XR as a Cognitive Support Tool in Product Development : A Qualitative Study Exploring the Potential of XR to Address Cognitive and Collaborative Challenges

    No full text
This study investigates the potential of Extended Reality (XR) technologies, specifically Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) to support engineers in product development at Saab Surveillance. The aim is to explore how XR may help address specific challenges engineers at Saab Surveillance experience within product development. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven participants within different roles from two product teams, and a thematic analysis was used to identify recurring challenges and participants´ visions for XR support. The results reveal two overarching cognitive challenges in current product development: (1) difficulties in forming an accurate individual understanding of product structure, function and context, and (2) difficulties in achieving shared understanding and collaboration across roles. Participants envisioned XR as a promising tool to improve spatial reasoning, reduce reliance on physical prototypes and enhance shared understanding and collaboration through immersive design reviews and virtual collaboration. Findings supported with previous research and cognitive theories indicate that XR can function as a cognitive support tool in product development at Saab Surveillance. However, the findings also highlight conditions necessary for successful adoption, such as system integration, usability, and clearly demonstrated value. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the value of using XR in product development at Saab Surveillance by evidencing how XR can address real-world cognitive and collaborative challenges experienced by engineers. The study concludes that XR holds strong potential to improve clarity, collaboration, and efficiency in product development particularly in early design phases. These findings are especially relevant in the context of Saab Surveillance´s ongoing digital transformation efforts and can inform future strategies for integrating XR in engineering workflows.

How Children and Youths in Criminal Networks are Portrayed by Government Agencies : A Critical Examination of Reports by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention and the Swedish Police Authority

    No full text

Belimumab concentration measurements using a homologous anti-idiotype immunoassay

Monitoring belimumab concentrations in patients can be a valuable tool for assessing treatment response and for personalizing drug doses. Various assay formats may be used to measure concentrations of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies. A particularly useful format involves the use of anti-idiotype monoclonal antibodies, selected to be highly specific to the antibody of interest. Here, we describe the development of a specific, high-affinity anti-idiotype antibody to belimumab, and the application of this antibody in a homologous sandwich ELISA to measure belimumab concentrations.Funding Agencies|Swedish Rheumatism Association [R-969696]; King Gustaf V's 80-year Foundation [FAI-2020-0741]; Swedish Society of Medicine [SLS-974449]; Nyckelfonden [OLL-974804]; Professor Nanna Svartz Foundation [2021-00436]; Ulla and Roland Gustafsson Foundation; Region Stockholm [FoUI-955483]; Karolinska Institutet</p

Football player - Accounting for an Intangible Asset

    No full text
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate which factors influence Swedish football clubs accounting choices when acquiring players externally. Specifically, whether the player is capitalized as an intangible asset or expensed immediately. The study applies a quantitative approach based on a full sample of 32 clubs from the Swedish top divisions Allsvenskan and Superettan during the 2023 fiscal year. Using a Linear Probability Model (LPM), the analysis tests four financial variables: total revenue, net revenue, debt ratio, and the choice of an auditfirm (Big 4 or not). To ensure statistical robustness despite the limited sample size, HC3 robust standard errors are applied. The results show that only the use of a Big 4 auditor has a statistically significant and positive effect on the probability of capitalizing player acquisitions. The other variables exhibit no significant relationships. These findings are discussed using signaling theory and positive accounting theory, where the former proves particularly relevant: hiring a Big 4 auditor may act as a strong signal of financial transparency and professionalism to external stakeholders. The study concludes that accounting choices in football clubs are primarily influenced by institutional and signaling factors rather than financial characteristics. The findings contribute novel empirical insights to a relatively unexplored area within accounting and sports economics and suggest directions for further research into financial reporting in nonprofit and semi-professional organizations both nationally and internationally

We conducted an experiment to study how and why participants classified 24 imagesas either AI-generated or man-made, and which image types were hardest to classify correctly. The four image types were People, Animals, Landscapes and Abstract. 12 imageswere man-made, and 12 were AI-generated, and each image type category consisted ofthree images each. We used eye-tracking to see how the participants observed the images and gain insight on subconscious processes, and verbal motivations to study theirconscious decision-making processes. We found that the verbal motivations and the eyetracking data often gave different results, and that the different image types had differentaspects and parts that affected the participants’ decisions most. The hardest image typesof AI-generated images to classify correctly were Landscapes, followed by Abstract, thenAnimals, and lastly People. The hardest man-made image types to classify were People, then Landscapes, then Abstract, and lastly Animals

When Food Meets City in the Vertical Dimension : Exploring the Role of Urban Planning in Supporting Vertical Farming in Sweden

    No full text
In response to climate change, urbanization, and decreasing availability of arable land, vertical farming is emerging as a promising solution for more resilient and sustainable food systems. This thesis investigates the conditions shaping the implementation and integration of vertical farming in Swedish urban planning. Combining Multi-Level Perspective and Hype Theory, the study applies document analysis and semi-structured interviews with actors involved in the sector. The findings reveal that despite the technology’s potential, vertical farming remains marginal in planning processes due to weak institutional anchoring, policy fragmentation, and financial barriers. The sector also suffers from a lack of long-term strategies and formal regulatory frameworks. However, the study identifies several opportunities, including cross-sectoral collaboration, synergies with urban infrastructure, and increased involvement from planners and policymakers. A key insight is that vertical farming achieves greater legitimacy and practical impact when embedded into broader urban systems rather than being treated as an isolated innovation. The study concludes that for vertical farming to move beyond its current niche status, there is a need for integrated governance models, clearer planning guidelines, and structural support mechanisms that link food production with sustainable urban development. By highlighting both obstacles and possibilities, the thesis contributes to a more nuanced understanding of how planning systems can either enable or constrain the development of alternative food production methods in urban settings

Teaching Outside the Classroom : A Qualitative Study on Social Studies Education in Preschool Class and Early Primary School (Grades 1-3)

    No full text
The purpose of the study is to examine teachers’ reasoning regarding the use of place-based education outside the classroom in the social studies subjects in preschool class and grades 1–3. The focus is on how this form of teaching is implemented in practice, as well as the factors that influence its execution, where practicing teachers describe how and to what extent they make use of place-based education. The method used is qualitative, semi-structured interviews with six practicing primary school teachers from different geographical contexts. The empirical material was analyzed through thematic analysis based on a constructionist perspective. The analysis shows that teachers are generally positive towards place-based education and view it as a meaningful complement to classroom teaching. By conducting lessons in authentic environments, students’ engagement, motivation, and understanding increase. Historical sites, churches, and traffic environments are highlighted as valuable learning settings. At the same time, implementation is limited by structural factors such as staff shortages, financial constraints, logistics, and the school’s geographical location. The study ultimately demonstrates a clear potential for place-based education to strengthen the teaching of social studies by linking theory and practice. However, in order for this potential to be realized, organizational support, collegial collaboration, and a conscious didactic approach in which place is viewed as an active pedagogical resource are required

Bitcoin and Ethereum Classic in Times of Crisis : A Volatility Analysis

    No full text
This thesis analyzes the volatility behavior of two cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum Classic (ETC), across three phases surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic: pre-pandemic, duringpandemic, and post-pandemic. We assess differences in return volatility and downside risk using GARCH (1,1) models and a modified Value-at-Risk (VaR) approach based on the CornishFisher expansion. We find that BTC, as a large-cap asset, displays more structured volatility patterns and stabilizes more quickly, whereas ETC, a small-cap coin, exhibits more erratic and sentiment-driven volatility. These differences are most pronounced during crisis conditions, where BTC may act as a volatility transmitter and ETC as a volatility amplifier. The findings support the hypothesis that market capitalization plays a key role in determining both persistence and systemic transmission of volatility. Offering practical insights for investors, risk managers, and policymakers navigating crypto-related risks

The Rising Cost of Food : The Drivers of Food Inflation in Sweden Through a Structural VAR Analysis

    No full text
This study examines the relationship between macroeconomic factors and food inflation in Sweden, with a particular focus on how different shocks affect the producer and consumer price indices for food (PPI-L and CPI-L). Using a structural VAR-model, the effects of money supply, interest rates, exchange rates, energy shortages, and unemployment on food prices is studied, with the sample period 2000–2024, based on monthly data. The results show that exchange rate fluctuations have immediate effects on both PPI-L and CPI-L, while energy shortages affect producer prices in the longer term and subsequently consumer prices. Monetary policy variables have more limited effects, suggesting that traditional tools such as interest rate adjustments have low accuracy in this sector. The findings indicate that exchange rate changes and energy shortages are the primary drivers of food inflation, while monetary policy tools have limited impact. These insights have important implications for economic policy, as traditional rate hikes may be ineffective against cost driven inflation in the food sector. The study therefore suggests that inflation management could benefit from include measures for currency stability, energy investment, and strengthened food supply. By highlighting these connections, this thesis contributes to a deeper understanding of how food prices can be managed in practice, thereby reinforcing Swedish inflation policy in a globally uncertain time.

    No full text
This study investigates the usability and functionality of playlist management features within mobile music streaming platforms, focusing on Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud. While playlists are a core component of user interaction with streaming services, limited research has examined how users engage with these features from an interface design perspective. The research adopts a Research through Design (RtD) approach, wherein Design Thinking serves as a guiding method for the design process. By combining a pilot survey, precedent analysis, design proposal, and user evaluation, the study aims to explore the relationship between design and functionality in playlists. The pilot survey identified playlists as a highly valued feature, guiding the analysis of the three selected platforms. A precedent analysis was conducted to compare each platform’s playlist interface and identify usability challenges related to playlist management. Based on the analysis, a design proposal was developed to address the identified limitations. Key improvements included a clearer visual hierarchy, enhanced user control, and improved visibility of the system. A second survey was conducted to evaluate the proposed design in comparison to Spotify’s current interface. The findings indicate that enhanced functionality alone is insufficient to improve the user experience if not paired with an intuitive and visually appealing design. The study is limited in sample size, lowering the amount of collected data and reducing the generalizability of the results. Despite these limitations, this study contributes to the field of Human-Computer Interaction by offering insights into playlist design and highlighting the importance of balancing usability, functionality, and aesthetic appeal for user experience design.
