    Im Mittelpunkt des Projekts stand die Materialklasse der magnetischen Formgedächtnislegierungen (MSM, Magnetic Shape Memory). MSM-Legierungen kommen für vielfältige Einsatzzwecke in der Aktorik, Sensorik, Schwingungsdämpfung oder im sogenannten Energy Harvesting in Frage. Die Materialien sind prädestiniert für aktorische Einsatzzwecke, in denen schnelles Schalten, hohe Lebensdauer, kompakter Bauraum und geringes Gewicht sowie die magnetische Aktivierung von Bedeutung bzw. von Vorteil sind. Nach vorprojektlichem Stand der Technik waren funktionsfähige MSM-Materialien nicht-stöchiometrische NiMnGa-Legierungen mit einem Galliumanteil von rund 25%. Das Ziel des Projekts bestand darin, die weitere Etablierung der magnetischen Formgedächtnistechnologie gegen die längerfristige Verknappung des strategisch wichtigen Rohstoffs Gallium abzusichern. Dazu wurden verschiedene Ansätze zur Effizienzsteigerung bei der Herstellung und Nutzung dieser Materialien untersucht. Dies umfasste das Gallium-Recycling aus Materialabfällen und die Rückführung von Abfällen in den Schmelzprozess. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt des Vorhabens lag in der Erforschung neuer magnetischer Formgedächtnislegierungen mit geringerem Gallium-Anteil sowie in Arbeiten, die der Steigerung der aktorischen Materialeffizienz dienen. Als kumulierter Gesamteffekt aller Lösungsansätze (neue Legierungen, Recycling und Performance-Steigerung) wurde angestrebt, den Gallium-Einsatz bezogen auf die Materialperformance um mindestens 25% gegenüber dem Stand der Technik zu senken

    Reading Japanese Documents from the Marega Collection: An Introductory Manual with Selected Texts

    The volume, authored by Naohiro Ōta, and edited by Silvio Vita, Chiara Ghidini, and Luca Milasi, introduces the Mario Marega (1902-1978) collection of manuscripts at the Vatican Library. The complete collection comprises over 14,000 documents from Kyushu spanning the 17th-20th centuries recently cataloged and digitized and available through NIJL. The manual details a selection of documents specifically selected for the purpose of learning to read, transcribe, and translate komonjo. The book comprises an introduction, followed by, chapter 1, which includes four explanatory essays: “Documents as Material Objects,” “The Texts: Cursive Script and Language,” “The Historical Context of the Marega Documents,” and “Reference Tools and Suggested Readings.” The next two chapters cover “Reading Models” and “Texts for Practice.” Several appendices include information helpful to understanding komonjo, especially the documents related to Christianity in the Marega Collection. The author and editors compiled the volume mainly as a useful resource for students of sōrōbun and komonjo, and with the hope to provide up-to-date information about Japanese paleography and diplomatics of the Pre- and Early Modern period which will prove of interest for more advanced specialists, also

    Filling carbon nanotubes for nanobiotechnological applications

    With the great development in new filling methodologies for preparing endohedral carbon nanotubes, encapsulation strategies employing biomedically relevant molecular guests have emerged rapidly in recent years. All of these hybrid nanomaterials feature distinct properties and potential applications depending on both the chemical nature and spatial arrangement of the encapsulated molecular guests. In this focus article, we discuss the most significant examples in which carbon nanotube (CNTs) hybrids, filled with suitable molecular species, are used for biomedical applications. CNTs containing strongly emitting molecules hold great promises for diagnostic devices, whereas those filled with radioactive species and magnetically-active nanoparticles are attracting considerable attention for theranostic applications. Examples describing the use of the CNTs' tubular cavity as an active reservoir for the controlled release of drugs are also discussed.     Effect of electrospun fibers of polyhydroxybutyrate filled with different organoclays on morphology, biodegradation, and thermal stability of poly(ε-caprolattone)

    The properties of nanocomposites of poly(ε-caprolattone) (PCL) were studied, the pristine PCL was implemented with the introduction of electrospun fibers of polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), containing a cationic (Cloisite) or an anionic (Perkalite) clay. These multicomponent composites containing a very low amount of clay confined in fibers are different from usual nanocomposite materials containing clay dispersed in the polymer matrix, which are produced by solvent casting or melt extrusion. To analyze the influence of the different fillers on the final composite, a preliminary study on PHB cast films and fibers prepared from the same solution was carried out, and then a thorough analysis was accomplished of the behavior of these particular nanocomposites PCL/PHB fibers/clay to elucidate the effects of the filled electrospun fibers on the PCL matrix.     Molteplici sono i punti di vista che possono essere adottati per descrivere un territorio. In questo lavoro si è cercato di descrivere il territorio attraverso i valori che la popolazione attribuisce ai luoghi che lo compongono. L'analisi del processo di attribuzione di significato a tali luoghi è stata realizzata attraverso una serie di interviste ai residenti. L'indagine condotta ha individuato un quadro molto variegato che fa intravedere un senso di appartenenza molto forte al territorio della singola frazione di appartenenza
