No full textIl volume in cui si inserisce il contributo raccoglie le riflessioni sviluppate nell’ambito del Laboratorio di ricerca sull’azione pubblica “Sui Generis”. Da circa un decennio il Laboratorio promuove la ricerca e il dibattito su questioni concernenti le trasformazioni delle istituzioni pubbliche e dell’ordine normativo: sulle politiche pubbliche, sulle forme e tecnologie di governo, sull’argomentazione pubblica, sui luoghi e i modi della partecipazione sociale e politica, sulle innovazioni istituzionali e sociali, sulle basi informative delle decisioni, sugli spazi e sulla loro qualità sociale, guardando soprattutto alle riorganizzazioni del welfare e alla città. Nella riflessione sulla dimensione istituzionale la messa a fuoco del potenziale democratico del cambiamento istituzionale occupa un posto di primo piano e tra le tracce esplorate in quella direzione vi sono i processi di produzione di conoscenza su cui si basano le decisioni per l’azione pubblica. Il lavoro risulta uno dei terreni chiave sui quali portare questa prospettiva di analisi, a partire dal modo in cui il lavoro – sia esso svolto nell’ambito di organizzazioni di mercato o meno, formalmente regolato o svolto in ambito informale – rappresenta una dimensione fondamentale della publicness: i suoi contenuti, le condizioni attraverso cui si esercita, il tipo di architettura formale o informale che lo regola, il modo in cui esso interagisce con altre dimensioni dell’essere cittadino e così via, sono fattori costitutivi del modo in cui una collettività definisce ed organizza se stessa
The possible in the real: infrastructures of experience, cosmopolitanism from below and sociology
Full text linkThe paper focuses on the complex relationship between experience, knowledge and information as well as on the ways in which sociology can enhance efforts of emancipation concerning that relationship. This processual relationship, in our view, is particularly crucial as it configures the range of the possible embedded in the real, combining and conditioning in this way both the cognitive and normative dimension. This relationship is addressed as the result of the interplay between what we conceive in terms of infrastructures of experience, on the one side, and what Amartya Sen defines as the informational basis “for judgment and justice”. The paper aims at deepening the emancipatory potential of sociology as far as this relationship is concerned. Its reasoning is then structured in three main parts. First, it resumes some of the most significant features of the relationship between infrastructures of experience and informational basis. Second, it explores the meaning of these analytical (and epistemological) keys and the way they help us to grasp the contemporary transformations of the focused relationship. Finally, it tentatively outlines the way social research should interpret cosmopolitanism from below for contrasting the worst consequences of that transformation and for enlarging the possible embedded into the real

No full textReview of Lavinia Bifulco, Social Policy and Public Action (New York: Routledge, 2017) - This book has a very ambitious idea of the way a sociological analysis should be conducted and, jumping immediately to one of the conclusions of our review, it results to be a very important book as it is fully up to that ambition. Its ambitious nature lies in an approach that aims at avoiding the trap of assuming the definition of the research object already made by other agencies (policy makers, practitioners, administrations, social workers, etc.), which is often the limit of many sociological approaches to different matters and themes. Too often, in fact, such analyses remain hostage to the already-packed gaze with which different actors of the field analysed determine what is relevant and what is not, what is important and what can be overlooked. At the contrary, Lavinia Bifulco assumes that gaze itself – incorporated in concepts, definitions, technical devices, social and organizational practices –as a precious entry point for addressing what should always be the real object of any sociological analysis, independently from the particular field explored, that is the social. The social, the ways it is defined, produced and organized through the public action and the social policies, in different social spheres and experiences, is the real subject of this book

No full textThe theme of the relationship between work and safety has to be placed in a specific field of tension, which is actually confined within the boundaries of what has been defined as the paradigm of prevention. This field of tension is in turn subject to a metamorphosis that transforms its internal articulation and overall sense. In focusing on the change that has invested a fundamental factor of the public discourse on the relationship between work and safety, namely the “informational bases” that support it and feed it, we will try to understand the meaning and direction of such metamorphosis. The latter is of crucial importance, since it invests not only the labor market in the strict sense, but also a much more general ground, which has also become a fundamental factor in the reproduction of the logic of contemporary capitalism, that is to say the process of subjectivation

No full textRitratti è una collana di saggistica che si rivolge, per linguaggio e tematiche, sia a un pubblico accademico, sia a un pubblico generalista. Ritratti mira ad accogliere e proporre testi volti a esplorare le trasformazioni sociali, le dinamiche materiali, i processi culturali in atto, facendo leva sulle potenzialità teoriche e metodologiche sprigionate dalla pratica etnografica e dalle storie di vita, dall’esperienza empirica partecipante e dalle biografie individuali e collettive, dalla ricostruzione delle traiettorie soggettive e delle genealogie familiari.
L’obiettivo di Ritratti è pubblicare saggi capaci di riflettere e di restituire, attraverso un’interpretazione densa e mediante l’uso dell’immaginazione socio-antropologica, la complessità del “sociale” e la relazione tra strutture – strutturate e strutturanti – e gli orizzonti entro cui si muovono gli attori individuali.
I progetti editoriali che compongono Ritratti e i volumi che la collana ospita rientrano nell’ambito delle scienze sociali – a partire dalla sociologia e dall’antropologia, per arrivare alla geografia e alla psicologia sociale, passando per la storia, gli studi culturali e la memorialistica– e condividono, come fil rouge unificante, un taglio metodologico spiccatamente etnografico, accanto al quale trova spazio l’intimità delle storie di vita. Un ulteriore segno distintivo che accomuna le etno-biografie di Ritratti è l’approccio critico, adottato per leggere il mondo sociale, connettendo la mera contingenza dell’etnografia al più ampio respiro delle narrazioni in profondità.
