Mapping and the Making of Imperial European Connectivity
Full text linkWhile cartography, historically, is a privileged instrument of thought, imagination, research and production of geography, within International Relations, maps and cartography have only begun to be studied. Jordan Branch says that mapping ‘shapes the conditions of possibility of how actors conceive space, territory, and political authority’ (2014, 41). As such, ‘maps, like theories, shape our understanding of the world by highlighting – and obscuring – particular spatial and social features’ (Branch 2014, 36). This approach focuses mainly on the governance effects of cartography. An alter- native position reconstructs instead how transformations in European cartog- raphy between the fifteenth and seventeenth century created new imaginaries of space – and the idea of territory itself (Strandsbjerg 2010; see also Elden 2013). This book continues on that tradition and focuses on the processes of production and translation of maps, and the epistemological analysis of the imaginaries of connectivity they depict, in an attempt to reveal their contribu- tion to the making of empir

Os objetivos específicos são: estudar o perfil e a qualidade dos gastos e investimentos do município; conhecer a sua prestação de contas e propor alternativas de melhorias para a gestão. A metodologia utilizada para a obtenção dos objetivos propostos foi uma análise descritiva por meio de uma pesquisa documental apresentando uma abordagem qualitativa. Os dados foram coletados a partir da consulta dos balanços patrimoniais do município dos últimos anos, publicado no Sistema de Informações do Tesouro Nacional no final de cada exercício. Para a obtenção dos resultados, foi feita
a análise das receitas e das despesas correntes (pessoal e encargos sociais, juros e encargos da dívida, outras despesas correntes), verificando os gastos com cada função da administração e o valor destinado aos investimentos e sua representação em relação às receitas. Os resultados alcançados demonstram que a gestão fiscal do município se encontra dentro da média do panorama nacional e que a administração
não sente dificuldades em gerir suas finanças e em adequá-las ao que preconiza a Lei de Responsabilidade Fiscal, principalmente no que diz respeito aos gastos com pessoal e aos investimentos, além de apresentar controle nos índices de arrecadação de receita própria
Introduction:The Politics of Translation in International Relations
No full textThe introduction to the volume situates the politics of translation in the theoretical and methodological landscape of International Relations (IR). It provides an outline of the conceptual framework deployed throughout the book and concludes with a road map to the volume. The chapter argues for an approach to translation as transformation, in contrast to approaches that emphasise an uncontested transfer or transplantation. This framework reconstructs the politics of translation. Translation makes international relations. The politics of translation is located in struggles for meaning, in rendering encounters and interactions tangible and legible. For instance, in processes of translation some actors are given voice and others silenced, and hierarchies are established and dismantled. The introductory chapter points to the relevance of translation as transformation for IR scholarship and in furthering theorization and empirical work

A sociedade artificial é baseada num mercado onde é apenas transaccionado um produto. O objectivo foi perceber qual seria a diferença de comportamento dos agentes, sendo estes muito ou pouco reactivos a variações de preço do produto. O resultado foi um conjunto de indicações sobre como calibrar a sociedade artificial de forma a maximizar a sua prosperidade.This thesis is the result of a work done to obtain the degree of Master in Information Systems Management. It is an experiment with an artificial society created with an agent based model. An artificial societies simulator was programmed in JAVA RTS and with it, experiments were designed and performed. The artificial society is based on a market with only one product. The objective was to understand what would be the diference between the behavior of the agents if they have high or low reaction to product price variation. The result was a set of guidelines about how to calibrate the artificial society maximizing its prosperity
