Employee acculturation in tight vs. loose organizational cultures
Organizational Acculturation is a process through which new and existing employees may adapt and internalize the organizational culture. It is proposed that acculturation is impacted by the interaction between the individual and the environment. A questionnaire was compiled to measure how the Need for Organizational Identification - NOID (individual-level variable) and the perception of Tightness vs Looseness of the Organizational Culture (situational-level variable) may affect employees’ Organizational Acculturation. The study did not find person x environment interaction, but the main effects were found. These main effects showed, individuals with high NOID are more likely to exhibit an Integration and individuals in a loose organizational culture are more likely to exhibit a Separation strategy of Organizational Acculturation. The study contributes to existing body of literature by, highlighting the contextual differences between acculturation on societal and organizational levels, and by synthesizing organizational literature to propose an alternative approach to Organizational Acculturation.Tightness vs LoosenessNeed for Organizational Identification NOIDOrganizational Acculturationcontextual difference

Dramatizing Iraq and Afghanistan: Veteran Voices from the War on Terror
Veteran written and inspired drama exists in a unique place in theatrical history. Many of the earliest dramatic writers were veterans, and many of their plays dealt with social and political responses to war. Dramatizing war on theatrical stages gives the veteran an avenue of expression for his or her wartime experiences, and it opens a space for social and political dialogue about the nature of war and its effects on veterans. This thesis examines the social and political relevance of three plays that have emerged from veterans from the War on Terror. Previous scholarship has examined the dramatic contribution of other veteran groups. However, because only a short time period has elapsed between the beginning of the War on Terror and today, a gap in the field of significant scholarly contributions to plays from this generation of veterans exists. This thesis addresses this gap by analyzing three plays to emerge from the War on Terror. These plays are veteran written or veteran inspired and each comes from unique perspectives and experiences from the war. War on Terror veterans writing about their experiences find a unique place in the body of veteran inspired dramas. The experiences these dramatists present in their plays--LGBT service, gender discrimination, and military sexual trauma--should open up a dialogue about socially and politically relevant issues to this veteran cohort. The specific approaches to the texts vary from chapter to chapter, and are based in large part on the nature of the play the chapter examines.Theatr
Reading acts of narrative appropriation: four instances of fraudulent memoir
PhDThis thesis examines acts of narrative appropriation, the telling of purportedly‘authentic’ life stories by those for whom the stories are not theirs to tell. This
misuse or subversion of genre - the discipline of historical writing and the category
of autobiography - becomes a means for cultural, social and political dissimulation,
and the analysis focuses both on the act: the event, trespass, or ‘theft’ of another’s
life story, and on the cultural meaning that this event reveals. These narrative acts
are approached theoretically through discussions of what it means to be an author, a
reader, and through the consideration of literary and social genre, category and form.
In exploring identities at particular risk of appropriation, this thesis shows how
fraudulent appropriated narratives affect our reading of the world, and in turn
influence our perception of already marginalized social groups. My primary
examples include prostitution ‘narratives’, Native North American ‘memoir,’ and
fraudulent Holocaust survivor ‘testimony,’ with each text providing decoded
evidence of ‘genre-bending’ exhibiting a social and political intent. These works
seek to be read as authentic personal narratives, as autobiography, and that is how
they have been presented to the reader. However, they are imposters – fictional tales
desiring the elevated status of historical authenticity and willing to bend the rules
and contracts of genre to achieve their end. Here the appearance of authenticity is
achieved through the use of cultural and social ‘myth,’ or perceptions of cultural
identity, and as such its fraudulent construction is first and foremost a social act,
with a social and economic motivation. As this thesis concludes, these texts are
most successful when their own political and social ideologies echo and confirm that
of the readership; when their subjects, the fraudulent ‘I’ at the center of the text is
also a performative elaboration of cultural belief
The influences of basic physical properties of clayey silt and silty sand on its laboratory electrical resistivity value in loose and dense conditions
Non-destructive test which refers to electrical resistivity method is recently popular in engineering, environmental, archaeological and mining studies. Based on the previous studies, the results on electrical resistivity interpretation were often debated due to lack of clarification and evidences in quantitative perspective. Traditionally, most of the previous result interpretations were depending on qualitative point of view which is risky to produce unreliable outcomes. In order to minimise those problems, this study has performed a laboratory experiment on soil box electrical resistivity test which was supported by an additional basic physical properties of soil test like particle size distribution test (d), moisture content test (w), density test (ρbulk) and Atterberg limit test (LL, PL and PI). The test was performed to establish a series of electrical resistivity value (ERV) with different quantity of water content for clayey silt and silty sand in loose and dense condition. Apparently, the soil resistivity value was different under loose (L) and dense (C) conditions with moisture content and density variations (silty SAND = ERVLoose: 600 - 7300 Ωm & ERVDense: 490 - 7900 Ωm while Clayey SILT = ERVLoose: 13 - 7700 Ωm & ERVDense: 14 - 8400 Ωm) due to several factors. Moreover, correlation of moisture content (w) and density (ρbulk) due to the ERV was established as follows; Silty SAND: w(L) = 638.8ρ-0.418, w(D) = 1397.1ρ-0.574, ρBulk(L) = 2.6188e-6E-05ρ, ρBulk(D) = 4.099ρ-0.07 while Clayey SILT: w(L) = 109.98ρ-0.268, w(D) = 121.88ρ-0.363, ρBulk(L) = -0.111ln(ρ) + 1.7605, ρBulk(D) = 2.5991ρ-0.037 with determination coefficients, R2 that varied from 0.5643 – 0.8927. This study was successfully demonstrated that the consistency of ERV was greatly influenced by the variation of soil basic physical properties (d, w, ρBulk, LL, PL and PI). Finally, the reliability of the ERV result interpretation can be enhanced due to its ability to produce a meaningful outcome based on supported data from basic geotechnical properties
The technical study is focused on how the adaptation of the digital transformation, through automation and digitization, originates an effective management in the control processes in the maintenance, certification and inspection plans of drilling rig equipment, through the use of the Rig Management Tool. Digital tools are a fundamental piece to lead the change towards a more efficient and safe hydrocarbon industry, proposing an adaptation to the companies, as well as being able to anticipate the operational challenges that arise on a daily basis. In the traditional management of records of maintenance, certification and inspection plans, manual or semi-automated methods such as spreadsheets (dynamic Excel sheets), field notebooks and even loose note sheets, limit the ability of oil companies to maintain an effective and updated management of information, which increases the risks of operational failures, equipment failures, non-compliance with regulations that can generate fines and penalties by the control entities. It is there where the digital transformation becomes part of a necessary change for the adoption of innovative and systematic tools such as the Rig Management Tool, being this tool a program that allows real-time monitoring of operations, thus having control of all the elements that make up a drilling rig that require the attention of the case. This approach not only significantly reduces human errors, but also helps to improve decision making, induces a more reliable work culture and thus ensures greater control for compliance with the regulations governing the tools that make up a drilling rig.PregradoIngeniero(a) en Petróleo
Les musiques du mal dans Greek (1988) de Mark-Anthony Turnage
International audienceMark-Anthony Turner’s Greek was commissioned by German composer Hans Werner Henze for the first edition of the Munich Biennale. It is Turnage’s first opera. The libretto is based on Steven Berkoff’s homonymous play, which is itself a loose adaptation of Sophocles’s Oedipus the King. The action of Greek is set in the late 1970s or early 1980s in London. The city is decaying, and violence, unemployment and racism prevail. This evil background is metaphorically expressed by rough music characterised by the lack of melody lines that are easy to remember and by the importance of rhythmic elements over harmonic variety and the rich sound palette of the various instruments. In parallel to this there are moments when the music becomes richer and more complex. Does this mean that this music enventually embodies the triumph of good over evil or does it lead us to reflect upon the relationship between music and the expression of evil
