Report on a Questionnaire Survey of Students in the Elementary Course of General Japanese at Hokkaido University: Aimed at Revision of Course Design
No full text北海道大学一般日本語コースでは、北海道大学に所属する留学生（短期交換留学生、学部生、大学院生等）や教職員に日本語学習プログラムを提供しており、初級４レベル、中級３レベル、上級１レベルの８レベルで授業運営を行っている。また、北海道大学では、日本人学生と留学生が共に学ぶ「多文化交流科目」が開講されている。中級と上級においては、「理解」「表現」「やりとり」のモードで、他者とのコミュニケーション及び協働を実践する能力の育成を目標とした授業が実施されており、中級・上級の学習者が受講できる多文化交流科目も数多く開講されている。それに対し初級では、文法や語彙の積み上げを志向する授業が多く、初級の学習者を対象にした多文化交流科目は2024年度まで開講されていなかった。こうした状況を踏まえ、筆者らは初級コースの受講者にアンケート調査を実施し、初級コースの課題、学習者が求める授業像について明らかにするとともに、初級コースのコースデザインを見直す方向性について考察した。The General Japanese Language Course at Hokkaido Universityoffers a Japanese language program to international students (shorttermexchange students, undergraduate and graduate students,etc.) and faculty members affiliated with Hokkaido University. Theprogram offers eight levels of Japanese language classes, includingfour levels at the beginner level, three levels at the intermediate level,and one level at the advanced level. Hokkaido University also offers“Co-learning in Multicultural Classrooms” in which Japanese andinternational students discuss and learn together.In the intermediate and advanced classes, classes are designed tocultivate the ability to communicate and collaborate with others interms of“ comprehension,”“ expression,” and“ interaction.”Numerous“Co-learning in Multicultural Classrooms” are offered to intermediateand advanced level learners. In contrast, in the beginner level classes,many classes aimed at building up grammar and vocabulary, andthere were no “Co-learning in Multicultural Classrooms” offered forbeginner level learners until 2024. As part of the efforts to improvethis situation, we conducted a questionnaire survey of learners whohad taken the beginner course classes to clarify the issues in theexisting beginner course and the image of the classes that learnersare seeking. Based on the survey results, directions for revising thecourse design of the beginner course are discussed
