Leadership Strategies for Robotic Surgery Adoption : A Case Study of Oslo University Hospital
Background: Hospitals can benefit from robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) technology because it delivers better surgical outcomes compared to open surgery and quick patient recovery times and improved operating conditions for medical staff. The adoption of this technology faces numerous challenges in hospitals because it requires substantial financial investment, and clinicians remain sceptical about its implementation. Purpose: This thesis investigates the ways through which hospital leadership can tackle the human and organizational challenges that departments face before starting to use RAS. Method: The research used a qualitative case study design at The Intervention Centre located at Oslo University Hospital in Norway. The research team conducted nine semi-structured interviews with clinicians and engineers and administrators. The analysis followed the Gioia methodology and thematic analysis to generate inductive insights. Results and analyses: The research identified six primary obstacles which included financial constraints together with unorganized training programs and inconsistent institutional backing and inadequate infrastructure and clinical staff doubts. Implementing leadership strategies such as inclusive planning, transparent communication, and interdisciplinary training helped build trust and improved adoption rates. The research community recognized RAS as a strategic asset which would boost institutional reputation and increase research activity. Conclusions: The successful implementation of RAS needs more than technology acquisition because it requires hospital departments to work together under coordinated leadership with cultural alignment and sustained commitment. The successful implementation of RAS depends on building trust, inclusive decision-making processes, and long-term financial planning to establish RAS as an institutional practice. Recommendations for future research: Future research needs to analyse RAS adoption across different healthcare institutions while gathering patient feedback to achieve a complete understanding of healthcare technology transformations.
Artificial intelligence has become part of everyday life for most people, either directly or indirectly. More and more companies are seeing the benefits of including language models in various applications, and at the same time, research shows that this indeed is a way to increase turnover. The purpose of this study is to investigate how a language model and an SMS API can be implemented together in a system, to enable more efficient communication between selling companies and their customers. In addition, the study aims to clarify how order information can be presented so that it is both easy to understand and easy to overview. A requirements and development-based method is used to design and implement a prototype that includes both an API and a language model. A test group is used to test the prototype in an order scenario, after which they answer a survey to summarize their experiences. A literature study is conducted to provide a better understanding of how data can be presented in the given scenario. The study shows that in-context prompting in a structured manner is a beneficial method for extracting information from SMS, which can then be interpreted and responded to. At the same time, the literature review shows that there is a lack of consensus on how data should be presented, as individual preferences make it difficult to give a general opinion. The study shows that it is possible to effectively integrate an SMS API with a language model, but that further work is necessary to ensure that spontaneous misinterpretations, for example, can be avoided. In addition, the study shows that further work is needed to provide a clear picture of how the data should be presented, and that this may require the use of methods beyond the current one
The role of key encapsulation mechanism in end-to-end encryption agility - a case for telemetry data confidentiality
The study outlined in this paper assesses the implementation of Attribute-Based Encryption as a key encapsulation mechanism, culminating in a proposed end-to-end encryption solution for a cloud-based IoT management system and further simulation ofmigration to Kyber Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) key encapsulation mechanism. Though extensively used for efficientlygathering and sharing video surveillance data, these systems also collect telemetry information, which includes sensitive data. Thispaper presents a comprehensive study that examines the current understanding, methodologies, and challenges associated withsupporting the End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) approach to ensure the confidentiality of telemetry data
Economic Analysis of Innovation & Technology in Sweden : Relevance of Swedish Paradox in 2025
This research investigates the Swedish Paradox in 2025, analyzing key factors of innovation and the imbalance between Sweden’s high innovation input and modest economic output. Despite being ranked among the top three most innovative countries for a decade, Sweden struggles with commercialization, as evidenced by historical trends and contemporary data between 2013 - 2022. Using quantitative and qualitative analysis, the research reveals that while R&D, STEM graduates, and Intellectual Property are significantly associated with the Global Innovation Index, GDP growth remains modest, confirming the continuance of the paradox. The survey findings identify a strong educational system and government policies as key innovation drivers but the subsequent economic rewards that are expected are constrained, majorly due to human capital constraints and an aversion to strong entrepreneurial culture. AI’s potential to enhance Sweden’s R&D value is promising, with opportunities in accelerated innovation cycles, although ethical concerns and skill gaps pose significant challenges. The research recommends sustaining educational strengths, streamlining policies, enhancing R&D commercialization, and fostering entrepreneurship to mitigate the paradox.
In modern web development, optimized performance and user experience are crucial to meet user expectations. This study explores how different data loading strategies affect the performance of Vue components when communicating with a Wagtail CMS. The objectives are to investigate and compare the performance between two different strategies for content loading in Vue components against Wagtail's standardized API: eager loading and lazy loading. By analyzing these strategies, the study intends to provide guidance for developers in choosing the optimal loading strategy based on usage context. Through the design science methodology, two implementations, eager and lazy loading, of the same functionality in Vue.js against Wagtail CMS are designed and evaluated. Systematic measurements of initial loading time, filtering time, number of network requests, and transferred data volume are performed under standardized test conditions. The results show that lazy loading provides 40.8% faster initial page loading, while eager loading offers approximately 400 times faster filtering response. After two user interactions, eager loading becomes 21.6% faster overall. In conclusion, the choice between eager loading and lazy loading should be based on the application's usage context. For applications where users perform few interactions per session, lazy loading is recommended, while eager loading is superior for applications with intensive user interaction.I modern webbutveckling är optimerad prestanda och användarvänlighet avgörande för att möta användarnas förväntningar.
The One-Shot illusion : Seamless Transitions in One-Shot Filmmaking
This thesis explores the concept of seamless transitions in one-shot films, focusing specifically on how these techniques enhance narrative continuity and flow. The research methodology employed combines an analysis of films utilizing the one-take technique, a systematic review of existing literature, and practical experimentation aimed at identifying and evaluating both traditional and innovative transition methods. An independent short film was produced to test a range of transitions in two stages: one utilizing camera movement during shooting, and the other relying on post-production techniques, all within a low-budget production context. To assess the effectiveness of these transitions in terms of duration, impact on storytelling, and audience engagement, structured questionnaires were used to collect empirical data. This study proposes a systematic analytical framework for transition techniques, intended to serve as a reference and practical guide for directors working with the one-take technique, particularly in limited or low-budget production settings. The thesis ultimately contributes to contemporary cinematic practice by offering a practical classification of seamless transitions and proposing ways in which these techniques can add narrative, aesthetic, and artistic valu
Improving Emergency Department Triage with AI : A Mixed-Methods Evaluation
Emergency departments (EDs) are under increasing pressure due to growing patient volumes, limited resources, and long waiting times. Accurate and efficient triage is essential for patient safety, but traditional systems like RETTS can vary in reliability, depending on the nurse’s assessment. This study explores whether an AI-based triage system can help address these challenges by supporting clinical decision-making. A prototype AI triage tool was developed using a large language model to simulate patient interactions and assign triage levels based on self-reported symptoms. The system was evaluated through 15 simulated cases and compared to assessments made by experienced triage nurses. The study combined a comparison of triage decisions with input and reflections from the nurses to assess the tool’s performance and usefulness. The results showed that the AI matched the nurses’ triage decisions in 10 out of 15 cases (66.7%). In the remaining cases, the AI tended to assign a higher urgency level, reflecting a safety-first approach. Nurses appreciated the tool’s structure and speed but noted limitations due to the lack of vital signs and non-verbal cues. This research suggests that AI-based triage tools have the potential to improve efficiency and patient prioritization in EDs. While the system cannot replace human judgment, it could serve as a valuable support tool, especially during busy periods. Further development and real-world testing are needed to assess how such systems could be integrated into everyday healthcare workflows
Model-Driven Design Decision Support Systems for Complex Engineering Systems : Challenges in Early-Design Stages
Early-stage design decisions in complex engineering systems play a critical role in defining the system’s lifecycle performance, cost, and viability. As engineering systems are becoming increasingly interconnected, cyber-physical and multi-disciplinary, traditional decision-making approaches based on historical data and expert judgments often fall short. To navigate the early-stage design decision challenges and support better decision-making, model-driven decision support systems have emerged as promising tools that allow for integration of simulations, optimization, and data-driven models. Yet, in the context of complex engineering systems, the effective implementation of decision support systems remains limited due to socio-technical challenges. This thesis systematically investigates and identifies challenges through a literature review and empirical case studies in an industrial setting. The research identified interrelated barriers that hinder effective decision support systems integration and utilization. First, difficulty in integrating heterogeneous simulation models across varying levels of granularity remains technically and methodologically challenging. Second, the uneven maturity level of decision support systems across engineering domains limits their consistent use in collaborative environments. Third, a lack of accessible and intuitive interfaces negatively impacts the usability for non-expert stakeholders. Fourth, the absence of a real-time feedback mechanism limits their function as a boundary object. Fifth, the lack of metrics to gauge and communicate model maturity and reliability creates risks for misinformed decisions. Lastly, the lack of lifecycle management, including evolution, traceability, and reliability of the underlying models, is rarely supported, which undermines long-term sustainability and trust in the decision support systems
Designing for Flow in Video Games
Modern research regarding immersion often prioritizes deducing the phenomenon to models or theories, such as the flow theory discussing deep enjoyment or the demographic game design model analyzing distinct types of player audiences. However what has been lacking is a use case for this research and discussions on identifying the needs designers should look for in games developed with the intent of immersing the player. That is why this article analyzes the extent one can create the conditions for flow through the lens of a designer producing a 2D platformer. The results of the artefact were compared to the purpose of the study through the discussion of the ways the game mechanics supported immersion (flow). The article discusses the implication of the game serving as an example of the mentality game designers should use to locate the criteria for their own media and playerbase. The article implies that while games have the potential to be immersive it is up to the designer and their understanding of flow to interpret how the experience best can create the conditions for flow for their users.
