Shetland Channel. Cirrotheuthis
swim by flapping their lateral fins
hence their common name ‘Dumbo
Octopus’.
From our observations it seems
likely they feed on small benthic organisms
Filograna sp.
Colony-forming tube-dwelling
cosmopolitan species. Filograna is distributed
along the whole Norwegian
coastline
Neohela sp.
This burrow was formed by the
amphipod Neohela sp.
These burrows were a common
feature of the seabed at Dalsnuten
(and other deep sites including
Asterix and Edvarda). The origin
and function of the smaller burrows at the side are unknown
Chaceon mediterraneus
FeedingChaceon mediterraneus is identified based on the five anterolateral spines on the carapace.
It was attracted to bait deployed at the seabed.
Prior to deployment of the bait it was seen in quantitative video transects and recorded at density of 2.6 individuals per 100 m2
Anemone
Anemone of the Hormathiidae family exact species unknown but is thought to be one of the two more diverse families in the deep sea and many of the taxa are distinguished based on internal anatomy, such as how many pairs of mesenteries are complete or size of nematocyst
