DyVProMo - A Lightweight Web-Based Tool for the Dynamic Visualization of Additional Information in Business Process Models

Business process models represent detailed information regarding the documentation, optimization, and automation of organizational processes. With an increasing level of detail, such models become rapidly complex, thus hindering their correct comprehension (i.e., both, the efficiency and accuracy of understanding decrease). Furthermore, once a process model is created, the view on it and the respective level of detail remains rigid for all stakeholders. However, a process model may contain information, which is less relevant for certain stakeholders (e.g.,domain experts). Consequently, the comprehension of process models becomes more difficult, as all information in a model needs to be read. Existing modeling systems do not offer the functionality to dynamically change the level of detail of a process model according to the stakeholders’ preferences. To address this issue, the work at hand presents the Dynamic Visualization of Process Models (DyVProMo), a lightweight web-based tool that enables the dynamic visualization of information in process models expressed in terms of the Business Process Model and Notation 2.0

Health Software: How to Develop an eHealth Platform in Compliance with Legal Regulations

    No full text
The advancing digitization of medical technology, in terms of medical devices but also health software, is bringing about several innovations in the healthcare sector. More and more medical practices and hospitals are using various software products and apps to analyze and evaluate diagnostic findings. For users and operators, it is important to know whether the product is considered as a medical device or as health software. If it is a medical device or health software, the laws and regulations that apply to medical devices must be observed. This bachelor thesis explains when software is considered as a medical device and the legal requirements that have to be fulfilled. The aim is to explain the most important laws, standards and directives and then give a ”harmonized approach” that covering all. The important aspects of the respective laws and standards have been summarized and described. Furthermore, the approach described in this thesis is exemplarily worked through with the eSano software. eSano is an eHealth platform that provides online support for therapeutic care. Online therapy is delivered through the use of internet and mobile-based interventions (IMIs) and patients are able to carry out these interventions

Literature-based requirements analysis review of persuasive systems design for mental health applications

Mental health problems are becoming more common while access to treatment is often not available to everyone who needs help. Recent advances in information technology, the wide availability of the internet, the emergence of smartphones and their common usage worldwide raise hope for more treatment options for mental health disorders. Many mobile phone apps that claim to assist in treating a variety of mental health disorders are already available, and the number of such apps continues to increase. The availability of such apps raises many questions about their effectiveness, suitable treatment methods, possibilities for use alongside traditional treatment methods, possible risks and other uncertainties. Beside mobile apps, internet-based apps are also being introduced with similar sets of challenges and ambiguities. One area of research that is gaining a lot of attention recently is Persuasive System Design and Behavior Change. Persuasive System Design is considered one solution that has the potential to help solve the challenges of lack of user motivation and adherence when utilizing mental health applications. The goal of this paper is to perform a literature review, in order to determine the most essential requirements for a persuasively designed mental health application. As part of this process, the challenges and requests of the end-user will be taken into account in order to make recommendations for the future design of such applications

Conception and Design of an Intuitive and Comprehensive Process Modeling Notation

    No full text

Towards the Applicability of Measuring the Brain Activity in the Context of Process Model Comprehension

    No full text
The graphical user interface (GUI) has become the most important and widely used means for human-machine interaction; it also guarantees the perception and usability of the software. Although testing this area is indispensable to ensure the software’s proper functioning, the graphical user interface is tested most of the time manually. However, this process takes too long and requires much effort on the part of the employees, and therefore cannot be repeated as often as necessary. This bachelor thesis is performed in an industrial environment and aims to improve the efficiency of the software company in means of time and cost. Consequently, an automated GUI test suite is conceived and implemented with the aides of a tool named "Squish.

Conception and Implementation of a Validation Component for the BPMN-Generator

For the modeling of business processes the Business Model and Notation (BPMN) 2.0 can be used. To examine the comprehension of BPMN models studies are conducted. To facilitate the preparation of the studies a tool, the so called BPMN-Generator, for the automatically generation of BPMN models has been designed and implemented. The BPMN models generated from the BPMN-Generator only include a small subset of elements defined in the BPMN 2.0 standard. However, some studies require more complex BPMN models. Accordingly, in the course of this thesis, the BPMN-Generator is expanded to also support the BPMN elements Pools and Lanes. For the studies to be successful, it is essential that the generated models comply with the BPMN standard. This thesis solves this problem by designing and implementing an additional component, which checks the BPMN models after the generation to comform with the BPMN 2.0 standard and shows an error screen, if the model is invalid

Ambalytics: A Scalable and Distributed System Architecture Concept for Bibliometric Network Analyses

A deep understanding about a field of research is valuable for academic researchers. In addition to technical knowledge, this includes knowledge about subareas, open research questions, and social communities (networks) of individuals and organizations within a given field. With bibliometric analyses, researchers can acquire quantitatively valuable knowledge about a research area by using bibliographic information on academic publications provided by bibliographic data providers. Bibliometric analyses include the calculation of bibliometric networks to describe affiliations or similarities of bibliometric entities (e.g., authors) and group them into clusters representing subareas or communities. Calculating and visualizing bibliometric networks is a nontrivial and time-consuming data science task that requires highly skilled individuals. In addition to domain knowledge, researchers must often provide statistical knowledge and programming skills or use software tools having limited functionality and usability. In this paper, we present the ambalytics bibliometric platform, which reduces the complexity of bibliometric network analysis and the visualization of results. It accompanies users through the process of bibliometric analysis and eliminates the need for individuals to have programming skills and statistical knowledge, while preserving advanced functionality, such as algorithm parameterization, for experts. As a proof-of-concept, and as an example of bibliometric analyses outcomes, the calculation of research fronts networks based on a hybrid similarity approach is shown. Being designed to scale, ambalytics makes use of distributed systems concepts and technologies. It is based on the microservice architecture concept and uses the Kubernetes framework for orchestration. This paper presents the initial building block of a comprehensive bibliometric analysis platform called ambalytics, which aims at a high usability for users as well as scalability
