Les femmes représentent moins d’un tiers des personnes travaillant dans le domaine des sciences, de la technologie, de l’ingénierie et des mathématiques

No full textThe African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) in collaboration with The United Nations Development Program Regional Service Center for Africa (UNDP-RSCA), and the financial support of the Government of Canada has organized in Dakar, a face-to-face training on "Gender-responsive economic policy management within the context of the post-COVID19 recovery”, from 08 to 12 May 2023. The face-to-face training was a follow-up to an online training that took place from 23 January to 17 February 2023 and attended by 318 participants in critical policies issues such as gender and macroeconomics, gender responsive analysis, gender and trade, and gender and gender budgeting

No full textThe present report contains a review of the debt-finance profile of Africa, in particular since the mid-1990s, when there was a general resurgence in growth across the continent. Section 2 is an analysis of public debt ratio trends and levels in Africa. The focus of section 3 is on the composition and structure of external debt. Section 3 is a discussion of the participation of African Governments in the international bond market and the credit risk ratings of Eurobond market participants. Section 5 is an empirical analysis of the risk premium on African sovereign bonds and the drivers of that premium. Section 6 is a discussion of the debt-service and interest-payment challenges faced by African Governments. The report concludes, in section 7, with a discussion of prospects and policy implications

No full textThis study examines the dual impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine crisis on micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Zimbabwe. The research highlights how these global events have exacerbated existing economic challenges, leading to significant disruptions in supply chains, reduced consumer demand, and increased operational costs. The findings reveal that MSMEs in Zimbabwe have faced severe liquidity constraints, workforce reductions, and heightened uncertainty. Despite these challenges, the study also identifies adaptive strategies employed by MSMEs, including digital transformation, diversification of supply sources, and innovative financial solutions. The analysis underscores the need for targeted policy interventions to support the resilience and recovery of MSMEs in the face of global crises

M. Pedro a dénoncé le manque d’espace en matière de politiques pour poursuivre le programme de transformation structurelle en Afrique, disant que « ce n’est pas par manque de plans ». No full textThis study is a deliverable between SRO-SA, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Business Council and members of the SADC Business Council in Botswana, namely Business Botswana and Botswana Exporters and Importers Association. The objective of the study country report is to provide highlights of how MSMEs in Botswana are harnessing technology, innovation, and regional integration agreements to mitigate the impact of COVID19 and the Russia-Ukraine crisis on their performance. Among others, the study report is expected to contribute towards emerging literature that analyses post-COVID-19 and Russia Ukraine crisis recovery strategies for MSMEs in the SADC region and Africa at large. Furthermore, the report is aimed at providing information necessary for mitigating the economic and social impact of COVID-19 and facilitate the contribution of MSMEs to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This country study forms part of a series of 11 country studies, covering the 11 member states of ECA SRO-SA, which will culminate in the production of a regional report that will summarize key findings and policy recommendations at country and sub-regional level within SADC
