L'unité de purée de mangue aseptique d'Orodara (Burkina Faso) : DAFANI / Assistance technique Cirad 2012 - Propositions

    No full text

Involvement of Notch1 in the development of mouse mammary tumors

The MMTV/neu transgenic (Tg) mice spontaneously develop mammary tumors stochastically after a long latent period, suggesting that the c-neu/erbB2 oncogene is not sufficient for tumor formation. To identify putative collaborator(s) of the c-neu/erbB2, we used the provirus insertional mutagenesis approach with mammary tumors arising in MMTV/neu Tg mice infected with the mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV). The Notch1 gene was identified as a novel target for MMTV provirus insertional activation. In Notch1-rearranged tumors, the Notch1 gene was interrupted by the MMTV provirus insertion upstream of the exons coding for the TM domain. These insertions led to overexpression of novel 5' truncated vary with 7 kb RNA coding for 280 kDa mutant protein harboring only the Notch1 ectodomain, N(EC)mut. These may be involved in tumor formation. Another consequence of these insertions was the expression of truncated 3' Notch1 transcripts (3.5 - 4.5 kb) and proteins (86 - 110 kDa) deleted of most of the extracellular sequences (Notch1intra). We found that 3' truncated Notch1intra can transform HC11 mouse mammary epithelial cells in vitro. Deletion analysis revealed that the ankyrin-repeats and the domain 1 (aa 1751 - 1821) are required, while a signal peptide, the two conserved cysteines (C1652 and C1685) and the OPA and PEST sequences are dispensable for transformation. These results indicate that the N-terminally truncated Notch1intra protein behaves as an oncogene in this system

DSC valuation of PRI of raw natural rubber

    No full text
Thermal oxidation of raw natural rubber from Hevea brasiliensis was analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in dynamic mode. The results obtained revealed a linear relation between the PRI and onset temperature obtained by DSC (r-2 = 0.91), for PRI values <70. On the other hand, when the natural rubber PRI was over 70, DSC was unable to assess that criterion accurately. This was probably because the two techniques were not equivalent regarding the phenomenon measured. Oxidation primarily results in chain scissions during PRI measurement. In DSC, the transition seen during thermal oxidation was associated with crosslinking. In fact, thermo-oxidation is in the initial phase when PRI is measured, but in the terminal phase at the onset of transition in DSC

The seed plant Moresnetia : morphology and anatomy of the stem and fertile frond

    No full text
Together with Elkinsia and Condrusia, Moresnetia is one of the earliest hydrasperman Devonian seed. In contrast with most Devonian seed plants, our collection of Moresnetiafrom Belgium includes a large number of articulated specimens. Before this work, only the distal fertile parts of the plant had been described in detail, but our specimens have allowed us to study the branching pattern and three dimensional organisation of the plant. The first part of this study is based on ten specimens selected for their large dimensions and extensive branching. Classical camera lucida reconstructions have been attempted on these specimens. Furthermore, the size of the sample allowed us to do a numerical reconstruction of the plant. Several parameters have been measured such as the length and width of the axes and inner and outer angles of the ramifications. The modelling is still under progress, but preliminary results are presented here. Anatomy and morphology of the vegetative parts of the plant are still unknown, but we have obtained accurate anatomical information from the stem and the fertile axes preserved as goethite/limonite mineralisations. The stem shows a three-ribbed protostele with mesarch protoxylem strands. C-shaped vascular bundles of the Lyginorachis-type are produced at the tips of the ribs, according to a helical pattern. These bundles divide up to 9 times dichotomously, but not cruciately. Distalmost branches of the fertile frond show a single terete vascular strand. This anatomy is consistent with that observed earlier for Elkinsia polymorpha and Laceya hibernica
