Effects of lip and eye color on the emotion categorization of facial expressions
This study examined whether people's ability to recognize facial expressions is affected by manipulating the color of their lips or eyes. Participants comprised 100 Chinese adolescents (mean age = 13.79 years, SD = 1.06). The stimuli consisted of happy, neutral, and sad facial expressions, which were manipulated to have different lip or eye colors. Participants reacted to the images by indicating their perceived emotion. Performance speed and accuracy were assessed during the experiment. Results indicated that for happy and neutral expressions, the use of color significantly reduced reaction times, while the accuracy remained unchanged. Conversely, for sad expressions, reaction time was not affected by color, but all color categories exhibited reduced accuracy. Traditional and social media usage associated with COVID-19 vaccine uptake in Sapporo, Japan
This study aimed to determine the relationship between specific information source usage and uptake of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine. We analyzed 3348 participants aged 20 to 65 years who were not diagnosed with COVID-19 in a case-control study in Sapporo, Japan. The most prevalent information source on COVID-19 was television (TV; 87.8%), followed by online news sites (74.3%), newspapers (38.7%), websites of public institutions (30.9%), and families (29.7%). Multivariate logistic regression showed that the adjusted odds ratios of incompletion of second vaccinations for users of TV and newspaper to gather COVID-19 information were 0.31 (95% confidence interval [CI] [0.21, 0.44]) and 0.32 (95% CI [0.20, 0.50]), respectively, whereas those for users of books, commercial video sites, Facebook, and "personal blog or bulletin board system" were 3.34 (95% CI [1.58, 7.06]), 2.22 (95% CI [1.44, 3.43]), 2.36 (95% CI [1.24, 4.48]), and 4.81 (95% CI [2.72, 8.48]), respectively. Effect of carboxylate additives on CaCO3 particle size by precipitation method using scallop shell
The effect of carboxylate on the particle size of CaCO3 derived from scallop shells was investigated. Shell was dissolved in HCl solution and used as a raw material for CaCO3 particles. As the carboxylate additives, tartrate, oxalate, phthalate, and citrate were employed. The average diameter of particles, Da, was found to be a function of the molar ratio of COO-/CO32-. In the case of adding tartrate and phthalate, Da was varied as having a local minimum value at the molar ratio of 1-5. In the case of adding oxalate and citrate, Da was varied as reaching the minimum value at the molar ratio of 1-2. These sizes were about 0.1-0.25 times smaller than those without adding (21 μm). The characterization of the particles was conducted by SEM images and X-ray diffraction patterns. Particles were found to have a crystal structure of calcite, however, in the case of tartrate and phthalate, calcium tartrate tetrahydrate and vaterite were found

NO FORMATION OF A NEW PHASE FOR A FREE BOUNDARY PROBLEM IN COMBUSTION THEORY
We consider a free boundary problem for the heat equation with a given non-negative external heat source. On the free boundary, we impose the zero Dirichlet condition and the fixed normal derivative so that heat escapes from the boundary. In various settings, we show that there exist no solutions when the initial temperature equals the fixed temperature no matter where the initial location of the free boundary is given provided that the external heat source is bounded from above. We also note that there is a chance to have a solution when the external temperature is unbounded as time tends to zero by giving a self-similar solution
