This study examines university students' work experiences within the framework of flexible, insecure, and precarious working conditions. The transformation of labor processes into more flexible and unprotected forms under the influence of neoliberal policies has pushed students to engage in informal and low-wage jobs, particularly within the service sector. In parallel with Zygmunt Bauman’s concept of liquid modernity, students struggle with uncertainty and insecurity in the flexible labor market. The theoretical framework of the study is shaped by Zygmunt Bauman’s analysis of the flexible and precarious structure of liquid modern society, and the labor processes reshaped by neoliberal policies. The main objective of this research is to understand the work experiences of university students who are part of the labor market and to assess the challenges they face. The sample of the study consists of students residing in the Erenler neighborhood of Afyonkarahisar province. A quantitative research method was employed, and a survey was used as the data collection tool. A total of 220 surveys were conducted with university students currently employed. The research focused on variables such as flexible working, job insecurity, wages received, sectors of employment, and reasons for working. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 software. The findings reveal that, while flexibility in the labor market carries several disadvantages, for working students it also offers a certain degree of freedom of movement and may serve as a buffer against workplace mobbing

This master's thesis aims to examine the value and function of Quranic stories as theological arguments from the perspective of theology, one of the fundamental disciplines of Islamic thought. The primary objective of this study is to demonstrate how Quranic stories, beyond being merely historical narratives or moral counsel, align with the aims and methods of theology, particularly in establishing the principles of monotheism and faith. The first section of our research explains the fundamental principles of religion. The second section outlines the meaning of the word "story," its etymological and conceptual framework, and examines its uses in the Quran and its associated concepts. The reality of the stories, their origins, their relationship to history, and their distinction from mythological narratives are discussed. The third section, which constitutes the main axis of the thesis, provides a detailed exploration of the value of stories for theology, their commonality in purpose and methodology with the fundamental principles of this discipline, and the approaches of theologians to stories. During this thesis, I utilized classical and modern dictionaries, as well as the commentaries of scholarly commentators such as Imam Maturidi, Zamakhshari, and Fakhr al-Din al-Razi, to analyze the ways in which stories provide theological evidence and convey the truths of faith. This study argues that Quranic stories embody abstract faith-based truths, present unseen matters with concrete examples, and encourage unwavering faith. It emphasizes that these stories are in harmony with the rational and logical principles of theology and serve an important theological function in reinforcing the principles of monotheism. By uncovering the faith-based message at the heart of Quranic stories using the tools of theology, this research aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of these narratives by contemporary readers and to the practical implications of theology

Caffeine, a widely consumed stimulant found in beverages like coffee, tea, and energy drinks, frequently contaminates surfaces and wastewater. This study explores the use of biochar derived from kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) husks as a sustainable and cost-effective adsorbent for caffeine removal from aqueous solutions. The adsorbent was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for functional group identification, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis for surface area and porosity, and scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy for morphological and elemental analysis. Batch adsorption experiments were optimized at an initial caffeine concentration of 50 mg/L, pH 7.0, 60 mg of adsorbent in 50 mL solution, and a contact time of 90 min. Kinetic modeling showed a strong fit to the pseudo-second-order model (R-2 = 0.999), suggesting chemisorption as the dominant mechanism. Isotherm analysis revealed monolayer adsorption behavior consistent with the Langmuir model (R-2 = 0.999), with a maximum adsorption capacity of 40.32 mg/g. These results demonstrate that kidney bean husk-derived biochar is an effective and environmentally friendly adsorbent for removing caffeine from water, offering promising applications in wastewater treatment

A single VCII-based lossless grounded capacitance multiplier

    Get PDF
A grounded capacitance multiplier (GCM), which has a single second-generation voltage conveyor (VCII), is proposed in this manuscript. The proposed GCM is lossless, and it is designed with two resistors and a capacitor. In the proposed GCM, there is no need for any passive/active element matching conditions. However, both resistors and a capacitor are floating. The ideal and non-ideal analyses are made, and parasitic impedance effects are investigated for the proposed lossless GCM. All simulations are made through the SPICE program, while 0.18 mu m CMOS technology parameters are utilized in the proposed GCM. The proposed GCM has low power consumption, which is calculated as 36.6 mu W by using the SPICE program. The operating frequency range of the proposed GCM is from about 300 Hz to 3 MHz. A maximum multiplying factor can be chosen as 1000 by changing the value of the resistors. In addition, the proposed GCM is tested in the application example to see its behavior. Also, the experiment of the proposed GCM is performed by using one AD844 instead of the VCII

    No full text
This study investigates the thermodynamic performance of Textile-Based Solar Air Heater (TBSAH) compared to Flat-Plate Solar Air Heater (FPSAH) through experimentation in winter conditions in Mugla, Turkey. It employs the Support Vector Regression (SVR) approach to predict and optimize exergy efficiency. Using 100 models with various input data modes including ambient temperature, outlet air temperature, air velocity, solar radiation, and air mass flow rate, exergy performance is forecasted. TBSAH surpasses FPSAH in energy and exergy efficiency, achieving an average exergy efficiency of approximately 41.36 %, considerably better than FPSAH's 31.66 %. SVR models excel in prediction accuracy, yielding RMSE values of 0.0003165 for TBSAH and 0.0003310 for FPSAH. R-2 values are 1 for both, with TBSAH showing minimal training and testing errors (0.03 % and 3.4 %, respectively). SVR models adapt effectively, optimizing parameters (C, sigma, and epsilon) as 100, 10, and 0.0001 respectively, accommodating diverse dataset structures. 10-fold cross-validation confirms SVR's reliability, with high average performance scores of 99.14 % for TBSAH and 99.28 % for FPSAH. The F-test identifies influential input parameters, particularly solar radiation and ambient temperature, simplifying models and enhanceing performance. SVR's ability to predict exergy efficiency aids in optimizing SAH characteristics, reducing irreversibilities. This study demonstrates SVR's effectiveness in enhancing SAH efficiency, guiding design, and expanding applications. Future research should scale up SVR based TBSAH applications, explore novel materials, geometries, and energy storage integration, improving versatility and usability.Deanship of Research and Graduate Studies at King Khalid University [RGP2/306/45]The authors extend their appreciation to the Deanship of Research and Graduate Studies at King Khalid University for funding this work through Large Research Project under grant number RGP2/306/45

The solar radiation value carries important information about the amount of energy we can obtain from the sun, and predicting the future value of radiation is necessary for proper planning. In this context, various prediction models have been developed, and recently, hybrid models developed to take advantage of the strengths of different models have come to the forefront. This study examines the success of different hybrid model formation strategies in solar radiation prediction. Two regression models (AR and RIDGE) and two artificial intelligence methods (Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Elman Neural Network (ENN)) were selected as reference methods. Four different hybrid models were created using different hybrid model formation strategies from these four methods. Solar radiation data were first modeled individually using each method and then the same process was carried out using the created hybrid models. The results obtained with the hybrid models were compared both with each other and with the results obtained from individual models, and their performances were evaluated. © 2025, Gumushane University. Disasters that occur as a result of natural or human-made hazards can cause significant loss of life. Ensuring that disaster victims have safe access to temporary shelter areas after a disaster constitutes an important stage of disaster management. Shelter areas are temporary settlements where houses of people are destroyed or damaged after a disaster and residents will stay until their permanent homes are built. In the present study, the adequacy, usability and accessibility of temporary shelter areas for the total population in the central district of Afyonkarahisar were examined on a neighbourhood scale. There are a total of 105 assembly and 17 temporary shelter areas where tent and container can be established in Afyonkarahisar. The size of temporary shelter areas, service area, spatial standards and proximity to residential areas were analysed. According to the network analysis results, 57.5% of the total population lives within 500 m of assembly and temporary shelter areas. At the neighbourhood scale, the accessibility of the total population to temporary shelters varies depending on the spatial distribution of assembling and sheltering areas. © 2025 Afet ve Acil Durum Yonetimi Baskanligi (AFAD). Get PDF
Amyloid arthropathy, which negatively affects animal welfare by causing various health problems in brown laying hens, is a pathological phenomenon that occurs when amyloid A (AA) protein accumulates in the leg joints and serum amyloid A (SAA), the precursor of AA protein, forms permanent amyloid fibrils. This study aimed to evaluate the SAA production at the 24th and 48th h by enzyme-linked immunosorbent antibody assay (ELISA) in culture medium and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) after the induction of chicken embryonic synovial fibroblasts (CESF) with different doses of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), interleukin-1(3 (IL-1(3) and vitamin A. Hemacolor staining, immunocytochemistry, and carbon powder uptake test were performed to characterize the isolated CESF in the study. A statistically significant increase was observed in SAA mRNA expression in all groups at the 24th and 48th h, except the group induced with vitamin A for 48 h, while no increase was detected in the SAA level by ELISA. In the qPCR results, the highest increase among the 24-hour groups was 2604.5 +/- 476 in the LPS (10 mu g/mL) + IL-1(3 (30 ng/mL) applied group, while the highest increase among the 48-hour groups was 1577.4 +/- 326.4 in the LPS (5 mu g/mL) + IL-1(3 (50 ng/mL) + Vitamin A applied group. The results have shown that SAA expression in CESF is particularly dependent on LPS concentration, with IL-1(3 and vitamin A being less effective CESF from the brown layer hen embryos proved to be a suitable study model for amyloid arthropathy.Afyon Kocatepe University Scientific Projects Research Coordination Unit [20.SAG.BIL.36]; Afyon Kocatepe University, Health Sciences InstituteThis study was supported by the Afyon Kocatepe University Scientific Projects Research Coordination Unit (20.SAG.BIL.36) and was taken from the PhD thesis of Belma Dayi (2023-014) of Afyon Kocatepe University, Health Sciences Institute.
