Far‐Right Illiberalism in the European Parliament
Full text linkThe rise of illiberalism has become a global concern, especially since the establishment of far‐right illiberal regimes in countries such as Hungary, India, Poland, and Turkey. When in power, far‐right parties tend to promote democratic backsliding, leading to a proliferation of studies of the illiberal regimes established by the far‐right. Less attention has been paid so far to the embrace of illiberal ideas by these parties. Although studies of these parties' populism, nativism, and authoritarianism are ubiquitous, we know little about the way in which these three ideological pillars become integrated into an overarching illiberal agenda. This article aims to analyze the extent to which European far‐right parties embrace illiberal ideas, irrespective of whether they are in power. To pursue this objective, we focus on parliamentary speeches given by far‐right parties in the European Parliament between 1999 and 2019. Methodologically, we employ a dictionary‐based content analysis to identify which speeches by far‐right members of the European Parliament contain illiberal ideas. Subsequently, we measure the percentage of far‐right illiberal speeches per year. Our study shows that although illiberalism has always been a relevant feature of the far‐right, illiberal ideas have become more prominent in speeches of far‐right members of the European Parliament since 2017, after Brexit and the election of Trump
Soziale Arbeit als Akteurin im Kontext gesellschaftlicher Transformation: Wissensbestände und Erkenntnisse aus Profession und Disziplin
Full text linkGesellschaftliche Transformationsprozesse prägen aktuell die sozialen Lebensbedingungen grundlegend und erfordern von der Sozialen Arbeit als Profession und Disziplin strukturelle Antworten und Positionierungen. Die Autor*innen untersuchen diese Wandlungsprozesse, ordnen sie konzeptionell und analytisch ein und zeigen methodische Ansätze zur Gestaltung auf. Soziale Arbeit nimmt einerseits für sich in Anspruch, gesellschaftliche Wandlungsprozesse aktiv mitzugestalten, andererseits ist sie auch von gesellschaftlichen Transformationsprozessen betroffen. Soziale Arbeit hat dabei den Auftrag den Wandel in eine spezifische Richtung zu fokussieren. Soziale Arbeit ist dazu aufgerufen, den aktuellen Wandel und deren Triebkräfte und sozialen Dynamiken wissenschaftlich zu untersuchen und die konkreten Wandlungsprozesse konzeptionell zu beschreiben, methodisch zu begleiten und mit den Akteur:innen zu gestalten. Dabei muss sie sich der Herausforderung stellen, Entwicklungen auf subjektiver Ebene, auf der Ebene von Gruppen und auf der Ebene von Gemeinwesen in Richtung von Zusammenhalt, Empowerment und Befreiung, sozialer Gerechtigkeit, den Menschenrechten, einer kollektiv getragenen Verantwortung und der Achtung von Vielfalt und Diversität voranzutreiben und trotz vieler Entwicklungen hin zu Dystopien auch ihre utopischen Anteile nicht aus dem Blick verlieren
Umsetzung des Onlinezugangsgesetzes in kleinen Kommunen - Erfahrungen und Probleme
Full text linkDie Studie untersucht die Umsetzung des Onlinezugangsgesetzes auf Basis eines qualitativen Forschungsdesigns mit 19 Interviews in zwölf kleinen Kommunen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Umsetzung des OZG aufgrund begrenzter personeller und finanzieller Ressourcen, fehlender klarer Vorgaben von Bund und Ländern sowie unzureichender Kooperations- und Unterstützungsstrukturen erheblich hinter den gesetzlichen Zielvorgaben zurückbleibt

Siendo heterogéneo en sus enfoques y contenidos, es más que una suma contingente de artículos. Los trabajos que lo componen están atravesados por el interés común que generó entre sus autores la invitación a debatir sobre los desafíos que supone hacer sociología pública desde el sur. Sin desatender sus líneas de investigación, las diversas propuestas se suman a la interrogante respecto de qué significa hacer sociología pública y qué significa pensar desde el sur. Sabemos que las buenas preguntas posibilitan respuestas interesantes. Asimismo, las buenas invitaciones producen encuentros prolíficos
Russia's Economic Elites in Wartime: Winners, Losers, and Shifting Boundaries of Wealth and Power

Residents' Perception on the Authenticity of Christmas Markets in Transylvania: The Case of Cluj-Napoca

provide a suitable context for the analysis of authenticity. In such regards, we
conducted a survey among the visitors of the Christmas market held in ClujNapoca, Romania. The aim was to certify the authenticity of the elements of a
local event as perceived by the visitors representing the local urban community.
The analysis examined responses from 585 participants, exploring both qualitative and quantitative aspects. We identified seven key elements of authenticity
defining the Christmas market. The study found no statistically significant differences in the perception of authenticity according to the demographic profile of
the respondents.The overall opinion of the participants was that local traditional
elements should predominate in an authentic Christmas market.This study could
represent a ready-made tool for the decision-makers and event organisers, who
should consider a participatory approach when engaging in the organisation of
such events, ensuring the active involvement of the local community from the
design to the implementation stage
Gender biases in assistant professor recruitment: Does discipline matter?
Full text linkHigher education institutions have implemented various affirmative action policies aimed at increasing the representation of female professors, including measures to reduce gender bias in professorship appointments. This raises the question of whether gender bias still exists. Research on gender bias in assistant professor appointments remains sparse. We therefore examine whether gender bias in assistant professor recruitment exists and differs across disciplines (looking at mathematics/physics, economics/sociology/political science, and German studies). Our analysis is based on a factorial survey experiment with 1857 professors from German universities in 2020. We draw on Crandall and Eshleman's (2003) justification-suppression model to argue that gender policies can help suppress the expression of prejudices (negative stereotypes) against female applicants. Our results show that in all disciplines studied, female applicants receive higher ratings than male applicants, both for perceived qualification for an assistant professorship and for being invited for an interview. The female advantage is more pronounced in mathematics/physics when applicants are perceived to be equally qualified, suggesting a greater normative pressure to comply with gender-based preferential selection. In mathematics/physics, however, we also find a smaller premium for having received a research grant among female applicants. Overall, the observed female advantage is rather small in all disciplines studied
