Hybrid methodology for predicting hypertension in patients with dyslipidemia and type 2 diabetes mellitus
This study uses statistical computational methods to model hypertension in patients with dyslipidemia and type 2 diabetes. A retrospective analysis of 39 patients from Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia identified key factors like blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol. A hybrid model combining bootstrap, logistic regression, and neural networks achieved 99.99% accuracy with a MAD of 0.0001. Eight factors were significantly associated with hypertension, demonstrating the model’s high predictive power and reliability for risk assessmen
Navigating currency crises: how developed nations ensure liquidity and what Indonesia can learn? The role of Islamic finance
This study critically examines the dynamics of currency liquidity across developed economies during the 2001 and 2009 financial crises and the COVID-19 pandemic, assessing the efficacy of policy responses in mitigating economic disruptions. By employing Welch’s unequal variancet-test, Variable Lag Granger Causality (VLGC), Variable Lag Transfer Entropy (VLTE), and time-frequency coherence analysis, we uncover significant disparities in liquidity conditions, revealing that currency liquidity during the COVID-19 crisis surpassed that of prior financial crises. Our findings further expose nonlinear causal relationships between monetary policy indices and currency liquidity, with short-term COVID-19 effects exerting a more pronounced influence than long-term impacts. Beyond diagnostic analysis, this study challenges conventional crisis response frameworks by introducing Islamic finance as a viable policy alternative for emerging economies, particularly Indonesia. We argue that Islamic financial mechanisms—rooted in risk-sharing and asset-backed principles—can enhance aggregate demand and stabilize exchange rates during systemic shocks. As the first comparative analysis of exchange rate behavior across health and financial crises involving the USD, GBP, and JPY, this research fills a critical gap in the literature while offering actionable policy prescriptions for ASEAN economies. Our results compel a reevaluation of crisis management blueprints, emphasizing the need for adaptive monetary strategies and the underutilized potential of Islamic finance in fostering economic resilience. This study not only advances theoretical discourse but also provides policymakers with empirically grounded strategies to fortify financial systems against future disruptions
Foreign aid donation and the donor countries’ economic growth: an empirical study of OIC member countries
The Islamic worldview mandates Islamic countries to show benevolence, through foreign aid donations, towards their foreign counterparts experiencing poverty and deprivation. However, Islamic countries are faced with a possible conflict of interests in their attempt to show benevolence to their vulnerable foreign counterparts, and to pursue the achievement of economic growth concurrently. This study aims to investigate whether such a conflict of interests exist by estimating the impact of foreign aid donation on the donor countries’ economic growth, using Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries as a case study. The Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) technique was employed to analyze data of eleven OIC member countries spanning 2016 to 2020, based on an augmented Cobb-Douglas production model. The results indicate that foreign aid donation has no significant impact on the donor countries’ economic growth. Foreign aid policies of the respective governments should consider increasing the countries’ foreign aid expenditures, in order to assist many deprived countries whose economic sustainability depends on international development assistanc
Effects of financial inclusion on financial attitudes, financial behaviour and financial literacy among university students: empirical evidence from Malaysia and Turkiye
The issue of financial inclusion affecting university students is critical because it may lead to financial distress, which has a high impact on their daily lives. This, in turn, will have high consequences on the results of their studies. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship of three variables, namely financial attitudes, financial behaviour and financial literacy and financial inclusion among university students in Malaysia and Türkiye. A survey of 277 university students in the international Islamic University of Malaysia and 174 university students in the University of Bingöl was carried out. Data analysis were processed through SPSS. The correlation results that financial attitude, financial behaviour, and financial literacy significantly explained the financial inclusion response from the students in a university from both countries. Besides, the r2 also presented that all three variables explained the financial inclusion among the university students by 86.5%. Meanwhile, from the separate regression analysis, the correlation of financial attitude, financial behaviour and financial literacy with the financial inclusion were deemed higher among Turkish students compared to Malaysia students. Nevertheless, financial literacy was significantly explaining the
financial inclusion among the students in both countries. Hence, the regulators should focus on increasing financial literacy

Dust off the dirt of laziness and break the shackles of the Dunya’: the language of female extremists in Daesh (ISIS) propaganda magazines
Taking a discourse historical approach to critical discourse studies, this study examines the narratives of female members of Daesh, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), in online propaganda magazines. It discusses four themes: female members’ motivations for joining Daesh and the vulnerabilities that led them to do so; challenges female recruits have faced when travelling to the conflict zone; mistakes and transgressions committed by the female audience; and directives and recommendations to this audience, outlining their expected roles and responsibilities. Findings include the prevalence in this discourse context of discussions about discrimination and calls to abandon past beliefs, values, and practices. This study’s results provide insight into how the public, especially women, can be lured into joining violent, extremist causes, and may be useful in efforts to prevent violent extremism, ultimately aiding in the promotion of societal resilience against extreme ideologies
The concept of Islamic governance according to HAMKA’s thought
The absence of Islamic governance has brought various implications and challenges to the Muslim societies. Therefore, it is timely and relevant to discuss the need for Islamic governance as an effort to create a societal framework that aligns with Islamic values and principles. This paper explores the concept of Islamic governance according to HAMKA’s perspective which can be considered a significant contribution to the field of Islamic political thought. Although HAMKA did not outline a detailed blueprint for Islamic governance, he proposed its core principles in a holistic manner which include shura, social justice, ethical leadership, and social wellbeing. This study employs a qualitative method based on library research. The data were obtained through various sources, including books, manuscripts, articles, and documents relevant to the topic. The study found that HAMKA’s approach to Islamic governance reflects his attempt to harmonize traditional Islamic principles with the needs and challenges of modern times. His ideas were characterized by his understanding of Islam and his observations of the cultural and historical context of his societ

Contemporary issues in Islamic law and social practices: gender roles, legal perspectives and family dynamics
Qiwamah, a foundational concept in Islamic teachings, plays a pivotal role in shaping family dynamics by emphasizing male guardianship, stewardship, and responsibilitywithin the family unit. Rooted in the Qur'an and Hadith, qiwamah entrusts men with the roles of providers, protectors, and maintainers, ensuring financial stability, social cohesion, and harmonious family life. However, this principle is often misunderstood, with critics arguing that it perpetuates gender inequality. This book critically examines the concept of qiwamah, offering insights into its intended purpose of fostering cooperation and balance between spouses, while dispelling misconceptions of male dominance. Through real-life examples, scholarly discussions, and analysis of contemporary challenges, this book explores how qiwamah can be implemented in today's diverse world to promote mutual respect, family well-being, and societal harmony. This book is essential reading for scholars, policymakers, and anyone interested in understanding how qiwamah can be applied to strengthen family institutions and contribute to the broader social fabric.
