    Identifikasi Mekanisme Molekuler Senyawa Bioaktif Peptida Laut sebagai Kandidat Inhibitor Angiotensin-I Converting Enzyme (ACE)

    Marine peptide bioactive compounds are currently the focus of research because they have unique properties. One important biological roles of these peptide compounds is an antihypertensive agent against Angiotensin-I Converting Enzyme (ACE) activity. There are several peptide compounds that have been proved to inhibit ACE receptors, such as peptide compounds produced by sea cucumbers (Acaudina molpadioides), blue shellfish (Mytilus edulis), and tuna fish (Thunnini). In this research, identification and evaluation of interactions that occur between peptide compounds with ACE receptors were carried out using protein-peptide docking methods. Sequencing of peptide compounds was modeled using PEP-FOLD server. The best conformation was chosen to explore the interaction of ACE receptor macromolecules using PatchDock software. Interactions that occur were observed further using BIOVIA Discovery Studio 2020 software. Based on the results of protein-peptide docking, blue shellfish peptide compounds and tuna fish had a good affinity for the ACE receptor, in which the ACE score were −391.62 kJ/mol and −516.56 kJ/mol, respectively. Thus, the marine peptide bioactive compound is predicted to be a promising candidate for peptidebased ACE receptor inhibitors

    Penentuan Kadar Fenolat Total, Uji Aktivitas Antioksidan dan Antibakteri dari Ekstrak dan Fraksi Kulit Batang Bintangor (Calophyllum soulattri Burm. F)

    Bintangor (Calophyllum soulattri Burm. F) is a plant from the Clusiaceae family. Some parts of this plant such as the stem bark have been used as traditional medicine. The purpose of this research was to determine the total phenolic content, antioxidant and antibacterial activities of the stem bark of bintangor in the form of extracts and fractions. The stem bark was extracted maceration technique with ethanol extract, followed by fractionation with n-hexane, ethyl acetate and butanol. The obtained extract and fractions were tested for the total phenolic content using the Folin-Ciaocalteau method. The antioxidant activity was determined using the Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power method, while the antibacterial activity was evaluated by diffusion agar method against bacterial pathogen. The study found that the highest total phenolic content was obtained from the ethanol extract (62.76 g/ 100 g), as well as the highest antioxidant activity (4.29 mmol Fe (II)/ 100 g). The best antibacterial activities were shown by ethanol extract with minimum inhibitory concentration 0.8%, resulting in inhibitory diameter of 6.96 mm; followed by n-hexane fraction (0.9%, resulting in inhibitory diameter of 6.63 mm); ethyl acetate fraction (0.625%, resulting in inhibitory diameter of 6.28 mm); and butanol fraction (0.5% resulting inhibitory diameter of 6.03 mm

    Spatiotemporal patterns of latrine-site use by small-clawed otters in a heterogeneous rice field landscape

    Tropical rice fields with asynchronous growth stages provide a good model to investigate the effects of landscape heterogeneity on the use of agricultural landscapes by wildlife. The smallclawed otter (Aonyx cinereus) uses rice fields as latrine sites in Southeast Asia. Through a 53-week survey of latrine sites, we analyzed the spatiotemporal patterns of latrine-site use by small-clawed otters in an asynchronous rice field in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Based on a generalized linear mixed model incorporating local environmental factors, otter latrine-site visitation was positively associated with the vegetative stage of rice cultivation and the biomass of a major prey item, the golden apple snail(Pomacea canaliculata). The vegetative stage of rice cultivation and golden apple snail biomass were closely associated with deep water in rice fields; therefore, water availability in rice fields is likely important in determining the spatiotemporal patterns of small-clawed otter latrine-site use in the asynchronous rice field landscape. To consistently provide latrine sites for small-clawed otters, we recommend that asynchronous rice cultivation be maintained, or zoning of synchronous and asynchronous rice cultivation areas be planned in the region.
