A Structure Equation Model Examining Self-care Behavior toward Pregnancy-related Complication and Their Associated Factors among Women in Indonesia
BACKGROUND: Maternal mortality rate is commonly caused by pregnancy-related complications. Performing
adequate self-care could reduce maternal and child mortality, improve quality of life, and reduce health-care
expenses. Few studies exploring factors associated with self-care behaviors toward pregnancy-related complications
using the basis of Orem’s theory.
AIM: This study aimed to investigate the self-care behaviors pregnancy-related complications and their associated
factors among women in Indonesia.
METHOD: This study was used a cross-sectional design. A multistage random sampling of 320 pregnant women
was recruited from four Public Health Centre in West Java, Indonesia. Participants were 18 years old or older and
trimester II and III. Structural equation modeling was used for analysis.
RESULTS: The mean age of the mother was 27 years (SD = 6.03) and gestational age was 26 months (SD = 9.17).
A pregnant woman has moderate self-care behaviors with a mean of 156.5 (SD = 16.91). Path analysis revealed that
knowledge, self-efficacy, and social support have both direct and indirect effects through empowerment on self-care
behaviors toward pregnancy-related complications.
CONCLUSION: This finding provides an initial understanding of basic conditioning factors on self-care behaviors
and the mediating role of empowerment. This study also provides a significant contribution for clinical practice
as basic data to establish future intervention to promote empowerment to achieve optimal self-care behaviors in
pregnant women to prevent a complication

Hospitals are required to provide quality services in accordance with the Minimum Service Standards (SPM) that
have been set. Efforts to improve the quality of pharmacy services in hospitals can be done by applying electronic prescribing. The study aims to determine the differences in the quality of pharmaceutical services between conventional prescribing and electronic prescribing. The study design was observational analytic with a cross sectional study design. Samples totaling 431 recipes were taken by random sampling technique. The statistical test on the variable waiting time and patient satisfaction is
the independent t-test whereas the error-giving variable and the suitability of the prescription with formulary used the chisquare test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that there were differences in waiting times (p value: 0,000), patient satisfaction (p value: 0,000) and suitability of recipes with formulary (p value: 0,000) between electronic prescribing and
conventional prescribing. But there is no difference in the incidence of medication errors between electronic prescriptions and conventional prescribing (p value: 0.063). This study shows that the quality of pharmaceutical services on electronic prescribing is better than conventional prescribing. The implementation of electronic prescribing at M.Natsir Regional Hospital requires more complete policy support and infrastructure so that the quality of pharmaceutical services can be improve
Optimization of Nutrient Medium for Pediococcus acidilactici DS15 to Produce GABA
Nutrition is an essential factor for microorganisms to grow and survive. Carbon and nitrogen sources are used in
producing primary and secondary metabolites. Gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA), a non-coded amino acid, is a
secondary metabolite which acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter of the central nervous system. Pediococcus
acidilactici DS15 is a bacterium belonging to the order of Lactic Acid Bacteria. This study aimed to determine the
effects of nutrients including glutamate, nitrogen and carbon sources on GABA production by Pediococcus
acidilactici DS15. The tests were carried out using a range of 30 mM, 40 mM, 50 mM, 60 mM, and 70 mM glutamate
as inducer and carbon sources in the form of peptone, yeast extract, skim milk, NH4NO3, KNO3, whey tofu and soy
milk as nitrogen sources, and then glucose, lactose, maltosa, sucrose, palm, and cane sugar as carbon sources. The
best sources of both will be tested with levels 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100% for nitrogen and 1, 3, 5, 7,
9, 11, 13 and 15% for carbon. The results of this investigation revealed that the addition of 60 mM glutamate caused
the higher amount of GABA production and the best source of nitrogen and carbon for Pediococcus acidilactici DS15
were 100% whey tofu and 15% palm sugar, respectively. Production rate of GABA by Pediococcus acidilactici DS15
could reach up to 311,485 mg / L
