. Positive attitude and social support were associated with better physical and mental health, while avoidance strategies showed consistent negative associations across all HRQoL dimensions. Conclusion: Adaptive coping strategies, particularly positive attitude and social support, play a pivotal role in enhancing athletes’ HRQoL, surpassing the influence of BMI, sex, and age. These findings support the development of tailored psychological interventions to foster athlete wellbeing across competitive levels

OPTIMISATION OF SOC CELLS: PATTERNS AND PREDICTIONS OF EXPERIMENTAL DATA

    No full text
The global energy landscape is undergoing a significant transformation as nations strive to meet sustainability goals and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. A central player in this transition is Solid Oxide Cells (SOCs) technology, which is redefining energy conversion and storage by functioning as dual-purpose devices: generating electricity in fuel cell mode and producing hydrogen or synthetic fuels in electrolysis mode. These highly efficient electrochemical cells can operate using a wide variety of fuel sources, including natural gas, hydrogen, and biogas, making them versatile tools for enhancing modern energy systems.[1] This research investigates the predictive analysis of solid oxide cell (SOC) performance. The preliminary phase involved the compilation of experimental data obtained parametrically under both fuel cell and electrolysis conditions, encompassing both electrolyte-supported and anode-supported cells. This approach guaranteed a sufficiently extensive dataset to substantiate the model's accuracy. Following this, two models were concurrently developed: one deterministic and one stochastic, aimed first at simulating the experimental data and subsequently at predicting the behaviour of short stacks. Both models exhibited congruent predictive behaviours, thereby affirming their validity for the analysis of short stacks

Assessing the Spatial Dimension in Financial Analysis: Evidence from Italian SMEs

    No full text
Effective risk assessment is a prerequisite for informed financial decision-making and sustainable economic growth, as it supports efficient capital allocation and helps mitigate systemic vulnerabilities. This requires advanced predictive frameworks that account for the broader economic and financial context in which firms operate. This study addresses the research gap related to the limited adoption of spatial models in financial analyses by assessing how the integration of the spatial dimension into machine learning classification models enhances their overall performance. Focusing on Italian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as a case study and using firm-level data from the AIDA database for the year 2022, the analysis compares results from the non-spatial probit model with the probit spatial autoregressive and spatial Durbin models. The findings demonstrate that spatial models consistently outperform the non-spatial specification in terms of accuracy, sensitivity and specificity, particularly when the spatial proximity parameter is optimally defined. Moreover, the results show that financial distress tends to cluster geographically, and that firms’ default risk is influenced not only by intra-firm indicators but also by the characteristics of nearby firms

    Introduction. « Genre·s & Corps » à la croisée des disciplines

    No full text

Strategic Carbon Disclosure and Accountable Efficiency: Reporting Shipping Industry Scope 3 Emissions

    No full text
Following increasing regulatory and stakeholder pressures, shipping companies are adopting carbon management strategies and sustainability reporting to align with their long-term goals. This study investigates how global leading shipping companies integrate carbon accountable efficiency, the responsible management of emissions per output through carbon metrics in environmental reporting, into their operational and strategic practices to reduce Scope 3 emissions, encompassing indirect emissions across the value chain, and contribute to SDG7 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. A dual-level content analysis integrating text mining and manual coding of 171 sustainability reports published between 2018 and 2024 is conducted. Although decarbonization is prominent in company narratives, empirical research on its reporting, standardization, and company goal alignment remains limited. Results reveal varied carbon efficiency integration, focus on renewables and low-carbon logistics, and inconsistent Scope 3 reporting, highlighting the need for standardization and the role of sustainability reporting in supporting decarbonization and SDG7–Target 7.2
