The article presents an analysis of the history of the Zaporozhian Cossacks in selected textbooks on the history of the Ruthenian / Russian Church (1805–1917). Their authors – representing the Russian-Orthodox circles of oberprosecutors (Andrei Murawjow), “learned monks” (Platon Lewszyn, Filaret Gumilewski) and secular theological teachers (Piotr Znamieński, Aleksandr Dobrokłoński) – showed the history of Cossacks in various interpretive perspectives. They resulted from the source analysis, but more often – from the political and environmental affiliation of their authors. The article presents an analysis of the history of the Zaporozhian Cossacks in selected textbooks on the history of the Ruthenian / Russian Church (1805–1917). This paper deals with the issue of responsibility of a consecrated virgin for her formation, part of which is discernment in spiritual direction. It brings up the question of persons who can serve a consecrated virgin with spiritual guidance, namely the spiritual director, the permanent confessor, and the diocesan bishop. It discusses the sources of spiritual life, which are the Word of God, i.e., Scripture and Tradition, the spirituality of the consecrated virgin and liturgy, and the voice of the heart, in the aspect of spiritual direction. The issue of obedience and internal resistance in spiritual direction is addressed. The process of individual discernment as it relates to spiritual direction is also discussed

Insurance in the Light of Biblical Teaching

    No full text
This article deals with the contemporary topic of non-compulsory insurance, which is still controversial among Christians. Some Christians believe that using non-compulsory insurance is good, while others think it expresses a lack of belief in God or that using insurance is a sin. This study will show the reader that Biblical texts encourage prudent provision for more difficult times. The person, who does so, fulfills the obligation to perform acts of good will toward his neighbor

    No full text
Sexual abuse as a manifestation of personality disorders and a crime is shaped and committed in a specific social environment. The Institute for Catholic Church Statistics was the first in Poland to undertake systematic research on the problem of child sexual abuse. The scope of this research concerns the acts committed within Catholic organizations by priests and religious. In this chapter, we present Polish research on abuse and characterize the organizational framework of the Catholic Church in Poland. We highlight the public importance of research on child sexual abuse by priests. The focus of the chapter, however, is devoted to the methodological issues of quantitative sociological research on the sexual abuse of minors within Catholic organizations. We discuss the basic assumptions, methods and scope of collected data that concerns Poland. In an accessible and understandable way for a reader who has no knowledge of social sciences, we explain how the facts of child abuse by priests and religious are studied in Poland.Sexual abuse as a manifestation of personality disorders and a crime is shaped and committed in a specific social environment. Crisis management principles that have been in place and proven for decades by commercial companies and corporations, tested at great expense, apply equally to all non-commercial entities, governmental, religious, political, as well as to individuals. There is no deviation from them, as crises in today’s world are determined by the media, not the entity or institution itself. Every crisis can become an opportunity for change, strengthening, improvement, purification and even victory. The condition is a professional approach to the problem. A crisis can also be the beginning of the end, a failure. The biggest enemy of success in this situation is lack of knowledge how to act properly, mistakes in communication and management of resources. However, avoiding responsibility, hiding facts, manipulating information, being too quick and inconsiderate, resorting to falsehood, hypocrisy, and calculated behaviour will not facilitate success either. The article will analyse the institutional actions of the Catholic Church in Poland for the protection of children and adolescents in the context of the classical principles of crisis management applied in a crisis.Crisis management principles that have been in place and proven for decades by commercial companies and corporations, tested at great expense, apply equally to all non-commercial entities, governmental, religious, political, as well as to individuals.
