Behavioral impulses and the transmission channels of their impact on macroeconomic stability

    No full text
This study investigates the impact of behavioral impulses, specifically corruption perception and government effectiveness, on macroeconomic stability through fiscal transmission channels. A Vector Autoregression (VAR) model was used to analyze the impulse responses of key macroeconomic indicators, including tax revenues, state budget expenditures, and GDP per capita, to shocks in corruption perception and governance quality. The findings reveal that improvements in corruption perception initially boost tax revenues and economic growth but have diminishing effects over time, emphasizing the need for sustained policy enforcement. In contrast, government effectiveness has a delayed but more persistent impact on fiscal stability. The study challenges the greasing-the-wheels hypothesis, demonstrating that corruption weakens rather than facilitates economic efficiency. The study contributes to the literature on behavioral economics by demonstrating that public trust, shaped by corruption control and effective governance, plays a more pivotal role in maintaining macroeconomic stability than the previously acknowledged indicators of individual well-being.

Cutting Force Estimation in Sensor-Equipped Metal Cutting Tools Using Strain-Force Transfer Function

    No full text
Sensor-equipped cutting tools are becoming more common in the metal cutting industry as the demand for process monitoring and automation grows. These products are used for monitoring cutting forces and vibrations during machining with the objective of providing valuable insight into tool deflection, tool wear, surface finish, and process stability. The number of sensors and their position in the cutting tool, are often restricted by price and the thermo-mechanical loads acting in the cutting zone. Obtaining accurate measurements is a challenge due to mechanical filtering between the sensor positions and the tool tip as well as due to measurement noise from the sensors and electronics. This paper presents a method to estimate dynamic loads and tool tip vibrations using recorded data from strain sensors in a cutting tool. This is achieved through output-only calibration of an analytical model of the cutting tool, which defines the strain-force relationship based solely on the measured strain response data. This approach provides key parameters, including the first resonance frequency and the damping ratio of the cutting tool. The model is then applied to eliminate unwanted dynamic effects from the measured strain data, enhancing the accuracy of predictions of forces and tool tip displacement

    No full text

    No full text

    Architecture and Large-Scale Agile

    No full text
Agile methods are ideal for projects that are small to medium in scope. But applying them on a large scale brings lots of challenges to the picture. When team size expands, coordination, dependency management, and managing software architecture are challenging with evolving needs. This results in conflicts between agility and architectural stability. Recently, there has been a lot of interest in combining agile development with software architecture. But there was no comprehensive research on the architecture-agility combination with respect to large-scale agile. Further, previous studies have revealed gaps in roles and overlooked agile practices, methods, and tools while balancing architecture with agility. But they have not given much attention to large-scale agile contexts. So, this thesis explores the way architecture and agility are balanced in large-scale agile projects. The objective is to determine agile methods, practices, tools, and roles that aid architectural work in large-scale agile and to draw attention to obstacles that obstruct this balance. The thesis expands the systematic mapping study conducted by Yang et al. [1]  to cover literature between 2014 and 2025. Fifty-seven peer-reviewed studies were included in this SMS. Additionally, an industry survey was carried out with industry experts in large-scale Agile initiatives to gather practitioners’ insights. This study integrates insights from both SMS and surveys to ensure a balance between academic knowledge & practitioners’ real-world experiences. Grounded theory and descriptive statistics were used to synthesize the outcomes from both the SMS and the survey. The results demonstrate that Scrum, SAFe, and LeSS are extensively used scaling frameworks by large-scale agile organizations, and DevOps and Kanban are becoming much more popular in practice. These scaling frameworks are supported by various coordination practices, including Scrum of Scrums (SoS), Communities of Practice (CoPs), retrospectives, and architectural practices, including Architectural Roadmaps & Runway, as well as ADRs and Architectural Refactoring. But practitioners claim that the consistent application of these practices at scale is quite challenging. Wiki, Jira, Confluence, Slack, and dependency mapping tools extensively support architectural work in large-scale agile. Both SMS and survey results highlight that most of the tools are general-purpose, and dedicated tools for architectural decision-making, dependency visualization, and integration are still lacking. Architects act as mentors, knowledge brokers, coordinators, decision-makers, visionary leaders, governance enforcers, advisors, and technical enablers, and have shifted from a supervisor role to facilitator, highlighting the multifaceted and evolving nature of the architect role. Most Large-Scale agile companies follow a hybrid model while managing team autonomy with central alignment, but role ambiguity persists based on domain and context.  There are various architect role types, such as enterprise, solution, functional, and team architects. Their responsibilities are evolving, and sometimes they may overlap. Their roles and responsibilities change depending on the context and domain. Weak architectural governance, unclear roles of architects, coordination and communication challenges, and balancing emergent vs intentional are still recurring challenges in large-scale agile contexts. In order to strengthen architectural work in large-scale agile, this study offers an updated taxonomy of agile methods, practices, tools, and roles, and the latest recurring challenges faced by both researchers and practitioners. It presents valuable insights to both researchers and practitioners who require more study & industry practices to successfully balance architectural stability with the agility of large-scale agile contexts

Measuring the quality of generative AI systems : Mapping metrics to quality characteristics — Snowballing literature review

    No full text
Context: Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) have revolutionized tasks that previously required significant human effort, which has attracted considerable interest from industry stakeholders. This growing interest has accelerated the integration of AI models into various industrial applications. However, the model integration introduces challenges to product quality, as conventional quality measuring methods may fail to assess GenAI systems. Consequently, evaluation techniques for GenAI systems need to be adapted and refined. Examining the current state and applicability of evaluation techniques for the GenAI system outputs is essential. Objective: This study aims to explore the current metrics, methods, and processes for assessing the outputs of GenAI systems and the potential of risky outputs. Method: We performed a snowballing literature review to identify metrics, evaluation methods, and evaluation processes from 43 selected papers. Results: We identified 28 metrics and mapped these metrics to four quality characteristics defined by the ISO/IEC 25023 standard for software systems. Additionally, we discovered three types of evaluation methods to measure the quality of system outputs and a three-step process to assess faulty system outputs. Based on these insights, we suggested a five-step framework for measuring system quality while utilizing GenAI models. Conclusion: Our findings present a mapping that visualizes candidate metrics to be selected for measuring quality characteristics of GenAI systems, accompanied by step-by-step processes to assist practitioners in conducting quality assessments.

Identifying the needs of low-income angioplasty patients and caregivers to inform the design of a support platform

    No full text
This research investigates the needs and preferences of low-income angioplasty patients and their caregivers in India during post-angioplasty recovery. Through in-depth interviews and contextual inquiries, the study uncovers critical informational, physical, and emotional needs. Patients often lack access to reliable health information, leading to misconceptions about care and medication adherence. Pain management and emotional support are significant concerns for both patients and caregivers. The study proposes the integration of digital health solutions to address these challenges, providing a platform for reliable information, communication, and support. This research emphasizes the need for context-sensitive interventions to improve patient outcomes and enhance the quality of life for vulnerable populations in developing countries

Benchmarking Recovery Methods for Adversarial Traffic Signs in Autonomous Driving

    No full text
Autonomous vehicles (AVs) depend critically on vision-based perception systems, with traffic sign classification (TSC) playing a crucial role in interpreting regulatory and warning signs for safe navigation. However, these systems are highly vulnerable to adversarial attacks, subtle input perturbations that deceive deep learning models while appearing benign to human drivers. While detection has been the primary focus of defense, recovery of adversarial perturbed signs remains significantly underexplored, despite its importance for maintaining real-time decision-making and operational safety. To bridge this gap, we present the first comprehensive benchmarking of state-of-the-art image classification recovery methods adapted to the traffic sign domain. We address three domain-specific challenges for autonomous driving: (1) robustness to real-world conditions (e.g., weather, occlusion), (2) latency compatible with real-time pipelines (100 ms), and (3) preservation of geometric/structural integrity. Our adaptations combine weather-resilient preprocessing, shape-preserving restoration, and latency-aware implementation. Under unified white-box attacks, we evaluate across TSRD, BTSC, and GTSRB using recovery rate (RR), structural similarity (SSIM), and recovery time (RT). To connect latency to function, we introduce the recovery-induced distance (RID), which maps recovery time (RT) to added travel distance. PuVAE, VAE, c-GAN, and CD-GAN achieve subfewmillisecond RT with (Formula presented.) of the nominal braking distance; DIR remains within (Formula presented.) 0.3% at (Formula presented.), CSC is (Formula presented.) 1.9%–3.3%, and DiffPure incurs 150–165 ms latency, yielding (Formula presented.) 8%–10% at (Formula presented.) (multi-meter delay), thus violating real-time constraints ((Formula presented.))). Cross-dataset transfer on shared classes shows that VAE-based method generalizes better than GAN-based while maintaining timing safety. Overall, PuVAE offers the best accuracy–latency trade-off. These findings provide practical guidance for deploying recovery as a real-time, safety-aligned complement to detection in AV perception. CISSAN – Collective Intelligence Supported by Security Aware Node
