LIFE SATISFACTION & FUTURE EXPECTATIONS AMONG YOUNG NEETS: A MIXED METHOD APPROACH
This study examines life satisfaction and future expectations among young NEETs (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) in Italy using a mixed-method approach. Based on a sample of 930 individuals aged 25-29, the research explores both the hedonic and eudaimonic dimensions of well-being. Study 1 employs a binary logit model to analyze the impact of socio-demographic factors, self-efficacy, and trauma-related symptoms (TSC) on life satisfaction. Findings indicate higher life satisfaction among women, caregivers, individuals with higher education, and those from southern regions. Additionally, self-efficacy positively influences well-being, whereas trauma-related symptoms have a negative effect. Study 2 utilizes text mining techniques to examine NEETs’ aspirations, revealing a predominant focus on employment, stability, and family. Gender and regional disparities underscore the need for targeted policy interventions to address psychological and socio-economic barriers. This research highlights the importance of integrated strategies to enhance NEETs’ life satisfaction and future outlook.

Impact of dyslipidemia and lipid-lowering therapy with statins in patients with neuroendocrine tumors
Dyslipidemia is a potential unfavorable prognostic factor in neuroendocrine tumors (NETs); conversely, statins proved to have antiproliferative effects in NET cell lines and could be a helpful therapeutic strategy for these patients. The main objective of this observational cohort retrospective study is to explore the associations between dyslipidemia and NET progression and evaluate the potential influence of statins in this context. 393 patients with histologically confirmed gastroenteropancreatic or bronchopulmonary NETs from six Italian centres didicated to NET diagnosis and therapy were included. The cohort included 123 patients with dyslipidemia, 81 of which were taking statins. Clinicopathological data, including patient demographics, tumor characteristics, and treatment details as well as the prevalence, timing of dyslipidemia and hypolipemic therapy were collected. The main outcome measure used is progression-free survival (PFS). Among the 393 patients, 123 (31.3%) had dyslipidemia. Statins were used by 81 (65.8%) dyslipidemic patients, mostly atorvastatin. Median PFS was 87 months overall, 124 months in non-dyslipidemic patients, and 72 months in dyslipidemic patients (p =.268). Dyslipidemic patients on statins had a significantly better median PFS (108 months) than those not on statins (26 months; p =.024). Recurrence-free survival (RFS) was also evaluated, but no significant differences were found. In conclusion, while PFS was lower in dyslipidemic patients compared to non-dyslipidemic patients, the difference was not statistically significant. Statin therapy was associated with improved PFS among dyslipidemic patients, suggesting a potential antiproliferative effect of statins in NETs. These findings warrant further investigation to substantiate the role of statins in the management of NETs
Cortisol detection using a Long Period Fiber Grating Immunosensor coated with Graphene Oxide
Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) have revolutionized the protein production sector in aquaculture, leading to significant growth and expansion of the industry. Despite the success of RAS in aquaculture, there are challenges related to stress in fish raised in these systems, which can impact their food intake, growth, and overall well-being. One of the major limitations in the aquaculture industry is the lack of smart sensors for real-time detection of stress hormones like cortisol, hindering our ability to understand and effectively manage the welfare of fish in these systems. In this work, a graphene oxide (GO) coated long period grating (LPG) was fabricated into a double-clad optical fiber (DCF) with W-shaped refractive index profile. The working point of the device was tuned to the mode transition region to enhance its sensitivity against outer medium changes. It was further integrated into a microfluidic system and the fiber surface was functionalized with specific anti-cortisol antibodies for the detection of cortisol. Finally, the performance of this immunosensor was evaluated for a cortisol concentration range of 0.01 ng/mL to 100 ng/mL, a wide working range of concentrations of relevant interest, achieving a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.06 ng/mL. Moreover, a selectivity test using testosterone and glucose as interfering substances was carried out

Sharp cracks computations via energy minimization
In this work, we prove that the energy minimization argument is the only essential ingredient for obtaining
fracture predictions in a two-dimensional linear elastic continuum, i.e. neither regularization nor additional
ad hoc assumptions are necessary to this end. In particular, we show that arbitrary crack paths can be
obtained using two fracture potentials for the “sharp model” that are computed in the form of domain
integrals starting from a global stationarity condition. The capabilities of the proposed approach are
demonstrated with reference to classical benchmark problems of crack propagation in PMMA beams,
which provide curvilinear crack trajectories that are strongly dependent from the initial geometry
