PoznańComputational modelling with multi-agent systems has become an important technique in studying language evolution. We present a brief introduction into this rapidly developing field, as well as our own contributions, which include an analysis of the evolutionary naming game model. In this model, communicating agents, which try to establish a common vocabulary, are equipped with an evolutionarily selected learning ability. Such a coupling of biological and linguistic ingredients results in an abrupt transition: upon a small change of the model control parameter, a poorly communicating group of agents with small learning abilities transforms into almost perfectly communicating group of agents with large learning abilities. Genetic imprinting of the learning abilities progresses through the Baldwin effect: initially linguistically unskilled agents learn a language, which creates a niche where there is an evolutionary pressure for the increase of learning ability. Under the assumption that communication intensity increases continuously with finite speed, the transition is split into several transition-like changes. It shows that the speed of cultural changes, that sets an additional characteristic time scale, might be yet another factor affecting the evolution of language. In our opinion, this model shows that linguistic and biological processes have a strong influence on each other and this influence certainly has contributed to an explosive development of our species

PoznańIn this article, we both presented the concept of coherent and squeezed stochastic vacuum and simultaneously specified the way to calculate resonant fluorescent spectrum in two- or three-level system with configuration Λ in the presence of squeezed stochastic vacuum. The effects that occurred in the presence of squeezed stochastic vacuum were the change of both the width and the height of central spectrum and of additional narrow peaks. The impacts of squeezed vacuum on fluorescence spectrum represent the dependence on the squeezed parameter of both amplitude and phase. In the absence of unsqueezed vacuum, fluorescent spectrum returns to normal Mollow spectral type

PoznańThe Zipf-Mandelbrot power law and its connection with the inhomogeneity of the system has been used. We describe the statistical distributions of the domain masses in the Ising model near the phase transition induced by the temperature. For the large domain masses we observe the characteristic irregularities. The statistical distribution near the critical point appears to be of the Pareto type

PoznańThe primary intention of this paper is to present the results of several cases where the FPGA technology was used for high performance calculations. We gathered applications that had been developed over the last couple of years. Over this period of time we observed that there had been a rapid growth of interest in the utilization of FPGA for HPC. Basing on our expertise we give selected metrics, results and conclusions which, in our opinion, are important for anyone who is interested in FPGA as an alternative for faster computations. A brief description of the characteristics of FPGA and FPGA usage for acceleration are also included for novices on the subject
