The evaluation revealed a modern field boundary ditch and associated drainage feature, a spread of post-medieval/modern debris, three undated ditches, and two undated tree-throws

This work was undertaken by Northern Archaeological Associates Ltd (NAA) in January 2018. The trial trenching was successful in assessing the archaeology present beneath the King Street car park and showed that both medieval and post-medieval remains are present within the top tier of the development

The Archaeological Monitoring observed no deposits or features of archaeological significance. Two sherds of pottery and three pieces of clay tobacco pipe were recovered from the topsoil, this may represent material originating from activity in the wider agricultural landscape during this period but may also have originated elsewhere and been brought to the site through imported topsoil

Work was carried out by South West Archaeology between September 2022 and February 2023. The building is Grade II listed and was redefined in the 18th century into a three-storey townhouse
