    Cafe on the Beach

    A view of the building that houses public bathrooms and Café on the Beach. The red and white umbrellas that mark the outdoor seating area can be see on the right. The restaurant is located at 4000 Gulf Drive on Anna Maria Island. The patio and restaurant look out onto the Manatee Public Beach. Café on the Beach was formerly known as Hobby's Café, run by Dick Hobson. This café and a concession stand at Coquina Beach were then turned over to P.S. Beach Associates in 1992. Co-owners Lorna Percifield and Gene Schaefer were awarded the contract to run these two beach concessions by the Manatee County Commission. Despite some trouble with paying rent to the county in 1998, they continued to run the spot until 2003 when it was taken over by Tom Vayias and John Menihtas. In July 2010 Café on the Beach changed management once again to United Park Services of Tampa and they renamed it Anna Maria Island Beach Café. The county-owned restaurant remains open today

    Restoring Stained Glass Windows at First Baptist Church

    Patty Cole (left) and her mother Patsy Windham (right) help with the window restoration project at First Baptist Church. Volunteers like these worked to restore 109 windows from the original church sanctuary. Each week they disassembled and cleaned the glass in the windows, then sent the pieces to stained glass artist Brad Smith to be re-assembled and brought back to the church. The window work went along with other renovations taking place to restore the church, located at 1306 Manatee Ave W in downtown Bradenton. The original building was built in 1912

    This image depicts the exterior façade of the 1926 Jennings Arcade at 417 12th St W in downtown Bradenton. Fav's Italian Cucina can be seen on the first floor of the building at the right. Perrine Plaza was located approximately where Jennings Arcade is today on Bradenton's Main Street, north of Manatee Avenue West. Originally built by F.M. and C.W. Jennings, the upper level contained offices and stores. The interior is an example of a Mediterranean Revival Arcade complete with original light fixtures suspended by wrought iron chains and wrought iron grillwork in the center of the building
