Digital Archive from an Archaeological Excavation at Gretton Road, Gotherington, Gloucestershire, 2020-2021
No full textThis collection comprises text, image, spreadsheet, database and GIS data from an archaeological excavation at Gretton Road, Gotherington, Gloucestershire. The programme of archaeological investigation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology between November 2020 and February 2021. An area of 1.2 hectares was excavated within the development site. The excavation revealed the remains of several sub-circular enclosures and a small number of pits and postholes. The majority of the features produced material of later Iron Age date, although the quantities of finds were relatively small

No full textThis collection consists of site images, a CAD vector drawing, and report from an archaeological evaluation at The Old Plough, High Green, Abbotsley, Cambridgehsire. Works were conducted by Albion Archaeology in February 2023.
The majority of the identified remains are likely associated with previous use as a car park, with hardcore make-up layers and drainage provided by land drains and soakaways. It is clear from surrounding ground levels that the level of the area has been significantly reduced during construction of the car park, particularly in its eastern and southern parts. This is likely to have destroyed the majority of any archaeological remains that might otherwise have survived

No full textThis collection comprises text documents and images from an analytical buildings record (Level 3) carried out by Colchester Archaeological Trust at 141 Thorpe Road, Kirby Cross, Frinton on Sea, Essex on October 21st, 2024. The aim of the building recording was to provide a detailed record and assessment of the buildings prior to conversion. 141 Thorpe Road lies on the southern side of Thorpe Road in Kirby Cross, 3 km west of Frinton-on-Sea. The semi-detached cottages set for demolition have historic origins, with a construction date of between 1866 and 1874. The buildings are timber-framed in construction and represent a good example of double-pile single-fronted cottages. Some probable original features survive, including doors, fire grates and sash windows

No full textThis collection consists of images, reports, vector graphics and site record data from a historic building recording and archaeological evaluation by Colchester Archaeological Trust. Work occurred was carried out on land to the rear of Colne Place, 97 High Street, Earls Colne, Essex, January 2024. The recording of the garden revealed four garden features; a wall, a gate with brick piers and two small sets of steps. Historic mapping indicates the garden was initially designed between 1839 and 1876 and the features added by 1896. A phase of archaeological evaluation was undertaken after the recording. Two trenches were excavated but neither revealed any archaeological remains, except a small quantity of finds recovered from the topsoil

No full textThis collection comprises images from Historic Building Recording of a barn at Stone Carrs, Westgate, Bishop Auckland, County Durham, in February 2024. The work was carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology Limited, who were commissioned by Ryder Architects on behalf of their client, to undertake a Level 2 historic building recording of the small, traditional farm building. The barn is identified as a non-designated heritage asset and the historic building recording was completed in advance of its conversion to holiday accommodation. The linear form of the farm at Stone Carrs, shown on the Tithe map for the Stanhope Parish Park Quarter, is typical of a small upland farm. Many such farms were established or improved following the inclosure acts of 1750-1850 which saw remaining open fields or wasteland brought into more efficient agricultural use. The barn subject to survey was added to the farm as a cow house or byre during the second half of the 19th century to house cattle for meat or dairy production

No full textThis collection consists of site images and records, GIS data, and a report from archaeological monitoring of remediation and repair works on sections of the embankment on the north side of the River Witham, Fiskerton, Lincolnshire, following slippage during Storm Babet in 2023. The works were conducted by Wessex Archaeology. Area 1 was monitored on the 10 October 2024. Area 2 was monitored on 22 November and 26 November 2024. No archaeological remains or deposits were revealed during the monitoring works. No archaeological remains or deposits were encountered during the remediation of the embankment. No excavations of the embankment proceeded deeper than the ground level at the base of the embankment

Despite being located within an area of cropmarks, the only features uncovered were an undated pit or tree-throw, three modern features (a pit, land drain and soakaway) and an area of rooting, along with three natural silt patches
