    No full text
This volume primarily aims to analyze interdisciplinary perspectives of risk geography, subfield that studies interactions between extreme natural events and human societies. While in Italy there currently no established school of risk geography, key figures such as Roberto Almagià and Mario Baratta can be considered pioneers of such a sub-branch of geography, one that surmounts dualisms between physical and human geography. The genealogy of risk studies, first established by the American school and followed by contributions from the French school in the 1970s, trace the evolution of this field. Theoretical-methodological approaches and empirical research illustrate how risk geography is closely connected with the analysis of human behavior and social perceptions from which the factors of community resilience and vulnerability can emerge. The second part of the volume will feature didactic case studies concerning the analysis of experiences in the seismic risk perception. Grounded in the methods of the geographies of perception and risk, these studies were carried out in schools located in the Municipalities of Calabria, Basilicata (southern Italy) and on the Maltese islands

The re-configuration of subjectivity during the pandemic: a thematic analysis of some literary texts on the border between humanistic geography and philosophy

This article develops a reflection which considers geographical and philosophical discourse as contaminated interpretations, not as two separate and distinct areas. Humanistic geography is based on these assumptions: at its core is the analysis of the subjective value of the relationship between individuals and places. Starting from this framework, the article analyses the topos of the pandemic in The Scarlet Letter (1850) by Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Plague (1947) by Albert Camus, Love in the Time of Cholera (1985) by Gabriel García Márquez alongside contemporary testimonies of the COVID-19 pandemic. This comparative analysis allows to examine the ongoing relevance of this literary for a wider reflection on the relationship between subject and object, between human beings and the world, on historical time, the indefinite past, and on the concept of space. In pandemic periods, temporality appears not as a process, but as a cyclical succession of recurring phases, as it lacks the experience of a transformation directed towards a future end. So, what is subjectivity in a fleeting and fragile space like that of pandemic confinement? To answer this question, the article’s analysis draws on the philosophical work of De Martino and Benjamin, linking them to the current pandemic crisis. What becomes clear, as the article demonstrates is a relationship of mutual co-implication between geography and philosophy, based on a re-configuration of subjectivity and on the relationship between subject and object

This study explores the experiences of university students during the Covid-19 lockdown in Italy, using geospatial platforms such as Google My Maps to collect testimonies. The aim of the research was to investigate perceptions related to quarantine, physical distancing, and daily dynamics within their homes. The collected testimonies highlight activities carried out in the domestic space and interaction methods; they were analyzed to develop tailored educational models for teachers and students aimed at mapping the relationships between epidemiological and environmental disaster locations and human experiences, and to guide future stakeholders and governments in adopting pedagogical and psychological tools useful in emergencies
