The attitude of farmers and other stakeholders towards farming is formed based on the way they have been treated by the agricultural extension and service delivery system. The present study was conducted among the beneficiary farmers of Agro Service Centres (ASCs) in Thrissur, Kannur and Kottayam districts of Kerala, India, representing the central, northern and southern Kerala. The sample of the study comprised 120 farmers i.e., 45 farmers from Thrissur, 45 farmers from Kannur and 30 farmers from Kottayam. Based on the analysis of data, it was observed that half of the respondents had a medium level of favourable attitude towards the service delivery system of Agro Service Centres. The result of Kruskal Wallis test indicated that there was significant differences in the attitude of farmer beneficiaries towards the service delivery system of Agro Service Centres among the three districts. The correlation analysis revealed that the attitude of beneficiaries towards the Agro Service Centre was positively and significantly correlated with farming experience, annual farm income, resource utilization, and change proneness and it was negatively and significantly correlated with risk orientation

    No full text
The main goals of silvopastoral production are to increase the quality and production of fodder and promote the conservation of soil and biodiversity. Despite its achievements as an approach, it has not been fully practiced by small holder farmers. The study sought to determine the factors influencing the adoption of silvopastoral production in Chikwaka communal area in Goromonzi district of Zimbabwe. Simple random sampling technique was used involving sixty-six respondents. Factors that affect adoption were estimated by binary logistic regression model. Variables that significantly affected the adoption of silvopastoral were land size, number of cattle owned as well as household size. The results revealed that uptake level of silvopastoral is still low . Therefore, the continuous effort to improve livestock herd under smallholder farmers through silvopastoral, should be taken as a priority to encourage more farmers to adopt the system

The study was conducted among 60 farmers from two blocks of Kalimpong district in West Bengal to analyze the marketing of large cardamom alongside various marketing channels involved during the marketing process using proportionate random sampling method. Garrett’s ranking technique was used to identify the major constraints faced during marketing of large cardamom. The study identified two major marketing channels; majority of the farmers sold their produce to the main wholesaler in the neighboring market, who further transports it to the retailer, selling it to the consumers. Marketing efficiency and percent producers share in consumer rupee was found to be high in case of channel I than channel II due to the presence of fewer intermediaries in channel I. Major marketing cost incurred by the producers was found to be higher during transportation and packing of large cardamom bags. On an average,e the price incurred by the producers was calculated to be Rs. 120/ bag. Price fluctuation of produce in the market was the major problem ranked by majority of the farmers. Information regarding market especially concerning the prevailing price rate should be circulated and immediate focus should be given to up skill the farmers regarding grading and quality standards assistance from the concerned line department(s)

Green revolution was capable of mitigating hunger and malnutrition but it had reportedly made a negative impact in terms of soil and water degradation. Diversification was also seen as one of the solutions to problems brought out by green revolution. As part of farm diversification, the Haryana government has initiated programmes like Mera Pani Meri Virasat (MPMV), Crop Cluster Development Programme (CCDP), Bhavantar Bharpayee Yojana (BBY) etc. This study highlights the impact of MPMV Scheme in a detailed way. It was undertaken in three agro ecological zones of the Indian state of Haryana. One district from each agro- ecological zone was chosen. From each district, 60 farmers were contacted. The study reveals that there is only limited acceptance of new diversification schemes among farmers as it is reflected in their area of adoption. Adequate amount of incentives and timely provision of the compensation amount are likely to further improve the utilization of these programmes among farmers

Dairying provides self-employment opportunities to rural women in India. However, due to the lack of unique approaches to meet the information needs of women dairy farmers, dairying was not found profitable. Mobile phones as one of the communication channels can address the information and knowledge gap of rural women farmers. In this regard, a study was carried out about the mobile utility pattern of women farmers in livestock-based Womeh Self-Help Groups, their accessibility and affordability to mobile phones. The mobile utility pattern indicated that most of the respondents own mobile or had access through their family members and were using mobile for more than five years. SMS (Short Message Service) was the mostly used feature and were in the habit of checking SMS daily. Voice SMS was preferred over text SMS and evening time was the most preferred time for receiving SMS. Accessibility to mobile phone was observed by all the rural women in the study area, however, only a few were aware that scientific information can be received through mobiles. Most of them felt that it was good to pay for mobile extension advisory services which may improve the productivity of their farms an encouraging phenomenon towards the utilisation of digital tools for extension and advisory services
