    Cracking potential of short- and long-term aged binder with various levels of ABR

    It is widely accepted that using reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and recycled asphalt shingles (RAS) could improve the sustainability of asphalt concrete (AC), in terms of cost savings and environmental factors. This should be only valid when short- and long-term pavement performance are not compromised. This thesis presents an experimental evaluation of the rheological properties of binders from various sources to investigate the effects of aging and increasing asphalt binder replacement (ABR) levels. In addition to the standard Superpave grading parameters, the additional rheological parameters for low-temperature cracking susceptibility and block and fatigue cracking were derived from various dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) and bending beam rheometer (BBR) tests. Binders from five AC designed with varying ABR percentages (from 0 to 60%) were recovered using the standard Rotovap test procedure. The base binder used in the AC design and binders recovered from RAP and RAS were also tested. In addition to standard aging protocols, base binders were subjected to a second pressure aging vessel (PAV), while one PAV was applied for the extracted binders. Almost all additional rheological parameters appeared to maintain consistent trends with aging and increasing ABR levels. The considered parameters are shown to be helpful in evaluating progression in the brittleness of binders with ABR and aging. Based on the outcome of the experimental program (binder level and mixture level), it was concluded that AC with ABR levels above 20 percent could suffer from short- and long-term cracking potential.     Residual vibration suppression of flexible spacecraft via optimal arbitrary time-delay filter combined with adaptive controller

    The residual vibration is especially harmful for attitude control accuracy and stability of flexible spacecraft in the presence of dynamic uncertainty. In order to solve this problem, a scheme combined Optimal Arbitrary Time-delay Filter (OATF) with adaptive output feedback controller is investigated. The OATF which convolves the desired reference input with a sequence of impulses and produces a vibration-free output. The robustness of such an algorithm with respect to model parametric uncertainties can be improved by the output feedback control, while for the feedback loop, the adaptive controller is employed to counteract the internal uncertainties and external disturbances. The proposed scheme which is verified can reduce the residual vibration and adapt the variations of the model parameter through numerical simulations. ? 2011 IEEE.EI

    [[abstract]]英文摘要】 胡承珙、馬瑞辰、陳奐三家《詩經》學詮詩釋例考察 To explore the Hermeneutics of the Shi-Jing interpreting by the Three Masters of Hu Cheng-Gong, Ma Ruei-Chen and Chen Uan 關鍵字: HU CHENG-GONG(胡承珙) Mao-shi-hou-jian MA RUI- CHEN(馬瑞辰) CHEN UAN(陳奐) Hermeneutics(注釋) The Masters of a specified time of Chen-Jia in the Ching Dynasty have the best achievements in the studying of the hermeneutics of words, implements, systems and so on. Although they had initiated the style from the masters of Dai Zhen and Duan Yu-Cai, and had selected some chapters and sentences to analyzing, but there was still to be short of writings which they could get together those fruitful results writings of the forefathers. Therefore the specified time between the Jia-Jing and Dao-Guang of the Ching Dynasty, it showed up the Hermeneutics of the Shi-Jing interpreting by the Three Masters of Hu Cheng-Gong, Ma Ruei-Chen and Chen Uan. They inherit the fruitful results of forefathers. Their achievements are excellent, and their influences are very deep and further. In additions, the friendship among them in discussing the scholarships, make their viewpoints about the Shi-Jing to be very similar. Regarding to those fields that were not well discussed and commented by forefathers, the Three Masters all had penetrating opinions and comments. It is the masterpieces of Hermeneutics of Shi-Jing that generated in the Ching Dynasty, and they are very important writings for the study of the Shi-Jing. Although their contributions to the study of the Shi-Jing are so huge and important, however, the current academic articles scarcely explore or achieve a comparative study among the Three Masters and their Hermeneutics. Thus, my study is going to compare the studies and writings of the Three Masters, hopefully this research project could make a judgement to their contributions to the literature and evaluate the achievements of the scholars of the Ching Dynasty in this field.

    Predication of Nonlinear Heat Transfer in a Convective-Radiative Fin With Temperature-Dependent Properties by the Collocation Spectral Method

    The applicability of the collocation spectral method (CSM) for solving nonlinear heat transfer problem is demonstrated in a convective-radiative fin with temperature-dependent properties. In this method, the fin temperature distribution is approximated by Lagrange interpolation polynomials at spectral collocation points. The differential form of the energy equation is transformed to a matrix form of algebraic equations. The computational convergence of the CSM approximately follows an exponential decaying law; and thus, it is a very simple and effective approach for a rapid assessment of nonlinear physical problems. The effects of temperature-dependent properties such as thermal conductivity, surface emissivity, heat transfer coefficient, convection-conduction parameter, and radiation-conduction parameter on the fin temperature distribution and efficiency are discussed.Peer reviewed

    Eafs Control Erythroid Cell Fate by Regulating c-myb Expression through Wnt Signaling

    ELL associated factor 1 and ELL associated factor 2 (EAF1/2 factors) are reported to play important roles in tumor suppression and embryogenesis. Our previous studies showed that eaf factors mediated effective convergence and extension (C&E) movements and modulated mesoderm and neural patterning by regulating both non-canonical and canonical Wnt signaling in the early embryonic process. In this study, through knockdown of both eaf1 and eaf2 in embryos, we found that differentiation of primary erythroid cells was blocked, but hematopoietic precursor cells maintained in eafs morphants. Co-injection of c-myb-MO rescued the erythroid differentiation in eafs morphants, as indicated by the restored expression of the erythroid-specific gene, beta e3 globin. In addition, low dosage of c-myb effectively blocked the beta e3 globin expression in embryos, and did not affect the expression of markers of hematopoietic progenitor cells and other mesoderm, which was similar to the phenotypes we observed in eafs morphants. We also revealed that knockdown Wnt signaling by transiently inducing dn-Tcf in embryos at the bud stage down-regulated the increased c-myb to normal level and also restored beta e3 globin expression in eafs morphants.     Low-Complexity Equalization of MIMO-OSDM

    Orthogonal signal-division multiplexing (OSDM) is an attractive alternative to conventional orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) due to its enhanced ability in peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction. Combining OSDM with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) signaling has the potential to achieve high spectral and power efficiency. However, a direct channel equalization in this case incurs a cubic complexity, which may be expensive for practical use. To solve the problem, low-complexity per-vector and block equalization algorithms of MIMO-OSDM are proposed in this paper for time-invariant and time-varying channels, respectively. By exploiting the channel matrix structures, these algorithms have only a linear complexity in the transformed domain.     Ore geology, fluid inclusions and four-stage hydrothermal mineralization of the Shangfanggou giant Mo-Fe deposit in Eastern Qinling, central China

    The Eastern Qinling, Central China, containing more than 20 Mesozoic porphyry +/- skarn systems, is the most important Mo province in the world. The Shangfanggou giant Mo deposit, Luanchuan County, Henan Province, is a porphyry-skam system hosted in a lithologic association comprising carbonaceous sandstone, shale, carbonate and chert within the Neoproterozoic Luanchuan Group. Mo ores are mainly altered porphyry, skam and hornfels, with minor altered gabbro. The mineralization process includes four stages, potassic alteration of the porphyry and skamization of dolomite marble in stage 1, stockworlcs of quartz + molybdenite +/- sulfide (stage 2), pyrite + quartz +/- sulfides (stage 3), and carbonate +/- quartz +/- fluorite (stage 4), respectively. Mo mineralization was generally associated with strong silicification and/or phyllic alteration. The fluid inclusions in minerals include three compositional types, i.e., CO2-bearing (C-type), aqueous (W-type) and daughter mineral-bearing (S-type). Minerals formed in stages I to 3 contain all the three types of Fls, but the stage 4 minerals only contain the W-type Fls. Oxides and Cu-phosphate are recognized as daughter minerals in S-type inclusions in minerals of stage 1, whereas the daughter sulfide and reducing gases such as CO, CH4, H2S and C2H6 can be observed in quartz of stages 2 and 3, suggesting that the ore-forming fluids were initially oxidizing and then evolved to reducing. Boiling fluid inclusion assemblages can be observed in minerals formed in stage 2 or earlier, but not in stage 3 or later. Fluid boiling caused CO2 escape, oxygen fugacity decrease and rapid precipitation of ore minerals, and was a key factor causing Mo-mineralization at Shangfanggou. Data and interpretations presented in this contribution show that the fluids forming the Shangfanggou Mo deposit evolved from CO2-rich, high-salinity hypothermal, to CO2-poor, low-salinity epithermal (low-T). The Mo mineralization at the Shangfanggou deposit mainly occurred at depth of 6.6-7.0 km, deeper than the majority of porphyry systems in volcanic arcs, which resulted from a CO2-rich magma-fluid system originating from partial melting of thickened lower crust The Shangfanggou mineral system developed during 158-134 Ma when the Yangtze-North China continental collision began to evolve from compression to extension.     Tuning crack pattern by phase separation in the drying of binary colloid-polymer suspension

    Drying the colloidal suspension leads to the versatile crack patterns, where the microstructure formed during the drying process determines crack patterns. Here, the polymer is introduced into a silica suspension to tune the crack arrangement in the drying deposit. Five dominated types of crack patterns are defined by varying the ratio of nanoparticles to polymer. Two phase separation processes are proposed to explain the spatial characteristics of the crack patterns: the depletion-induced phase separation of particles and polymer in their mixture; and the separation of water and particle (or polymer) clusters by the water drainage.
