The global hydrogen budget
This work is part of an international effort coordinated by the Global Carbon Project. We thank: Meinrat O. Andreae for calculating the GFAS burned biomass data for the period 2008-2017 (not used in the study), based on data provided by Johannes Kaiser and Imke Hüser; Johannes Kaiser for helping update H2 and VOC emissions from GFAS-burned biomass based on updated emission factors; Stephen Sitch for helping us access TRENDY authors and data; Bo Zheng for his suggestions on using CO emission data; Dieu Anh Tran for the help in gap-filling early H2 mixing ratio data; Richard G. Derwent for assistance with H2 data from the AGAGE network; Steven Smith for his advice on using the CEDS emission data; Katerina Sindelarova for help with biogenic VOC emission products; Wilfried Winiwarter for sharing the ECLIPSE V6b data; Anton S. Darmenov for providing us support and instructions on how to use QFED; Louisa Emmons and Christine Wiedinmyer for help using the FINN fire emission dataset; Peter Anthoni for help on LPJ-GUESS BNF data; John Patterson for sharing H2 concentration data reconstructed from firn air; and Xueying Yu for helping some data format conversions, and Saeed Karbin for useful insights in soil H2 uptake modeling. D.H. thanks Maureen Beaudor for her help with the ORCHIDEE model dataset. R.B.J. acknowledges support from the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, Stanford’s Global Methane Office, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Grant GBMF11519.
