MAO was established in 1987 (as Montgomery AIDS Outreach, Inc.) to provide care for individuals living with AIDS and to educate the greater community about AIDS and HIV. Over the next three decades, its programs and services expanded into twelve counties, with hubs in Montgomery, Selma, and Dothan. In 2017, the organization changed its name again to Medical Advocacy and Outreach
