Adaptive Coherent Multilook GLRT for SAR Tomography Detection
In recent years, generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) scatterers’ detection in the context of synthetic aperture radar tomography (TomoSAR) has gained great interest from the remote sensing scientific community. This is due to its effectiveness in identifying scatterers within each single azimuth–range resolution cell, particularly in urban areas. The multilook GLRT (M-GLRT) variant offers more satisfactory results at the expense of spatial resolution deterioration, by jointly exploiting the neighboring information of the pixel to be reconstructed. In this context, coherent and incoherent formulations can be adopted. The former provides better performance in the assumption of constant reflectivity of the pixels in the considered neighborhood, while the latter is much more robust with respect to the violation of this assumption. In this article, an adaptive formulation of the coherent and incoherent GLRT is presented with the aim of improving scatterers’ detection and their height estimation. The method is based on an adaptive window setting, to select adjacent pixels with similar height and reflectivity characteristics. A detailed study and analysis of the proposed adaptive coherent M-GLRT (ACM-GLRT) detector has been conducted and validated through simulations along with comparison to both standard and adaptive formulations of incoherent M-GLRT. Experimental findings from a real dataset acquired by the German TerraSAR-X (TSX) over the city of Naples (Italy) demonstrate the performance improvement of our proposed approach

An experimental evaluation of TEE technology: Benchmarking transparent approaches based on SGX, SEV, and TDX
Protection of data-in-use is a key priority, for which Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) technology has unarguably emerged as a — possibly the most — promising solution. Multiple server-side TEE offerings have been released over the years, exhibiting substantial differences with respect to several aspects. The first comer was Intel SGX, which featured Process-based TEE protection, an efficient yet difficult to use approach. Some SGX limitations were (partially) overcome by runtimes, notably: Gramine, Scone, and Occlum. A major paradigm shift was later brought by AMD SEV, with VM-based TEE protection, which enabled ”lift-and-shift” deployment of legacy applications. This new paradigm has been implemented by Intel only recently, in TDX. While the threat model of the aforementioned TEE solutions has been widely discussed, a thorough performance comparison is still lacking in the literature. This paper provides a comparative evaluation of TDX, SEV, Gramine-SGX, and Occlum-SGX. We study computational overhead and resource usage, under different operational scenarios and using a diverse suite of legacy applications. By doing so, we provide a reliable performance assessment under realistic conditions. We explicitly emphasize that — at the time of writing — TDX was recently released to the public. Thus, the evaluation of TDX is a unique feature of this study
Italian waste legislation and convergence in treatment methods
This study investigates whether and to what extent Legislative Decree 152/2006—Italy’s transposition of EU waste policy—acted as a driver of territorial convergence in waste treatment methods between 1995 and 2019. While the decree introduced national targets for separate waste collection, it overlooked deeply rooted regional disparities in infrastructure and socio-economic conditions. Using β-convergence analysis and GMM estimation across Italy’s macro-areas, we investigate growth dynamics in both circular economy methods (e.g. composting, anaerobic digestion) and linear economy methods (e.g. landfilling, incineration). Our findings indicate that convergence is underway, with lagging regions gradually improving their performance. However, convergence is
primarily fuelled by regional socio-economic and institutional capacities, rather than by the decree itself. Legislative Decree 152/2006 had a modest and uneven influence—encouraging the adoption of certain circular methods like anaerobic digestion and mechanical biological treatment but falling short in curbing dependence on
linear methods or fostering consistent territorial alignment. A key regulatory gap emerges: the absence of infrastructural benchmarks and region-specific targets perpetuates pre-existing territorial inequalities. To support an inclusive transition towards the circular economy, future regulations must integrate quantifiable infrastructure objectives, conditional funding mechanisms, and targeted investments—especially in structurally disadvantaged Southern Italy
LIFE SATISFACTION AND FUTURE EXPECTATIONS AMONG YOUNG NEETS: A MIXED METHOD APPROACH
This study examines life satisfaction and future expectations among young NEETs (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) in Italy using a mixed-method approach. Based on a sample of 930 individuals aged 25-29, the research explores both the hedonic and eudaimonic dimensions of well-being. Study 1 employs a binary logit model to analyze the impact of socio-demographic factors, self-efficacy, and trauma-related symptoms (TSC) on life satisfaction. Findings indicate higher life satisfaction among women, caregivers, individuals with higher education, and those from southern regions
