No full textLament constitutes a fundamental component of the elegy, and, not surprisingly, the reference to grief, caused by the pains of love and by labores that the lover has to endure to conquer the beloved woman, already appears in the programmatic elegy of the Propertian Monobiblos; from this moment on, the scenario that forms the background to the elegiac lament is characterized by recurring elements: the lonely nature, the hostility of the surrounding environment, the adversity of the sea, the absence of interlocutors, the fear and anxiety aroused from the treacherous scenarios of wars fought in unknown lands far from Rome; furthermore, through the landscape, Propertius defines with original features the different emotional gradations that the suffering of abandonment originates

No full textBy explicit admission of the author, the libretto of Händel’s Semele goes back to the story that Ovid had narrated in Book III of the Metamorphoses (vv. 253-315); in addition to the basic structure, the librettist inherits from Ovid the salient features of the protagonists and certain narrative constants, such as the jealousy of Juno; the disguise of the goddess as Semele’s confidant; the deception perpetrated against Jupiter; the tragic end of Semele; the birth of Bacchus. The study focuses on the classical persistences of the libretto - which are not limited to the Ovidian source, but also include the Plautus’s theater and the Homeric epic - and on the meaning of their re-contextualization in the play

Il tema dell’Aldilà compare con accenti isolati nella prima silloge (libri I-III). Il lettore del IV libro s’imbatte però in una Cinzia che compare come 'umbra' all’insonne Properzio e lo accusa non solo di averla subito rimpiazzata con un’altra donna. Una lettura puntuale del testo della IV,7 consente di capire quali siano le caratteristiche dell’umbra e soprattutto come funziona il mondo che ora ospita Cinzia
