The mediating role of Shariah compliance in the acceptance of Islamic credit cards: evidence from Malaysia
This study examines the mediating role of Shariah compliance in the acceptance of Islamic
credit cards (ICCs) among customers in Malaysia. The primary objective is to assess how
customer knowledge, perceived financial cost, and perceived advantage influence the
acceptance of ICCs, and whether these relationships are mediated by perceptions of Shariah
compliance. A quantitative research approach was adopted, involving the collection of survey
data from 220 ICC users. Data were analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation
Modelling (PLS-SEM) to evaluate both direct and indirect relationships. The empirical
findings indicate that perceived advantage and Shariah compliance exert significant direct
effects on ICC acceptance, while customer knowledge and financial cost do not exhibit direct
statistical significance. Notably, Shariah compliance significantly mediates the relationships
between all three independent variables and ICC acceptance. These results emphasize the
pivotal role of Shariah compliance in shaping customer acceptance of Islamic financial
products. The study contributes to the theoretical discourse on Islamic customer behaviour and
offers practical insights for financial institutions aiming to enhance the adoption of Shariahcompliant
credit products in Malaysia

Navigating waqf management in Nigeria: a review of colonial legacies, legal reforms, and beneficiary rights
This article examines the complexities of waqf management in Nigeria, focusing on colonial legacies, legal reforms, and the rights of beneficiaries. Waqf, a religious endowment under Islamic Law, has a rich history in Nigeria dating back to pre-colonial times. Findings show that colonialism has significantly hindered the growth and efficiency of waqf institutions, leaving many in disarray by the time of Nigeria's independence. Despite efforts to revive these institutions post-colonization, issues such as lack of transparency, accountability, and formal structures persist. This trend has contributed to the marginalization of waqf beneficiaries and affected waqf administration in Nigeria, particularly in Western Nigeria, where government support is minimal. This study adopts a qualitative methodology, relying on secondary sources such as historical documents, legal texts, and scholarly articles to explore the legal and administrative system in the Nigerian waqf sector. This article highlights the necessity for a robust legal framework and the establishment of formal waqf bodies to enhance waqf sustainability and beneficiary rights. It advocates for a rights-based approach to waqf governance, emphasizing the need for beneficiaries to participate actively in decision-making processes to protect their interests
Optimizing solar streetlight systems for sustainable urban and community development
Solar streetlight systems, powered by photovoltaic panels, are increasingly adopted as sustainable alternatives
to conventional streetlights due to their environmental, economic, and operational advantages. They reduce
dependency on non-renewable energy, lower electricity costs, and extend system lifespan, making them highly
relevant for urban and community development. Despite these benefits, their efficiency and feasibility are often
constrained by battery size and weight. Large batteries not only increase material and installation costs but also
demand specialized handling equipment, which complicates deployment and maintenance. Addressing this
challenge requires an optimized approach that balances performance with cost-effectiveness. This study presents
the design and evaluation of a solar streetlight system incorporating an optimized battery size supported by
improved energy management strategies. The research involved determining the optimal tilt angle of the solar
panel to maximize power generation under varying environmental conditions. Additionally, a smart LED control
algorithm was developed to minimize energy consumption by dynamically adjusting light output based on
demand and availability of stored energy. Through these enhancements, the system effectively reduced energy
wastage, leading to the identification of the most efficient and practical battery capacity. The findings
demonstrate that optimizing both energy generation and consumption not only reduces reliance on oversized
batteries but also lowers installation complexity and costs. Such advancements highlight the potential of solar
streetlight systems as scalable, sustainable solutions for urban and community development. Ultimately, the
proposed approach contributes to promoting greener infrastructure while ensuring long-term reliability and
affordability of public lighting systems
Deprived of the Islamic financing and lack of inclusion of Muslim populated states in India: an empirical study
Introduction: Financing is the backbone of economic growth. It serves as the lifeblood of any business. However, any financial exclusion, especially Islamic financing exclusion driven by a socio-economic and political purpose to deprive of certain segment of society due to suspicion of terrorism or suppressions by state, makes a difference. In fact, these are banking services and financing facilities originally intended to provide socio-economic benefits to the overall citizenry and the general public, but they have certain limitations in policy prescriptions. It is crucial to make the availability of financial services the leading and primary objective of the public policy, and not discriminate on the basis of ones’ social status, caste, religio, or wealth. In March 2005, the former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, an architect of modern Indian economic revilism who passed away recently, appointed a high-level committee to prepare a report on the social, economic, and educational status of Indian Muslims, under the chairmanship of Justice Rajendra Sachar. The Sachar Report is considered the most valuable document that delves into the social, economic, and educational status of the Muslim community of India. The findings of this report revealed a shocking testimony to decades of institutional neglect and bias that have left the Indian Muslims far behind other Socio-Religious Communities, in the fields of education, employment, access to credit, and other social and physical infrastructure. The Indian banking sector has evolved over the years in terms of performance and complexity. Despite this development and growth, a large number of people have limited access to the financial services offered by financial institutions.
Methods: The concern on which this study is based is the increasing financial exclusion among the Indian population generally and the Muslims in India specifically. In this novel study, we utilized panel data covering 14 Muslim-populated Indian regions (13 states and 1 Union Territory) from 2009 to 2016 to assess the factors influencing financial inclusion in terms of credit and deposit penetration.
Results: By employing an explicit econometric model for panel data, it is found that the number of banking offices, per capita net state domestic product, outstanding liabilities, social sector expenditure, number of employees, and interest payments are some of the factors that influence financial inclusion.
Conclusion and suggestion: This study will benefit the policymakers, state and government officials, society in general, especially Muslim populations in the relevant areas of Republic of Indi
Evaluating culinary students’ safety awareness through pre- and post-test assessment of immersive hazard learning exposure
Commercial kitchens pose significant occupational risks, with a high incidence of staff injuries due to the dynamic and hazardous nature of the work. Traditional safety training often falls short in preparing workers for these real-world scenarios due to its passive, classroom-based approach. To bridge this critical gap, this study developed a mobile-based 360° panoramic immersive learning platform aimed at improving hazard awareness in commercial kitchen environments. The research contribution is a novel, accessible, and highly effective safety training solution that leverages immersive technology to address a long-standing challenge in occupational safety. The system was implemented using Unity3D, incorporating high-resolution 360° images captured with an Insta360 ONE X2 camera, and was accessible via both immersive (Google Cardboard VR) and non-immersive mobile modes. A quantitative methods approach involving 30 culinary students was used to evaluate system usability and training effectiveness. Usability testing showed strong performance across all dimensions (use, learnability, efficiency, and satisfaction), with mean scores from 4.27 to 4.70 out of 5, indicating the application was intuitive and efficient. Pre- and post-test comparisons revealed a substantial improvement in hazard identification, with average scores increasing from 29.33 to 83.67, demonstrating significant learning gains and competency standardization. Furthermore, 73.3% of participants preferred the immersive VR mode for enhanced spatial awareness, while 26.7% favored the non-immersive option for its accessibility. These findings underscore the potential of 360° panoramic immersive learning as a practical, engaging, and scalable solution for safety training in commercial kitchen
Significance of the conceptual utility model for pain management mobile apps: clinicians’ and older adults’ perspectives
Pain management mobile apps can be an effective tool for treating chronic pain. We had proposed a conceptual utility model to evaluate the comprehensiveness of pain management mobile applications with respect to their functional requirements. This research aims to identify clinicians’ and older adults’ perspectives in relevance to the proposed conceptual utility model of pain self-management mobile applications. Two rounds of focus group discussions with 16 medical doctors, and a questionnaire survey among 40 older adults were conducted to gather the relevant information. The study resulted in the older adults’ specific guidelines, recommendations, and suggestions for implementing pain self-management mobile applications at the component or sub-component level of the conceptual utility model. The proposed conceptual utility model was well-accepted by both clinicians and older adults, which further validated and affirmed the significance of the proposed conceptual utility model. © The Author(s) 2025
Performance evaluation of asphalt mixture incorporating Polyethylene Terephthalate
Environmental and economic benefits have led to an increase in the use of
waste materials like Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) in asphalt binder manufacture.
Pavement distress occurs when the asphalt surface layer does not retain its original
shape, due to demands placed on the material by traffic, temperature changes, and sun
exposure. Road construction includes producing asphalt pavements, which usually
involve the use of bituminous binders. This study included a comparative analysis
and laboratory tests on the qualities of PET asphalt mixes versus traditional asphalt
mixtures. The tests performed included sieve analysis, Los Angeles Abrasion Value
(LAAV) testing, Aggregate Crushing Value (ACV) testing, penetration testing, soft
ening point testing, and the Marshall Stability test. The experiment used PEN 60/
70 bitumen grade with five different PET mix percentages (0, 1, 3, 5, and 7%) by
weight of the bitumen. The results showed that adding PET to bitumen enhances its
engineering properties and the performance of asphalt mixtures. The study found
that the optimal PET content in bitumen is 7% by replacement weight, as it offers
higher stability and stiffness compared to the control sampl
