Curtiss Aviation School
The Curtiss Flying School was located at the point of Newport News next to the Small Boat Harbor. It was established in 1914. The school closed in 1922. The school was under the direction of Captain Thomas Scott Baldwin, a former balloon explorer
New City Hospital
This hospital opened in 1916 under the name Newport News General and Non-Sectarian Hospital. The name was changed to Riverside Hospital. The new hospital was financed by the City of Newport News, Citizens of Newport News and the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. It was located on Huntington Avenue and 50th Street
C & O Railroad Station, Pier and Elevator
The C & O Passenger Station and Pier were built in 1892. On the right stands Grain Elevator A. This elevator was built in 1883 with a capacity of 1.5 million bushels. Elevator A burned down in 1915
Washington Avenue, Looking South

On the second floor is a window with a sign indicating it as the law office of S. Otis Bland. The address being 2717 Washington Avenue. Schuyler Otis bland was a local attorney who served as a U.S. Congressman for the Newport News area from 1918 to his death on February 16, 1950. He was interred in Greenlawn Cemetery

New West Avenue Residential Section
West Avenue was named after George B. West, a local business man. Mr. West's family owned a great deal of farmland in the area that became downtown Newport News. In 1929 the Newport News Public Library building was built on this Avenue. The Library is there to this day under the name of West Avenue Library
