    No full text
Describes a study, which investigates the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC ) use behavior of foreign postgraduate students at the University of Malaya Library. This involves their ability to use OPAC, their knowledge about OPAC, and the reasons for the effective use of OPAC. The results indicate that most of the students from developing countries possess various levels of OPAC use abilities. Most indicate that there are no OPAC facilities in their home countries, and if available, it is limited to university libraries. OPAC searches are mainly for title, subject, author/title keyword, and author. Title searches are the most frequently used. Students using the University of Malaya Library indicate that the OPAC is relatively easy to use but students are moderately successful in locating items. Students self-trained themselves when using the OPAC. Most did not receive any training or learnt it from the Library and for those who attended the training programme, the majority of them noted that it has been successful. Most of the students are generally unaware of other facilities that are available in the OPAC

A research contribution by ten or more authors has been termed as the work of mega-authorship. The study conducted with a sample of 1294 papers published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America during February - July 1996 shows that about 5% of the papers fall under the category of mega-authorship. Mega-authorship seems to picture better the international collaborative scenario in the field of scientific research. Attempts to identify the causes of mega-authorship and discuss its impact on author indexes, indexing services, citations, and the problem it may create in the identification of the principal contributor of a basic idea

The current trend of increasing capabilities in data generation and collection has resulted in an urgent need for data mining applications, also called knowledge discovery in databases. This paper identifies and examines the issues involved in extracting useful grains of knowledge from large amounts of data. It describes a framework to categorise data mining systems. The author also gives an overview of the issues pertaining to data pre processing, as well as various information gathering methodologies and techniques. The paper covers some popular tools such as classification, clustering, and generalisation. A summary of statistical and machine learning techniques used currently is also provided

This study carried out a bibliometric analysis of the literature on Nigella sativa (Habbat al-barakah or Black seed). The purpose was to study the periodic growth of literature, author patterns, topical focus, and geographic origin of literature on the subject. Twenty related databases and several online catalogues of libraries were searched to identify a final list of 530 citations. This data set was analyzed using various bibliographic characteristics. The findings show the increase in the volume of literature from 1971 onwards starting from one citation per year growing to 46 papers per year during the late 1990s. Most of the literature comes from Medical Sciences and Chemistry. A small core of authors contributed about one-third of the citations. Four-fifths of the citations are the result of collaborative work. About twofifths of the papers are published by only 36 journals. India and Egypt are the leading contributors to this literature. English is the dominant language

The presence of macroglossia, a tendency towards poor cooperation and the inability to adapt to compl~te dental prostheses due to motor and mental deficiencies makes the oral rehabilitation of Down Syndrome patients difficult. This article reports on the use of mini implant supported overdenture to rehabilitate a Down Syndrome patient who had difficulty adapting to his new mandibular complete denture. The patient\u27s ability to cooperate during treatment as well as the maintenance of an optimal oral hygiene practice enabled mini-implants to be inserted and maintained 20 months post insertion as evidenced by clinical and radiological findings. To the author\u27s knowledge, this is the first reporting of a successful mini implant supported overdenture in a Down Syndrome patient
