Digital Archive from an Archaeological Evaluation at St. Mary's Garrison, St Mary's Island, Isles of Scilly, May 2006
This collection comprises reports, site images and records, CAD vector drawings, and spreadsheet data from an archaeological evaluation at St. Mary's Garrison, St. Mary's Island, Isles of Scilly. The works were undertaken by English Heritage between the 9th and 23rd May, 2006 as part of the conservation plan for the monument at risk of coastal erosion. Four trenches were excavated, three across the defensive bank and ditch, the other across a gun platform position. The excavations revealed that the breastwork and gun platform were of a single phase of construction, with some secondary modification to the gun platform outer wall. The defensive earthworks appear to be of Civil War origin, with little refashioning or rebuilding since built, and they thus represent a nationally important survival of 17th-century defensive earthworks
Digital Archive from Archaeological Geophysical Surveys on the Brede Levels at Winchelsea, East Sussex, August 2024
This collection consists of GIS, Geophysics and text from earth resistance and magnetometer surveys by MOLA Northampton. Work occurred on the Brede Levels at Winchelsea, East Sussex, in August 2024. MOLA's surveys, and earlier work identified a complex of building remains (probably a medieval 'Blackfriars' priory) in St Leonard's Marsh and a set of suspected medieval or post medieval plot boundaries in Road Field, near Crutches Farm. A sparse scatter of other archaeological features, including parts of a medieval sea wall were detected elsewhere within the survey
Digital Archive from an Archaeological Evaluation and Excavation at Bury Eastern Relief Road, Rushbrooke with Rougham, Suffolk, 2016-2017
This collection comprises site images, reports, spreadsheet data, and databases from an archaeological evaluation and subsequent excavations at the Bury Eastern Relief Road, Rushbrooke with Rougham, Suffolk. The works were undertaken by Suffolk Archaeology (now Cotswold Archaeology). The works were undertaken in March 2016 to September 2017. The trenched evaluation revealed a moderate density of archaeological features, primarily ditches and pits of Iron Age and Late Iron Age/early Roman date, and an area of likely late medieval and post-medieval activity. Based on these results, archaeological excavations in four separate areas along the proposed route were undertaken. Excavation of these four sites revealed features from the prehistoric period onwards. Features included, but were not limited to a dense concentration of Mid to Late Iron Age ditches and pits, a possible Late Iron Age/Early Roman roundhouse, two possible Late Iron Age/Early Roman four-post structures, and a trackway
