Experimental investigation on FRCM strengthened tuff masonry walls

    No full text
An experimental investigation on the shear-compression behaviour of tuff masonry walls strengthened with fibre-reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM) systems incorporating basalt fibres is presented in this study. Five in-plane quasi-static shear-compression tests (SC) were carried out on unreinforced and FRCM-strengthened tuff masonry walls, with different configurations, in order to evaluate the in-plane nonlinear response and the effectiveness of the FRCM reinforcement in enhancing the global strength of the walls. Bond tests were also carried out to investigate the bond performance of the same FRCM reinforcement-tuff masonry coupling adopted for the walls. The experimental results demonstrated that the application of FRCM significantly improved the structural performance, since the strengthened specimens showed increased shear strength and ductility compared to the unreinforced counterparts. The potential of FRCM systems as a viable solution for retrofitting masonry structures prone to seismic activity is particularly evidenced when the FRCM reinforcement is applied on both sides, since it was observed a more favourable failure mode compared to what observed in the ‘reference’ URM and in the one-side strengthened specimens

Comprehensive Overview of the Effective Thermal Conductivity for Hydride Materials: Experimental and Modeling Approaches

    No full text
In metal hydride beds (MHBs), reaction heat transfer often limits the dynamic performance. Heat transfer within the MHB usually involves solid and gas phases. To account for both, an effective thermal conductivity (ETC) is defined. Measuring and predicting the ETC of metal hydride beds is of primary importance when designing hydride-based systems for high dynamics. This review paper presents an integral overview of the experimental and modeling approaches to characterize the ETC in MHBs. The most relevant methods for measuring the ETC of metal hydride beds are described, and the results and scopes are shown. A comprehensive description of the models applied to calculate the ETC of the MHBs under different conditions is developed. Moreover, the effects of operation parameters such as P, T, and composition on the ETC of the presented models are analyzed. Finally, a summary and conclusions about experimental techniques, a historical overview with a classification of the ETC models, a discussion about the needed parameters, and a comparison between ETC experimental and calculated results are provided

Dal dispositivo normativo al dispositivo pedagogico: il Progetto di Vita per l’inclusione lavorativa. From legal framework to pedagogical device: The Life Project for work inclusion.

The paper analyzes the pedagogical implications of Legislative Decree 62/2024, which introduces the Life Project (LP) as a central tool for the development of inclusive pathways. The article argues that the LP should not be regarded merely as an administrative instrument, but rather as a pedagogical device capable of interweaving rights, education, and social bonds. In particular, it highlights the function of the LP as a driver for work inclusion, understood not simply as job placement, but as an experience of identity, education, and active citizenship. The analysis identifies three key dimensions of the LP: processuality, which requires tools for continuous review and flexible support; relationality, which calls for co-design practices among the person, family, institutions, and community; and transformability, which challenges social and work contexts to reorganize themselves in terms of accessibility and equity. At the same time, the analysis points out three critical issues that represent both challenges and opportunities for research in Special Pedagogy: the development of fair governance models; the experimentation of inclusive co-design practices; and the training of new professional figures capable of mediating transitions and fostering processes of organizational innovation

Measuring Intellectual Capital in Research Centre: an application of the extended VAIC model

    No full text
In the contemporary knowledge-driven economy, intellectual capital (IC) is vital for research technology centres (RTC). This study applies the extended VAIC model to evaluate the IC of an Italian RTC. The extended model, incorporating additional dimensions such as relational and innovation capital efficiency, is adapted to the unique needs of RTCs. Utilizing a single case study methodology, financial reporting data, and management insights, the study assesses the value creation of Alpha's IC and management's perception of the effectiveness of the IC measure. Results indicate that most of the value added to Alpha by IC is based on human capital. The perception of the management of the IC measure using the VAIC confirmed some of the limitations of a model based mainly on financial reporting figures. This paper contributes to the literature and practice of measuring IC providing recommendations on how to fill the gap in existing IC measurement for research centres, providing a comprehensive tool for strategic IC managemen

Umbilical Hernia Probe-Induced Cocco Sign: Color Doppler During Pressure and Release in Standing Position

    No full text
We describe a case of an ultrasound-detected umbilical hernia in a 56-year-old female patient who underwent a skin ultrasound. With the patient in a standing position, the probe was positioned at the level of the umbilicus. Pressure was applied with the probe and then it was released; probe-induced Cocco sign was revealed

A Split Pulse Fusion Method for Radar Reconnaissance

    No full text
In modern battlefields, the electromagnetic environment is complex and changeable, and radar detection and acquisition equipment perform unstably. This often causes pulse splitting in the received pulse stream. As a result, the corresponding data stream shows arbitrary statistical distribution and contains many outliers, leading to errors in signal sorting or identification. To address this problem, a split pulse fusion method for radar reconnaissance is proposed. Firstly, the split pulse fusion algorithm model is constructed, and the pulse is simplified to time point. Then, combining with the idea of robust statistics, a pulse time point clustering algorithm (PTPC) is proposed, and the optimal number of range gates is calculated by fast estimation of the complete pulse flow timing position. Subsequently, the fusion pulse descriptor word (PDW) stream is generated by updating the candidate neighborhood radius, and the fusion result is optimized according to the pulse fusion index. The simulation results show that the proposed method has better performance than the baseline methods in most scenarios with pulse flow characteristic changes, which verifies the stability and superiority of the proposed method
